Anything you can do I can do halfass
And so it begins. Replaying sufficiently to flesh out my map is giving me some hope that this game can be completed without profound loss of sanity. In under 3 hours? Probably. By very much? Uncertain. Within one set of batteries? Sadly. Although dearly as I'm coming to love my Lynx, recording may dictate switching to the Genesis version.
For anyone unfamiliar with the game, Slime World (or more fully, Todd's Adventures in Slime World, or even more fully, Todd's Adventures in Slime World: Winners Don't Use Drugs) is an exploration-platformer with 6 game modes each with its own sizeable map and gimmick.
The gimmick in Logic mode is your gun doesn't work, leaving you with only running, jumping, and items. It's also an inherently linear map where the primary objective is to complete every room. This makes for few decisions and easy route planning.
The map for Logic mode... I'll post the mostly-non-spoilers version now since it's done. I'm working on one annotated with item locations and enemy patterns, but if you have any interest in developing an affection for this game and its sadistic designers, I highly suggest playing it a few times yourself before looking at the cheatsheet of everything that will kill you.
For reference, on the Lynx screen, you can see an area roughly 6 blocks by 4 blocks. The map is ~33x200.
More details to come.
