Hello all.

I just got my Elgato Game Capture HD today, and it passes all the tests on my modern consoles, however I need it to capture my SNES and all the TVs/monitors in my house do not accept 480i output through HDMI.  The video and audio show up in my software preview, but my monitor has no signal.

I'm not very good with cable tech, so I just wanted to ask before I bought something I didn't need.  Would an HDMI to RCA converter block such as this one using a male to male RCA cable remedy my problems?  Since a direct RCA connection from my SNES properly outputs both video and audio on the TV I use with it, I assume that this should be the answer I'm looking for?

I wouldn't go the HDMI to RCA way. The conversion from digital to analog probably isn't good for such a cheap device (and probably adds lag). Much easier going a route such as this:

Basically you use the old method of splitting the SNES to both the TV and Elgato like any other capture card that does not natively have a passthrough.

Ok, so if I understand this correctly, I have 3 RCAs.

2 male to male  RCAs are connected by female to female splitters and connect to TV and Elgato via its composite to AV cable.

The 3rd RCA cable is the SNES one which connects to the combined ends of the splitters, and goes to the SNES.

So an HDMI cable coming out of the output end of the Elgato is competely unnecessary.

Seems legit.  I'll go get some splitters instead, thank you.

Okay sweet.  Just ordered 3x splitters on Amazon.

Thanks again for the help.  Was completely oblivious that this process existed.  I was so hooked on thinking that you must use the HDMI out port.

Glad to see this thread.  I just ordered the Elgato so I could stream my HD consoles.  I had thought if it could replace my Dazzle for legacy consoles I'd do that.  I have some of the splitter stuff already to use my Dazzle and also play the game on the TV.  Smiley
