I'm definitely considering a speed run of this game. I think it would be better to do new game, instead of a new game + run with the dragon board or something similarly overpowered. One of the biggest problems will just be the luck of not getting slammed with items once gaining the lead, especially the pans since red box weapons are deflectable. I have a couple of questions though, for anyone here familiar with this game. How do you get the quick start the CPUs do, since I seem to do the same thing but they always start in front. Then again, getting a good blue powerup by starting in last might be a good strategy. Also, how do you do multiple flips in the air? I've looked it up and tried it a lot but cannot figure out how it works. I know this one isn't necessary, but I think the run would look better if I did.
Thread title:
what mode are you planning on running. normal, expert, or normal to expert?

also about the bosses. since the snoman robot gains speed when your far in the lead. it migh be a quicker stratagy to learn how to throw bombs behind you. also managing shots in between bosses "freeze time". i'm not certian if you need to hit the boss with the bomb or if the exposion will do him in.

another couple things you may want to check are if holding an invisible powerup (for the pans) is faster than using items to get the fan and rocket.

what board are you thinking about using? speed is the fastest but in a game with attacks and sharp turns i'm wondering if balance is better.
I was thinking normal, because on expert all of the tracks are available from the start, and in that case I might as well use the Dragon Board.

I think staying behind the boss within shooting distance would be my best bet and just wait for stun to go away and hit straight up.

Once I get a lead, staying ahead and holding the invisibility is definitely the strategy, since as long as I don't get hit I'm gaining on them with exception of being ghosted, and there's nothing I can do about that.

I think I'm going to go with the combination of Linda and the balance board, so with combined board and character I am above average speed, but using a speed board the turns will just be too much.
The hardest parts are going to be the Snowman Boss, Ice Land, and Damien, just on avoiding bad luck.

Oh, and I figured out the tricks and head start, so I'll be good to go after some practice.

I completed my first full run without losing a race, and got a time of 1:06:24, but that had a couple resets on Damien and a reset on Shoot Cross. I also had some bad luck on my final Damien fight and on a couple other levels in particular. I need to work on my reflexes and timing on avoiding and reflecting hits, but I'm improving. I decided on the Trick Board actually, because the extra point of turn is more useful than the point of speed, and I can buy it faster than the Balance Board upgrades. I think while avoiding mistakes, dodging hits, and a little better luck a good goal for submission will be sub-1 hour, so that's what I'll be aiming for.
Edit: Got 1:02:50, no resets this time. However, the Snowman fight was disgusting and Wendy's House was bad and Haunted House was worse. I still had some problems with the reflex of dodging pans, but it's getting better.
too many gyros
Any plan on running this some more? I'de love to see a run of it, and I'm considering trying it out. I'll get my hands on a copy, it's one of my most nostalgic games from the early 2000's so it'll be fun too. I'll see if i can get near your 1:02 Smiley
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Dude, are you streaming this shit? Snowboard Kids was my fucking childhood! Smiley
Toufool I will race you it some time in SRL. And yes tri-hex, if I race I will stream it. If you happen to know how to get Dazzle audio in X-Split it would be awesome because my streams currently have no sound except maybe my external music.
too many gyros
I will stream it too. I have to play it a bit before I even try to race, I haven't played it in probably 7-8 years. I have a way to get audio but its weird, it involves like, opening pinnacle recorder, and from there having the audio playing through my speakers(without recording just the preview). And I make a screen camera on xsplit around the game on pinnacle preview, and since xsplit can record speakers, it gets my game audio too.(I'm wearing ear buds so it doesnt play loud on my speakers for the game audio to go through my regular microphone as well) It eats up pc usage though and its not the best video quality. But I would do that for sbk2 because the music is just too awesome not to hear Cheesy
I havent played in a year, you don't need to practice to race Tongue
I'll have to try that with Pinnacle, that seems like a technically easy loophole lol
Balls jerky
buy a line in cable for $5 and you have audio
Fish. Blub blub.
Why don't you set up an IL table or what it's called for all the tracks?
I dunno how to set that up dballin lol

GearStrike, it's because this was going to be a story mode run. An IL table would also work, but it isn't the same run as what I was thinking of.
Fish. Blub blub.
Alright, well I hope for the best in this run! any specific board you'll use in this?

