According to SDA (Speed Demos Archive)

"Timing note: Load times aren't counted in Metal Slug Anthology runs to make times comparable between versions."

I don't know whoever made this "rule" but Metal Slug X should be counted as RTA and not In-game time


Nowadays we have WiiVC version and Steam Version that should help with players who wanna try RTA since not everyone has a neogeo machine to play i guess.
Is unfair comparing ps2 version without loading times due speed increase in parts that is originally to lag in-game. Plus note fade screen in arcade/wii vc/pc versions are slower than ps2 because the loading time is the black screen... eh
deppending from ps2 revision and disc region in some parts the loading screen doesn't even appear.

By the way, You cant compare anthology with playstation 1 version, ps1 version has different mechanics,physics and sprites sizes from original version. (anthology has the same mechanics and physics as from Arcade version though)
Pin-point system for ps1 has infinite weapon, it shouldn't even be counted as real speedrun (only if a new category) and shouldn't be compared to real runs. Is kinda contradictory make it "comparable".

"Difficulty note: Normal and hard modes in the PlayStation versions of Metal Slug 1 and X are not allowed because the difficulties lie between easy and normal in Metal Slug Anthology."
The difficulty Actually the game physics and spawns changes a lot from PS1 to PS2. Not really possible comparing even using "same difficulty"

:/ that makes really unfair for speed running this game, and i really love the site. Because that I hope you guys could fix it, since this site influency in the world of speedrun community

Since the time table is its own category I think it should be fine staying as it is. I doubt anyone will go for it considering the ps1 slugs are ass.

As for RTA, yes I agree that the whole load time thing is very inconsistent. They differ even from console to console. When looking at a submitted run the time should be less important if its a different console. Quality should be priority cause there is always going to be lag differences. A good run is a good run.

As for difficulty, I for one think that with slug games level 4/arcade default should just be the setting of choice. The reason is the higher difficulties are not more challenging. The bosses just receive a huge health boost, in the end just making a longer speed run. This defeats the purpose of running it in my opinion. Level 4 is what most people run and it would keep runs consistent with each other. The ports don't exactly always say "level 4" or "mvs" but a runner should know what the difficulties are based on boss health and other things. Medium settings on steam match level 4. If someone wants to do slug runs on max difficulty then go ahead, but they aren't any more impressive from a difficulty standpoint and boring to watch from a speed run standpoint.

Hope to see a default difficulty run on here for X soon!

yeah, easy to normal difficulty doesn't make much difference the only annoying things in comparison to Easy is
-AI reaction(in normal Snipers melee reaction is a pain you need to crouch to manipulate AI or jump from last hitbox frames from the soldat to be able to use knife) <-Thats very important for runs because mission 3 and last mission.
-needing to use the knife twice in black ufos and three times on white ufo.
Then yeah if talking about difficulty, level 4(normal) and 1 (easy) should be the only categories for MSX.
Running Level-8, the run would end being a stupid slow-ass run. Since due obvious reasons is almost impossible to fight against insta-reactions and RNG where you can't manipulate at same time

Learning to Stream
Here I thought the main thing wrong with the page was that someone is speed running it Smiley [I am probably one of the few who enjoy the game for the aspect of pushing out the highest possible score as opposed to speed running it. One of the only games I feel that way mainly]
that's a needlessly commentary. Majority of old games are based on Hi-Score. If you prefer Hi-Score, I don't even think you should be in this site I guess Wink
