ok i expected to do some Sonic Adventure 2 battle, but i dont know what to run really in the game exactly, because there is a lot of things to take into consideration

but i tried thoses rules:
must be a Sonic or Shadow stage only
don't care about ranking obtained
must be the first mission of the stage
every bracelets and such are allowed (exept maybe thoses ones got with cheats, i dont know)

what about that? post your comments!

EDIT: link for the run of stage 1: http://tuigi.free.fr/SA2_Stage1_22842

i already tried 2 stages: city escape (2:28:42) and White jungle (2:07:25), i will post them here when i will have a server, this will not be too long
Thread title:
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
How about a strictly speed run? A kick ass single segment of

1) Hero story
2) Dark story
3) All Sonic/Shadow stages with all emblems on those stages only. complete.

Or just..submit a whole bunch of single level runs which Sonic Center already had. >>;
Also tenkiforecast
If you're doing Sonic and Shadow, mind as well do Mission 4... timed.
Those 2 times are pretty bad.
What Mr T said

they aren't god-awful, but I wouldn't consider em speedworthy either

speaking of sonic, summer's here so I'll probably attempt my sonic advance run again. Maybe I'll attemp an sa2b run just through story mode, since I'm "ok" at it

its basic times for the moment (I Put my time, not my score), and yeah, i will post them all in same time, if you agree with this idea

a single segment of hero and dark story isn't doable, because of rouge And Knukles, their stages are totally randomness...

you obviously haven't mastered the art of spindash

spindash is VERY important when it comes to time attacking, and it will make speedrunning this game hard, but your times will be much faster

Your run is pretty good....for an average player.

Coincidentally, I've been recently trying to get a recording through City Escape myself to put up at TSC when it gets back. I'm not expecting it to be a new record or anything, but I just wanted to post it for fun anyway

since this is more or less a perfect opportunity, I'm going to go record city escape right now. Hopefully, in an hour or two, I'll share with you the strat you should take, and you'll finally be able to see and understand why time attacking sonic games single segment are incredibly hard

EDIT: NM my bro's using the gamecube right now...maybe in the afternoon I'll have it up.

single segment hero and dark story = emeralds... = randomness, nolan dont want to see luck, he want to see skillz

and i made this video with nothing, i mean... i didn't demand what would be the nicest way or anything

NintenDan: 2005-06-24 05:23:40 pm
you said you wanted feeback/comments though, so that's exactly what I'm giving you

I know that's probably not your best run, but seeing what you do on the vid gives me a general idea of what your best run is like, and i'm just telling you it could be better

my best time in the past was 2:15 for city escape, and I had no idea how the American record could be 1:56, or the japanese record be 1:46!  Not until I learned how effective spindashing really was was I able to lower my time to about 2:01

ya, I know you said you're not in high demand for the fastest route or anything, but isn't that what speedruns are all about? finding and taking the fastest route rather then doing something anybody else can?

I finally got a vid, the time is 2:06. It's not the nicest thing either, but from the looks of it, you could use that strategy in your run to get a better time...that's all.

I have to upload the vid, so give this post ten minutes before I edit it with a link to the vid

Dude, I downloaded your video, and my comp doesn't recognize the format. =\ What codec do I need? etc.

ok, I've got the vid up

http://s89858904.onlinehome.us/Shadow_Wedge/Uploaded/City Escape low.wmv

I made it low quality so it's faster to download. Just watch it at a smaller size or something...

EDIT: there are supposed to be spaces in there, so dont click on the hyperlink. Copy and paste the full url into the address bar. sorry for the inconvenience Sad

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
i didn't play the game for a long time sorry
but what if you sooner change to the left side when the truck is following you?
Edit history:
NintenDan: 2005-06-24 06:09:52 pm
No big deal >_>

so erm, anyway

@wak

Basically, I'm guessing that that's what the japs did to get an incredibly low time. I more or less tried to do what they did as fast as possible, but it's loaded with mistakes

some of these tricks are really hard, but since it's the first level, you can always just restart over and over till you get a pretty decent run. Or, only incorporate some of the easier tricks.

Anyway, good luck with the run if you choose to continue with it (this is like the 5th person I've heard claiming that they would complete an SA2b run...lol :D)

aaa2, the truck part I goofed up on. If I took the left side, I'd go off the ramp. I'm not really sure if it is faster then rolling

Had I not gotten hit by the truck, I probably would of got a time of 2:02, but I goofed up.  and like I said, I'm not sure if rolling or the ramp is faster, but I think rolling is because the longer you roll down the hill, the more speed you pick up.

