Rock on, Earthbound. Rock on.

I know exactly what you mean.  It's the little things that makes a game go from great to amazing.

3, (Kirby flies in)  2, (Mario pipe)  1,  Fight!

Awesome!

/signed.  Also, the character select screen showing you the actual characters instead of their portraits, and had them do a little signature pose when you selected them.  Those were all good things.  I hope they go back to using those, especially the intros, which makes a lot of sense when you consider that most fighting games have character/specific intros.  Heck, some have match-up specific intros!  Cheesy

*imagines the chaos that could erupt from four-way character specific intros interacting with one another in the seconds before a fight starts*  Grin

From what I gather this won't be a serious fighting game at all.

Is Super Smash Bros ever serious?

I think he meant the theme of the game. Previous games in the series featured players duking it out with paper fans and pokemon, so I don't see how a Nintendog is any less serious. Something tells me Gorash hasn't played SSB much before.

I'm really looking forward to the Single Player mode. Sakurai stated that the single player mode in SSBB will be much deeper  and robust than Melee's. I think that was the biggest thing lacking with the Smash Bros. Games.
I'll still be playing Multiplayer almost all the time, though. Especially with online play.
He's back!
I still haven't heard anything about how online play works

Unlike last time, this will almost certainly be the start of console going online?

(Plz don't reply with actually DC or X-box going online since both were never properly embraced)

I hope there will be online touraments and I'll probally start to realise I'm not as good as I thought. Although in Smash Bros Multiplayer I generally employ hit and run tactics while waiting for items to appear and comiting suicide just as I'm about to die in order to lose less points.

The Unreal Authority.
I know a lot of people who have Xbox live for Halo/Halo2. I wouldnt say it was never properly embraced.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
i played chu chu rocket online...

I actually liked Brinstar Depths and Great Bay

If you want to know the stages I don't like...
Ice Climbers (you basically avoid opponents until you can get in quick kills)
Donkey Kong waterfall, (there's always that retard who stays on the little island shooting people, plus I have to listen to a rap about DK) The other DK level isn't that great either
Yoshi's Story and Kirby's fountain stages (too small, both seem hard to grab onto the ledges)
F-Zero levels (could've been designed much better imo, to be more involved with the gampelay instead of frustrating it)
SMW and Whispy Woods stages (stupid)
SMB1 and SMB2 stages (incredibly stupid)
Onett (boring except for the cars)
Game and Watch (duh)

I can think of problems and quirks for every stage
Overall, they need bigger levels where certain types of characters don't get cheap advantages, and levels physics that don't hinder character movement as much.

Hell yes. Have you seen any serious matches? In any serious match, the items are all taken out, and some stages (Pretty much all moving ones, Game & Watch, ect) are taken off. And interaction doesn't make the stage better; it disturbs the fighting.
Even if they are fun.

Huge list of SSBM matches.

I've never understood why serious tournaments always disable items and only allow certain stages. This is SSBM... it's supposed to be crazy like that. If you want a serious fighting game without items and without changing stages, there's dozens of them out there.
Take This! Ultra Frisbee-Disk Attack!

So people could show off some sick skills in the game w/o the aid or assistance of weapons. The weapons in the game just make it easier to beat your opponents and stay alive longer, it's not really challenging that way, but it is a heck of a lot more challenging w/o the help of items, for me, I generally like the use of no weapons to test how good you are at Super Smash Bros.

Are they actual tourament matches?, since many of they fights are amaturist and make the same consistent mistakes e.g. hanging at the ledge when the oponent is doing a recovery jump and hardly any use of shield dodges. I reccon I could beat them, but I couldn't say for definite.

Hitaro: 2006-05-13 01:00:35 am
All of the items range from "insanely too usefull", like the Superstar, to "just in the way", like the Homerun Bat. None of the items take "skill", if you may, to chose wich one to use and to use them, it all depends on who is the fastest at getting a certain item. Heck; if items were aloud in serious matches, Mewtwo wouldn't be N.24 in the tier list (here's a hint; there're 25 characters in the game).

As for stages, some of them have areas that are WAY too advantageous, like Sanctuary (as I like to call it), the lower area of Hyrule Temple, where as long as you can recover well, you will NOT DIE unless you have around 300% damage, some of them are way too cramped like Flat Zone (there aren't even any freakin' walls!), and the moving ones force players to focus too much on the field.

I thought it was obvious ;/ No, that just sounds smug...

Hanging on the ledge while another player is trying to grab the ledge prevents the second player to use a ledge. If the second player does a third jump attack (usually up+B), the first player will climb on the ledge at the right time, wich will make him invincible, and the game will still keep ownership of the ledge to the first player until he has fully recovered.

Shield dodges? You have to be more specific. It's pretty hard to dodge shields.

If you mean air dodge, that leaves you open to a free attack unless you wavedash, if you mean sidestep dodge, it also leaves you open. Edit: And if that's not it, it's to take a chance at counter-attacking. Counter > Dodge.

And yes, most of them are tournemant matches, if not they're still pro level matches with casual setups (like Mario vs. Mario).

[rant]
But if it helps you beat your opponents more easiliy and helps you stay alive longer than without weapons, why wouldn't it do the same for your oppoenent?  Doesn't the use of and counterattack against items require some sort of skill?  I'll agree some items are broken and are simply a matter of being lucky enough to get one to fall near you (invisible thingy), but to ban all items would require individual arguments for each item.  [/rant]

So close to being sold on a wii.  Including Wario and Snake is going to make the decision so much harder.  Now if SSBB has Crono...
soteos: I'll agree with you that the Kirby Fountain was small. But ya gotta admit, it was one of the best looking stages the game had.
Kirby's fountain wasn't small. It's about as big as Battlefield, except I think it's bigger, the walls under it helps major "urded.""no im not""ZOMFG" moments and there's no annoying gravity alterance.

And Rael: get a translator.
Ahem...everyone, if I could have your attention please. I would like to take this moment to announce the obvious tournament that will happen between us all in the SSBB online feature. (come on admit it, you all wanna do this...or most of you anyway). I for one will now pick up SSBM again and begin training. So perpare yourselves...the day is comming. (probably sometime next year).

This could get ugly.

Oh, it's on!
Now if only I could practice on Melee... :-/
Just a tip;`fighting level 9 computers over and over again is not proper training. Better training is playing against at least half-decent human players. That's why I rarely play it anymore; the only half-decent human player that can play with me often is my own brother.
And he's a very good Falco user, by the way.

And up to now, I like these odds. Count me in.
King of hearts
Yeah, lvl 9s are just plain dumb.  I can't really practice much other than techniques.  Then again, I never really fully mastered the wave dash.  Count me in!
Well, there are some responses so far, thats good. But please keep in mind it probably won't happen for at least a year from now. (I heard the game is delayed until the start of 2007, but thats what I heard, anyone else who has better news or correct information please share.) But I think this will be fun.

Yeah, I could just see someone picking Purin and kicking everyones ass and embarassing us all. Grin
King of hearts
She's actually pretty good if you combo with her down B.  I guess it all depends on how well(or poorly) the character balance is made.  Melee wasn't too good because high level players basically showed how poor the balance was in real fights.  *sigh* and Mewtwo was one of my favorites too, one of the lowest tiers...  Maybe they'll over compensate and make him an uber tier.
Rock on, Earthbound. Rock on.
