Yeah, I think we are talking about the same trick. It's the one that skips most of the basement in the ancient Cistern. Coincidentally, I was trying to (unsuccessfully) climb up the same spot on my first playthrough.

In this video, the runner is obviously using the enemy's "barrier" to gain height. Is there anything else to this trick other than running up a wall with an enemy wedging you into the corner? It looks pretty easy if that's the case.

This video is the same basic trick, just performed in a different fashion. Thanks to tjp, I now see the mechanism that makes this trick possible. I didn't notice before, be there is a tiny raised section he is running off of to touch the adjacent wall at a slightly higher point. It gives just enough height to make the trick possible. Sadly, I think the very specific geometry of this room is the only thing that makes this trick work. I'm probably wrong but I can't imagine that there would be many more places in the game where this mechanic could be exploited.

As an aside, I'm finally done with my first playthrough, so I don't have to worry about spoilers anymore. Now, I can join in on discussions, and I look forward to tinkering with this game with the rest of the community.
Quote from Caveberry:
I saw a couple of videos showing Link scaling vertical walls a little higher than usual, but no one really said how it works, or how to do it. Anyone care to explain?

They were probably using hetoan2's run up walls further code

I was wondering, should only hero mode be only used as a speed run quest?
If you can get rid of all your treasure and bugs(if needed), your basically starting from scratch.
At the same time you can skip a lot of cut scenes which would make the run a lot more interesting to watch.
Also, it's more of a challenge since enemies do more damage and there's no lose hearts.

Unless if we find some super major sequence breaks, the regular mode will be quite boring to watch!

Well consider this for a moment: Your save has its own "cutscene skip" data, where it recognizes whether or not you've already watched a cutscene. It also applies to Normal mode, you could just save ASAP and then beat the game without saving, reset the game and you'll be able to skip all the cutscenes that you've already seen even though your file's at the beginning.
Unfortunately the beginning cutscene does count towards the gametime so it would be slower than hero mode anyways. But then there's the problem of gametime on hero mode counting your last playthrough as well, which is superlame :< (wondering if we should even bother with game time in that case)

But hero mode also lets you skip a couple things like learning about autojump, and death warping is faster whenever it's needed.

One thing I'd want to know about is the 100% definition.. There's obvious stuff like heart pieces and bottles and jump, but what about goddess cubes? Some of them lead to chests that have measly treasures in them so it's not like they really matter, and the game doesn't keep track as far as in a menu which cubes you've hit or not. You get the dowsing ability later but eh.
And then upgrading items, should it be required? I'm thinking no, but it wouldn't be hard to set up for Hero mode (you could just get all the required treasures and have them already on the file).
Everything else makes sense to get though..

Edit: Now that I'm thinking about it, there's also the matter of the satchels and stuff you can expand your ammo with.. should they be required? :/ like the 3 300+ wallet upgrades and stuff..
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
the wallets show up in the inventory and the other items can just be stored. the goddess cubes are marked in the map.

i think they should count towards 100%. the only things that don't count imo are the bugs and the other items dropped by enemies since they respawn indefinitely.
Hero Mode with bugs and treasures carried over sounds like standard New Game+ classification, whatever it would be used for.

The complication comes with the timer. It'd be nice if there were a way to override the timer and start it fresh while still incorporating Hero Mode into your new file. The insects and drops could all be sold off by someone with extreme patience at the last save before completing a normal file if they were determined to try to start a Hero Mode run but still quality for a fresh game, but again, the timer kind of shits all over things. Neverminding the fact that I'm not sure off the top of my head if you can actually sell every bug and drop type there is. I mean, you could always make an argument for not using them period in a 'fresh' Hero Mode playthrough but there are definitely upgrades worth having in the service of a speedrun, like giving the Beetle a speed boost.
Just means Hero Mode has to be manually timed rather than using the ingame timer.

Someone just accidentally glitched through the ground by running crooked up a wall.
Might be a useful technique for going through floors and/or walls.