You can also find 6 foot cables if you dig deep enough. The 3.5mm male to rca female seems to be far less common than male to male cables though.
Waiting hurts my soul...
If you're using FME, then you can choose your audio card with a mono mix, and that'll stream with mic, line-in, and wav (for Skype). Just keep in mind that you'll also be streaming out any audio that would normally come out your speakers, so you'll need to disable some inputs into Skype, and any videos you're watching on your computer that have audio will be streamed as well.

This is exactly what I use.
I dont know if this constitutes as a necro or not but I wanted to keep things consolidated. I just did a run of SBK2 from the start of sunny mountain all the way to the last hit of the damien robot with no dragon board or high tech board(sort of lame) and I have found noone that has done it faster than me(Prove me wrong guys!)      http://www.twitch.tv/harpooncannon/b/467665790        that is the video and this is also my twitch channel. happy runs guys!

Snowboard Assassin
I'm glad I searched for this. I just dug up my 64 and started playing a few classics, like Snowboard Kids 2. With Story mode, I could definitely get a run going.

While there aren't many glitches, I found a button code that you can use at the menu screen. If you enter it right, Damien will cackle, which means you'll have entered in the code. This should unlock almost everything. This can give you the Dragon Board, and I would use it for a majority of the courses. Its only really useful if you're playing a new file.

The code:
Z, B, Top C, Down on the control pad,
Left on the control stick, Right on the control stick,
Up on the control pad, R, Z, and A.

Character selection wise, I choose Slash for the all around ability.

If I had to list them out, I would use the following boards for each course: Dragon Board for all courses, besides the boss levels (except White Jungle). For the bosses, I'd use the Ninja Board so you're invisible the entire time. So you can avoid many hazards that bosses would throw at you. This won't save you from rocks or falling off edges of the track. It's slower though, but you should be able to keep up with Snowbot and Damien. The Dragon Board makes the boss with the Dinosaur a cake walk.  When the boss battle would activate after their preceding race, I'd skip the cutscene, change boards, and resume the boss battle course.

Sunny Mountain
Turtle Island
Jingle Town
Jingle Town (Night time; Boss)
Wendy's House
Linda's Castle
Crazy Jungle
Crazy Jungle (Night time; Boss)
Starlight Highway
Haunted House
Ice Land
Ice Land (Final Boss)

For a speed run, I could range each course taking about 3-4 minutes. The bosses, easily around 1 minute. For a race, I could find this incredible fun and entertaining. Cheesy

EDIT:

I just did a run tonight, and I nailed 46 minutes and 12 seconds.

That's when I used the Dragon Board and Ninja Board (for bosses). Not too bad. But I couldn't stand it when I get hit with a pan or get a ghost. That's when it hit me. I remembered I can turn off items during races. Then I won't worry about any pans or ghosts. Or rocks when the 2nd and 3rd lap come around.

Edit 2:
Now that I think about it, maybe it wouldn't be ideal to rely on the Dragon and Ninja Board, and start fresh from the beginning. It would be cheap to win every race guaranteed with the fastest board in the game. Not to mention the board can help with me getting one or two short cuts. At times, it's not very helpful to take other courses' short cuts (like in Crazy Jungle or Haunted House). It also causes me to go airborne, which can waste a lot of time. Unless I hit an invisible wall and it helps me return to the ground.

I'm gonna attempt a regular run, starting fresh, with the regular level 1 board. I'll hopefully get under an hour with this. And without that Dragon Board, or the High Tech Board, that race with the Dinosaur is going to be horrific.
Snowboard Assassin
Here's my first attempt at a run.

Sunny Mountain - Not a bad start. Could have done better just a little bit. Not much to say since this track is very basic.

Turtle Island - Did pretty well. Nailed the short cut all three laps. Have to be sure I don't hit any rocks in the water area. You can't see the floor, so anyone can plant a rock. Airborne I still debate on whether it helps me or not. But I do avoid the coral that appears on the track.

Jingle Town - Not a bad run. Figured out I can move my direction as soon as the race starts, so I can rocket board farther from the wall. Also made the jump near the cave, so I hit the tip of it, because it will take me back to the ground level, to stop my airborne maneuver. Same with the overhead part that follows another plain area of the level.

