I don't know if this has been mention at all, but I was able to try the "lite" version. I had it record at 30 FPS (Don't think I had a choice with lite version)

I watched my FPS in game in UT2004. I was actually going up to around 40-50 FPS, while the program remained at 30.

I couldn't record sound, change the res, or get their logo off the video (because it's the lite version), but it seemed ok from what tiny bit I was able to do with it.. You can record as long as you want I think, but can't record too much else other then video(with the lite version)

From what I tried, Planetgamecam is a major resources hog when ran with high-end games that demand a lot from your hardware (F.E.A.R., Doom 3 and Quake 4 ran at awful rates on my PC with Gamecam, while I can maintain a very good 50-60 FPS on most of them with medium graphics without). It also supports very few games, and the in-game remote isn't all that grea, although it does its job, I just wish it had more functionality and wasn't so freakin' huge in-game. It also doesn't come with its own lossless codec, like Fraps, which means you have to go and get a codec on your own (Camtasia's lossless codec is probably your best bet on that one).

However, as a free alternative to Fraps for people who can't afford it and would prefer not resorting to "other" means, this program is great. The watermark and the lack of a built-in lossless codec are the only really annoying parts of recording with Gamecam if you overlook its few technical problems.

If you don't pay you can't record sound.

If you have Camtasia, or get the codec they use, you could probably use it for this.. I haven't taken a huge look at all the options, so I don't know what I can, and can't do quite yet.

I looked through their forums. It seems this program is more of a hassle than help  :-/

It just seems to have more options.. I haven't really taken the time to get to know it or anything, but I would like to Grin

Interesting, because I have never had a problem with Fraps, save the couple games it won't record. I have several problems with Camtasia, but nothing severe. I guess I can start being the Fraps help desk around here, just PM me.