That glitch seems somehow linked with the vine clipping glitch. Sadly, like other tricks, this seems to be completely dependent on the geometry within the level. We might find one or two uses, but it's not something we can rely on throughout a run.

Also, I guess I really don't see the problem with the Hero mode timer. Wouldn't you just take your end time and subtract the time that shows on the start up of your hero mode run? Sure you've got to do some simple math, but the game takes care of the rest.
here, have some boss strats

Haven't watched the rest, but the final boss strategy beats the current record on ZSR (sub-29 seconds compared to sub-31), so that's a good sign for the group as a whole.
The Boss Rush page on ZSR can sometimes get outdated because most of the updaters are lazy (including me). It's better to check the Boss Battles and Silent Realm Time Trials thread on the ZSR forums for more up-to-date times. In particular, a user name Jackimus has been getting crazy records recently; he keeps a nice playlist of all his best times here. He has faster times than sirhu923 on every fight except the Horde, Imprisoned 1, and Imprisoned 2.
Yeah, that's the one I had been following; I guess I just missed his most recent Demise strategy.

Ack, I accidentally discovered a treasure collecting speed trick, but can't do it again. So I'll post what happened.

I was in the cave in Skyloft with all those bats and slimes. A bat then dropped a claw next to a wall(it might of fell on a small ramp).
I then ran to the claw, my Link character ran up a wall as I collected it. There was no cutscene! I then went outside and collected another batclaw and it did the cutscene.
So the trick is this....

Run up a wall while collecting a treasure to skip the cutscene
Depending on how many times you use the beetle, this could come in handy as a faster beetle will save some time. So if you can collect the treasure faster then it will save some more time.

I wish I could do it again. Sad
You can skip all the treasure and bug cutscenes by simply jumping (Z + forward + A), which is much easier and less situational than running up a wall.

Wow, seriously? I got to try this.
There's a second game breaking glitch that's floating around that could prove quite useful.
Somehow some people triggered the volcano to erupt at the wrong times. One person did it right after the first dungeon. Another person did it when getting the pin wheel.
It's hard to tell if it's completely random, or if there's a certain trick.
They end up in a room with no way out, but maybe with a second glitch we can get most of the weapons early in the game.

Posted lots more glitch videos
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I also posted the Link to the save file that's supposed to give you a dead-end.
I scanned it with different scanners and found nothing.
So if anyone can try it out and record the results for future purposes.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8fqAdjbjUc - Second Game breaking glitch is useless!
It does not matter if you escape from the cage, every which way is a dead-end. So unless if we can get this area to load properly and find a way out, also get this glitch legit, there is no point in trying this glitch.

Besides Eldin mountain has anyone managed to fall through a floor by running up a wall?
Or any other areas where you managed to hop down a ladder and get through the floor besides Skyloft?
So far I have not been able to get past the loading zone like Kazoie, I wonder if it only works in that one area.
Seems that volcano thing was a mistake as a result of using codes, at least for the only person who confirmed it.

But there's something else at least as big to work with now.

Finally a major sequence break.
I'm curious to know what happens if you do the thunder dragon quest early, this game could be seriously shortened.

Well, you can get the seed early, but I don't think you can actually plant it to grow the fruit to restore the Thunder Dragon until you get the Master Sword and use the Gate of Time. Would almost certainly be faster to get the seed early so you can plant it on the first visit to Hylia's Realm, though, since you need two visits to the Gorge regardless.

There's also the matter of making the Thunder Dragon appear in the first place so you can give it to him, which will probably require the full minecart escort. Still, it seems like all this could be done right after the first visit to Hylia's Realm, so if you could start the Song of the Hero quest then, I wonder if it would set the trigger to start the other dragon quests immediately rather than waiting until you meet Levias, and if so maybe skip the fight with him or trigger it on the same visit as you get the last part of the song.

There is absolutely no way BiT could brick a Wii. Glitch away.

BTW, Parax is nearing the end of his any% test run on ZSR, if anyone wanted to check it out.