Boss 1 - Started off pretty rusty, but I recovered time when I saved my pan for last, and shot the Snowbot with my bombs backwards.

Wendy's House - Changed my angle at the start of the level, which is what I wanted. Became airborne after the grandfather clock obstacle, so the plate could bring me back down to the ground. Had to take note, not to do tricks on the cheese ramps. That will only take more time for me to get back on the ground. Took the middle path of the dark cave area.

Linda's Castle - Could have been a better race. Did a trick at the start, so I would land at the top of the open entrance, which would stop my airborne as well. But I learn it could also take me to a pit, so I need to be careful. I should have taken the short cut at the beginning, following the dining room. Made my way through the garden no problem, the sheep I avoided, and the rest is downhill.

Crazy Jungle - Still learning how to turn better at the beginning. The shortcut is much more tricky when using the Dragon Board. But I could hit myself to change my angle and jump on over the platforms if I miss the pole. Gotta be sure to avoid the alligators in the water, and the bombs that are spat by the giant ruin guy.

Boss 2 - A race with the dinosaur. With the Dragon Board, he's a cake walk. Made sure to grab the pan after going through the bridge, and used it immediately. After that, first place was a given, as long as back luck didn't strike. But the Dinosaur can't use items. The short cut always helps, but being in the air wasn't in my interest to do. Didn't need to grab the 3rd pan on the track, since I was already ahead. The ruin guy doesn't shoot bombs at you on this stage.

Starlight Highway - This one went well for the most part. This track would provide rocket jets for everyone if you touch the panels on the course. There's a shortcut at the beginning, passed Saturn, by going through an open slot. At the end, I made sure not to touch those rocks on the border of the track, because I can stay in the air for awhile when floating down.

Haunted House - This one could have gone a lot better than I wished. This track also has more short cuts. The first one can be tricky, but with the Dragon Board, I could jump over, like in Crazy Jungle. The second short cut requires speed, and the board I used was perfect. Missed it during the second lap, which made me go through the original track. A ghost can also help me get onto the ledge of the shortcut, even if it slows me down.

Ice Land - Final race before the last boss. Not a bad run, despite the fall I had at the end of the first or second lap. There's a short cut after the rolling snowballs, which I missed the first time.

Boss 3 - This boss went a lot better than I imagined. Oddly the 3rd bomb I shot at him didn't count. Stayed invisible for this battle so his attacks wouldn't affect me. But the stuff he drops on the track can mess you up. I also get 9 bombs instead of 3 when I pick that item up. After getting him 10 times, he recovers 3 hits and turns into a smaller bot. I got in front of him and nailed him 3 times with the backwards throw. Timer ends when the announcer says "YOU WIN!"

Final time was 45:08:99

Always could improve better though. But I say it was a solid run, granted the Dragon Board is legal.

So using the cheat to get the Dragon Board isn't allowed.  Sorry, pkmnfan.

That said, an SK2 run would be great, so I hope you stick with it using a vanilla save.  Or you could go for making an IL table which would allow you to use a save with everything in the game at your disposal.

Is the dragon board a cheat code only board? if not then i would say it is not cheating and it would just be a new game + run.

Haters gonna hate
I'm unfamiliar with the game, but if all the code does is unlock everything you could unlock in a normal file, then yes, this sounds like a NG+ kind of thing.  Someone more familiar with the game would need to chime in as to whether or not new file with code still has differences from a legit full file playthrough, if so we'd need specifics and to look at it closer.

When in doubt, ask a green name.  It saves confusion down the road.

You normally get the dragon board by beating the dragon on Expert mode.  Expert mode is unlocked after beating normal mode.  It's selectable from the save file if I recall, which means you can toggle between the two at will.

The code should only unlock all the characters and boards you could get by playing through the game normally.  For New Game it's right out, as I said.  SS NG+ is possible; I should have thought about that.  I don't see any problems using it in that context or for an IL table.
When looking at Special boards and all that jazz would they be allowed in an Expert Run of the game? Probably for an ideal normal mode run of this game is no Special boards and you start from new file. Go from there and play through the story. Buying the leveld up boards would be up to the player and such. As for 100% I think that would take a long time for you need to get all boards, characters, and stuff in Wendy's Internet.
