SNES rules!
This is by no means a great game, but if you are interested in it, I managed to beat the SDA time by 45 seconds, bringing the time down to 12:10 on BizHawk.

There is a shortcut in level 1-2 which saves a good 15 seconds, not too easy to pull off. The rest of the speedrun is: damage boosting through enemies as much as possible (which does not decrease your momentum at all) and making sure you get consistent 4-cycle Tom fights. The last level is by far the hardest to do fast; furthermore, you can die if you fall from too high, which requires you to do some safe landing on several platforms.

Sub-12 minutes is possible but really hard I think.

Nice jump at 1:46. I thought I knew what you were referring to. I saw it in the TAS (seems you are currently faster than the TAS on Youtube - Congrats!).

Had this game since I was a kid. Thought about doing some runs of it but I only have PAL at the moment and yeah I can imagine the final level being crazy hard. If I recall jumping onto some of those nails can be pretty tricky.

Hi Alowishus,

The final level is indeed hard to speedrun, because you need to take quite a lot of risks to ensure 4-cycle wins in each Tom fight. I know I can afford to take four hits, so I try to make the most of them. Though, in my run I was pretty nervous at this moment, so that final level was not very optimized... But anyway, I don't think I care enough to bother going for sub-12 in this game, but I would be very impressed if somebody pulled it off. Smiley

I also live in Europe and only have PAL equipment, that's why I'm using BizHawk to speedrun SNES games. It's not console, but it's as close as it gets in terms of SNES emulation.
Have fun running! Wink

Actually, BizHawk uses an old bsnes core, the core has received many updates not included in BizHawk. Try the latest version of Higan (which includes the latest version of bsnes). Can be gotten from www.byuu.org.

I wasn't aware of that, thanks for the info. I'll want to switch to Higan sometime then.
So my cart arrived. With two deaths my time sits at 15:59 SDA time after a quick run through. Gonna improve my route, already know places to improve! Only thing which may save time which you don't do in your run is on the Lego stages you can actually jump over the top of the screen where the blocks stack at the top. Don't know if its necessarily faster.

Nice find, I wasn't aware of that. I've just tested it, and I'm sure it should save a little bit of time in 3-2 (probably less than a second, but still interesting and less risky too).
Good luck improving your time! Smiley

WR on console was done by R3DninjaJosh a few days ago, finishing at 12:06.

And I just got 12:01 on BizHawk a few minutes ago Smiley

SUB 12!!!

A new route update made this 11:51 possible: I found a way to defeat the first Tom in 3 cycles. It saves roughly 4 seconds.

We're getting there. 11:48

11:43 might be possible with crazy precision. I'm really surprised I got sub-11:50, which I thought was impossible not so long ago.

Big update: 11:24!

My final and best run. I discovered two things which made sub-11:30 possible.

- Skipping the last green Lego in Lego-1: hop on the left edge of the first horizontally moving green Lego and try to not scroll the screen to the right until the very last moment. Then jump on the yellow Lego, run on it and jump forward as far as possible. If done correctly, you should land on the rocket and then get on the second Lego, skipping a cycle. This saves 5 seconds, but the jump from the yellow Lego is hard to do (the hitbox of the Lego is really deceitful).
- Getting 3-cycle wins on each of the 3 Toms in the last level: this is the most important timesaver (~12 seconds over the previous strat) but also the hardest to get right. You can actually get 4 hits in when Tom sticks his head out, allowing for a 3-cycle win if done right. Getting very close to the head makes timing the throws more consistent, but it also makes the level riskier. It requires quite some practice to get consistent 3-cycle fights.

My sum of best is 11:21, so this run is really close to perfect I believe. My only real mistake is in Lego-1, where I messed up some jumps and lost 1.5 seconds, give or take. Really happy with this PB! Smiley
Good thing I haven't looked at the old route video yet Tongue

Awesome run, Le Hulk!!

Thanks a lot PJ!

Good thing Alowishus, the new route is indeed much more efficient than the previous one, but it is also much more frustrating: the Lego-1 trick is very inconsistent and can be an instant run-killer.
Additionally, if you miss the 3-cycle kill on any of the three Toms in the final level, you are certain to lose ~3 seconds, so I'd suggest to practice that a lot. The new route on the last level can be consistent-ish with enough training.
Have fun running!
I will soon get my sub 11:30 to at least be on par with you again! For now since it didn't get accepted for GDQ, I think it might be time to run some Mickey Mouse!!

Good luck with that! Smiley
