Well, since my MM run is currently on hold, I thought I might give this a shot.  It's pretty short, and we don't have a run of it yet, so it seems fairly reasonable.

Anyways, any input is certainly appreciated.  I'm looking for some tips for Chaos 2 and 6, but any other general tips would be nice, too.

Lastly, what would good times for the hunting stages be?

Top of the list is a video for all off the bosses Knux fights.  Not perfect (Its 11/44 in the rankings.) But more than a good start.

Videos for all of his levels too, though, obviously not going to be a huge help for SDA rules.  Times are there, for what use they will be.

Edit: Oh and SadisticMystic made a treasure hunting guide, which should help a bit.  Though again it is based on TSC rather than SDA.

You might want to contact him actually, (If he is still an active Sonic player, have not been around TSC for an age.) because he knows more about Knux hunting stages than the whole of Saga put together.

Edit2: Yeah, SadisticMystic is active, seems he recently submitted a run of one of Rouge's hunting levels to TSC

You'd want tsub 30 on almost every hunting stage, excepting maybe lost world.

This run hasn't been done cause it relies heavily on luck; it's like doing 5 straight dry lagoons.

You obviously can't do the optimal strategy for each level, as that would require roughly 216 level entries and restarts. What you can do, however, is memorize where all the piece 1, 2, and 3 locations are and find the best route to cover all the area.

I'll post a link of SadysticMystic's emerald layouts if I can get it from him; it would be really useful.

Good luck!

Thanks Paused.  I can't believe I missed that video.

Anyways, I think I have the bosses down.  I can consistently get them within 5 seconds of TSC's record, so I think that's pretty good.  Fighting gloves appear to break even on time, but longer Chaos 6 fight=more chances to go horribly wrong, so I think I'll get them.

I'll definitely have to talk to SM.  A list of all emerald locations would be extremely helpful.  Although I think 30 seconds might be a little much.  I can only consistently get around 1 min.  Still, we'll see how it goes after I get the locations, although I still don't see Sky Deck going under 30 seconds.

Oh, and one other thing.  How do I deal with the auto save feature?  Obviously I don't want to start a new file and re-unlock Knuckles after every failure, so I'll need a workaround for that.
Take out the memory card after loading the file, I guess.

List of emerald locations? poof
The numbers are the internal numbers used by the game to identify each location and probably aren't of much use to you. The starred pieces are the ones that are desired in game-time speedruns.

Lost World 30 is cake--most of the piece layouts there follow the same pattern, so while there may not be any layout that can break 14, I don't think there's a layout that can't be collected single-segment in 23 either. While Sky Deck is the fastest stage by game time, that's due to inherent segmentation advantages and the fact that the ship's tilt position can be set on one life and last to the next without losing time. In a single-segment that won't be possible, and you're guaranteed to have to tilt the ship (piece 1 doesn't exist except behind the garbage doors, so just do what you can. Note that blue on 1 radar from the start implies location 11; if you don't get that then glide left a short way and a blue radar will signify location 12. Either of those will let you tilt forward and know you'll get 1. If not, then you'll know it's location 10 and can tilt left without having to check on the far end of the ship.

Oh, and in Casinopolis there are only 90 layouts instead of 216, if that motivates you some tiny bit.

OK, I can get most hunting stages into the :30-:40 range pretty conistently.  sub-:30 is proving to be problematic, though, without very nice placement.  There's simply the problem of figuring out where the emeralds are.

Sky Deck, however, is really hit and miss.  I can get times as low as :30 with really good placement, but there's always the possibility of drawing a 3-tilt arrangement, which is pretty much death when it comes to time.  1:00 is about the average.

As for the bosses, I can get Chaos 2 in less than :24 almost every time, Chaos 4 less than 1:35, and Chaos 6 in less than :28.  Sonic shouldn't be a problem at all.  It's just follow him punch away, as far as I can tell.

The adventure field stuff is simple enough.  Navigating the ruins has a few tricks to it, and I've got a great method for getting the Fighting Gloves, but nothing too difficult.

So, do you guys think I'm ready to go, or should I get all the stages down below :30?

I would have thought that would be down to if the last few trims to time to get the 'sub 30' sec times are skill or luck based.

Well, the main problem is that while most emerald layouts can be collected in less than 30 seconds (Although Sky Deck has a lot that really can't), I don't know which layout I have beforehand, and thus have to check certain locations in some levels at the cost of time.  The other option is to use hint balls, but they take time, too.  *sigh* this is why I liked SA2's hunting levels.  One look at the monitor and you instantly know exactly where the emerald is.

I think I'll give the run a shot, and post the video here to see if my hunting stages are up to snuff.  BTW, I'm doing the run SS, if you didn't already know.

Lastly, while practicing, I got a 21:10 against Chaos 6.  Unless there's some quirks with the game timer I'm not aware of, that puts me a full second ahead of TSC's record.

Yes I guessed you were.  That is why if it were skill based, considering it has only been 24 hours since you started this, I would have said you would be able to get it to sub 30 with about an hours worth of tries at the rate you are going.

Still as its luck based as usual with this damn echidna,  I would just put the numbers into a calculator, figure your chances and weigh it against your sanity.

Which I imagine, knowing 'Mad Space' from having played it myself, is pretty high.

And yes story mode Boss times are a little qwirky IIRC.  I believe there is a topic about Chaos 6 with Big at TSC that brought it to light.  Adventure mode times for bosses can be lower than Time Trial times, which are required at TSC.

Might be connected to the whole 10 seconds added on to Sonic time in Adventure mode stages due to lack of a capsule to land on.

...Sorry to (possibly) raid on your parade.

Edit:  Course that raid would be with hosepipes, used in a way so it was like I was to rain on your parade.... Damn typos.

Hmm...a raid on a parade...that might be interesting.

But anyways, I sort of figured that, as it really didn't seem that fast to me.  And it's not like this game's timer isn't full of odd quirks anyways.
I tried doing a run of this for a long time till i gave up. Not because of getting bad runs, but because of always getting bad shard placements and ending up getting loads of sub 30s and then one stage with 1 or 2 minutes. My goal was sub 30 in all stages, and i didnt even manage to finish one run with that goal.

However you decide to tackle knuckles' story, good luck, you will really need it XD
The Great Farming Empire
Well, Since I finished with Gamma's story I decided to tackle Knuckle's story to round off the SADX page on SDA. So far, I have a PB of 15:23 and am aiming for sub-15 before I submit as the early game is easily improvable by ~20 seconds.

Wish me luck!
The Great Farming Empire
Finally cut the sub-15 with a 14:54. However, there are some mistakes that i'm not too happy with. So my final goal is sub-14:50. Man, this run is crazy! O_o

The Great Farming Empire
Got 14:38! There's about 10 seconds that can be saved, but between the ridiculous RNG I got and the execution, I think i'm gonna call it quits and submit.