The japanese pretty much roll throughout the whole level, and that's probably how they got a time of sub 1:50 :O
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Watched the video NintenDan, not bad. x] Though, if perfectly timed spin dashes, you can cut WAY ahead of the truck causing the glith of it foward up on you, saving about 3 seconds. >>; Almost 10 total if you cna manage to do it 3 times for each turn. Otherwise, the run looked fine.

Lookin' foward to the run. Wink

i never thinked about holding B button -_-; i will try this as soon as i can

my video is without extension, i know, just have to open it with window media manually

EDIT: my run is good.. for not used the spin dash at all :\ but there is no more sa2 run without that now
Rock on, Earthbound. Rock on.

What?  There's no emerald collecting in this game.  What are you thinking of?  Sonic Heroes, maybe?  There's no special stages of any kind in the Adventure series, you only go super at the end against the Biolizard, and that hardly counts.
(user is banned)
knuckles and rouge are in the game only to take thoses pieces of emerald... and the places where they're hidden is random...

btw can i know what is the site to know what's the best time done on each stage???
He's talking about the Master Emerald shards for Knuckles' and rouge's stages.

And for that, why wouldn't it be alloud? There's a number of possible emerald spawns (a dozen, maybe? less?) and remembering where every/most of them are takes time. Besides, where the emeralds spawn are always...fair? I mean, every way they spawn, they spawn with not too much time difference.

Whoa, sonicam hasn't quit this run yet... I've been quite busy so I haven't had time for Sonic. Sad

Wak, go to www.soniccenter.org. Then read the message from Rolken and click where it tells you where a the time record archieve is. That link will direct you to the record times  for all the games (will many of the time are outdated though).

EDIT: Also, Ninty, that link you provided doesn't work. I copyed and pasted the link into my Address Bar but it still didn't work.

yeah... im still 30 secs (average) from the outdated world records... but i just dont know how they do...

i attempted Final Rush, world record: 2:26... my strat, maxed, could arrive at 2:55 :/

for the first stage, i'm no match for all thoses spin dashes that i still didn't mastered, but for thoses ones like Final rush, spin dash is not used all the time, so i think i can arrive at something good on this stage for the moment

btw, his link is:

if it's doesnt work, try later
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Okay, I remember a shortcut that cuts like at least a minute off. You may already know it.. =\ Now, I might be wrong, it's been a while since I played SA2 (that line is getting cliche)...

In that Sonic level in space..the one before FInal Rush, with the colored cubes toward the end..Cosmic Reactor..or whatever, anyway, in that level. As you pass the final checkpoint, do a spin dash as you hit the anti-gravity switch, spin dash towards the left, so your falling UP towards that giant block to the left, I forgot what color it was. There is a gate that you can land on when falling up near the cube. If all goes well, you skiped a big chunk, now you have 2 choices:

A) just continue foward and hit the other anti-gravity switch, go to the red block, blah blah, missle, blah blah, end.

B) Once near the anti grav switch, spin dash toward the ring, occasionally, the gravity for me went back to normal so I can get the ring.

NOTE: Once you do spin dash past that checkpoint and hit the grav-switch at the beginning of my explanation, the camera goes crazy and stays stuck like 5 miles away, L and R sometimes didnt't make it budge, so I had to play lucky and pray I could manage to get it unstuck without dying.

NOTE 2: AGAIN, my memory is fuzzy but give it a shot. Wink

trihex, he's talking about Final Rush, and you're talking about Crazy Gadget  Cheesy

Funny story though...when I went to go record city escape, I decided to record crazy gadget as well. I used to have a movie of the 1337 player Cybrax completing Crazy Gadget around 2:00 with all of his crazy shortcuts, but it disappeared somehow. I figured that since I was recording, I may as well try and do the shortcuts cybrax did. Note that obviously I'm nowhere near as good as cybrax, so techincally, the run I made suck. But I wasn't really going for a fastest time. I was showing more or less the shortcuts you could take in the level ( I probably missed a few small ones)

since you brought the shortcut up though, I'll post the video.

the file is about 5 mins long, so I made the quality really crappy, but you can still tell what's going on

If you can master those strats, then you can easily get sub 2:30. It's just really hard Sad

Hold on I'll edit this post in a sec to include the link >_>

EDIT: NM, can't get the damn video up. Whatever...it's no big deal anyway, but maybe I'll try again in the morning
So Wak, Sonicam, and NintenDan are all doing this run? I hope one of you finish. Even if it were still far from WR times, it would be good to see A Sonic run up.

i'm ON, of course, to (try to) achieve the best scores in a couple of stages (because there is stages like city escape where i'm no match for the moment... :S but i think my 3:09 of Final rush was not bad (i will improve it to sub 3 mins as soon as i can)

EDIT: new 3:05 could be 3:04 if i was not missing the big GOAL at the end -_-; video as son as i can, for somes comments
