Sonical!

I have been thinking for a very long time now to speedrun Sonic Advance as Knuckles, for several reasons:

- It is the only Sonic game that I am good enough at to make a run.
- Knuckles can complete the game faster than Sonic.
- Knuckles can take interesting shortcuts and alternative paths in several acts.

It would be an any% run and I am wondering how many people would be interested in watching such a run.

I hadn't played Sonic Advance for a long time but I have recorded this run of a single act (using settings that don't meet SDA requirements) so you can have an accurate idea of how would the full speedrun look like.

I'm interested in the fact Knuckles' run would be faster than Sonic. I'm all for it. Smiley

I have spent several hours trying to finish a decent run. Most of my runs finish either in Neo Green Hill Zone Act 1, Casino Paradise Zone Act 1 or Angel Island Zone Act 1. The optimal path for Angel Island Zone Act 1 involves abusing a glitch. It isn't easy, and you die if you don't do it properly. That is why Angel Island Zone Act 1 is by far the act which is giving me more trouble. However, I am decided to abuse said glitch in this run, because it is awesome. I don't care if I lose a life in the process. I made it to Final Zone in my best run, but died miserably in the third boss.

Knuckles can complete this game way faster than Sonic. However, I will have a hard time beating NintenDan's record as Sonic. His speedrun is that good. So good that many people thought that it was fake when it was published. If I remember correctly, it even won an award for that. o:

Update: I have been speedrunning this game non-stop for two days. After finishing several mediocre runs, I finally got a decent one. I list my times in the following table.

That was pretty entertaining! I'd love for you to try and redo this run since there are many mistimed jumps and mistimed hits during the boss battles. Good job. Smiley

I wanted to beat my run of Sonic Advance as Knuckles before it was one year old so I have been trying to improve it lately. Today I managed to better my run by almost 45 seconds. My new goal is finishing the game in less than 15 minutes. Here is a comparison between the published run and the one I got today:

By the way, the final time of my old run isn't correct because of Egg Rocket; both Quartz and whoever calculated the time for that stage afterwards (I guess it was Mike Uyama) got it wrong. <_< The correct time is 2:53:36 (not 2:53:30 as claimed), making the final time 16:00:34.

Sonic speedrunner

Zeupar and I have been TAing this game recently, and I asked him if he thought I was good enough to do a Single Segment Speed run with Tails and he said 'Go for it :P' so that's what I'm planning to do.

I think it'll be really good to have another character with an SS run and I think I'm decent enough at the game to pull off a relatively good one. This and This are some Time attack's of Individual Levels in the game. I'm working on the splits and still in the process of planning. Might stream it as well. Will anyone be interested in watching this?

In story mode, the clock pauses during the small cutscenes where the rocket shakes. However in TA mode, the clock continues during these cutscenes. So in essence, it's around the 2:40 mark

Started trying out tails single-segment, it's really fun! My time sucks as of now, but at least with angel island 1, I can probably beat the SDA time after some more practice.

As for egg rocket 1 skip... uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Another new glitch for tails strat, not entirely sure if it's SS worthy, but I tend to get it within 3 tries consistently, beats the previous IL record by 3 seconds:
