I've heard of people getting spaceships before 0 AD. That would make for a fun run, right? Sorry, I'm new!

*edit* Actually, it's possible to launch around 2000 BC! I'd love to see a run like that.

I would be interested if someone did a few civilization runs.  I was thinking that total world domination and getting into space earliest would be good ones to start with.  Maybe whoever attempts a run can then expand to all technologies developed or the largest cities possible.

Also, how will these be recorded?  Instead of a replay I would like to see all the "action", so I guess a way of recording the game must be figured out.

I have no solution, but i admire the problem.
there already was some discussion about civilization, although i can't finde the topic right now, concluding that it would be dependant on extreme luck manipulation, i.e., having a map with your opponent directly beneath you, which you can simply conquer in a few rounds with a militia.

Getting a spaceship earliest possible could be interesting, that's rather a superplay than a speedrun, but who cares. Real time would be better than ingame time though, because when trying to get a spaceship in the first year possible, you'd build a gigantic civilization with dozens of cities to boost your economy and science, taking extremely long for one turn. I'm not sure about this, but i think it would turn out like this.

How about you show us how to do it?

Personally I would like to see the long version as long as it is les than 4 hours, just because I have spent so much time playing the game I would like to see how it would be played "perfectly".

difficulty: Chieftain (easiest)
civ: Russians
map: EARTH
# of civs: Three (lowest)

I think it involves switching to democracy early, lots of cities and lots of "we love president" days and all the specialists in the cities are scientists. There's also universities in every city making light bulbs. That's how the pro players got a spaceship around 1500 BC.

Maybe Civilization isn't such a good choice for a speedrun game.
Maybe something like Civ4 where when you choose world map your starting location and the map resources are fixed and then you could try for different victory methods, I think slaughtering all the computers would be the best to watch
