I had a though that rather than going into a forum which relates to the game and saying well done, great run etc. If possible, there should be a kind of guestbook thing at the bottom of every runs author comments in which people can give their applaud's on the run...
Thread title:

Registration-free comment systems in communities with a large percentage of young males tend to turn into crap quite fast.

If you really appreciate the run you can express it by travelling the long and stony road (1 click) to the forums.
Speed is the key.
The idea´s good, but I think that those guestbooks would quickly turn into general chat or sp4m room.
I give my AIM screen name and my forum screenname so they can IM and PM me respectively and I think it's enough, really.

I would really really like the idea of a guestbook... Sometime when I like a speedrun the guy doesn't leave any information and it's hard to contact him.

Not just that, I would like to see what people think of my run,
and most of the people are too lazt to check for any contact.

I dont think it would be a spam box but anyway, It's not my call.

Damn it, I missed the obvious train AGAIN! I thought that's what forums were for.
Well I thought they were more for discussion of run improvements, new runs, tricks etc. as apose to being a fan base for current runs...
Speed is the key.
Hmm, what about having a "guestbook" open for a week or two when a new run is up on the site, then close it after a while?

there is no ''Run apreciation'' section on this forum as far as I can see
${$uid.$user}{' usertext'}
If anything one could make a script open a topic for each published run and put a link on the run page.

But I have to agree with all the others, a comments system has a 100% chance of attracting morons. Most extreme case, read the comments on narutofan.com. And if you think gamers wouldn't produce such a crap, learn german and visit indiablo.de (no wait, you don't need german, 'cause it's certainly not german they write...)
Your almighty lordship
You can leave comments/reviews on archives.org.
Jack of all Trades
Leave comments in the original thread. If the runner made no thread, make one.

That was my original thought, sorry if I didn't state it correctly. I thought people left their positive comments on a run in the forum it was created under. But if there was a Guestbook, it should be for members with 25+ or 100+ posts so that people who have been here a short while can vote, so other people don't just sign up to spam it (although why would they)?

I like that idea Smiley

Nobody knows why trolls like spamming stuff, but it always happends.  :-/
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Clearly it's noticable that Radix hasn't bothered posting in here because he realizes that the guestbooks would get overrun with idiots simulating a GameFAQs forum, where everyone caps locks everything, no sense of control, and 100% idioticy.

I like this idea, I think it makes it more plausible.
Should they be comments applauding the runner, or plugging the run towards potential downloaders? Probably doesn't matter either way.

That idea is what bisqwit's uses.

I think you mean noobs. We know why trolls do stuff.

I don't think we're saved by no guestbooks. I think we're saved by the fact that this isn't GameFAQs and not everyone has heard of us, and by the culture of noob-bashing on gaming forums across the Internet. I mean, you don't even have to register to post here, how much easier could it be? This isn't gaming, but for a site that has amazingly good posts with guestbook format, try www.footballoutsiders.com. I can't imagine how awful football talk probably looks like on other message boards.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I'll bet the GameFAQsers could play a Hurt and Heal game on the guestbook!!

...Yeah maybe it is worthless.

Nah.  The latest thing is the "Seconds" game, where they take the game, assign characters, items, furniture, plumbing, whatever to every second in a minute and whatever second your time stamp says on your post is who you're gonna sleep with.

Unfortunately with most games, there's very little women in video games in the first place.  Look at Super Mario World.  You got Princess Peach and you got Wendy.  If you get Wendy, you're sure to go to hell anyways for sleeping with a child outside your species (Beastiality+Satutory Rape?), so you got Princess Peach who you will never get.  You'll most likely end up banging Torpedo Ted or a Para Koopa or a Yoshi or a Chuck or something, really...

....

I'm sure I had a point.

....

Nope.  I don't.

Im a deus ex fan, might be good to know, but there is really only one "run" that qualifies to your idea, and that is Alignons deusex run, to bad he didnt tape it, even though it would be horrifically long it would be fun to see. Check it out at http://www.forumplanet.com/planetdeusex/topic.asp?fid=2072&tid=1010410

That is the GOD of great runs Smiley
XXY
Or you know, we could make an official thread about run appreciation. If a run is finished, you can post your thoughts and congratulations in there. It would be much easier than some goofy guest book, and could be moderated so much easier than a guest book could, because it'd be in the forums. Which would basically mean Strangeness could slam anyone's ass who tried to say something overly negative, or is spamming the topic.

I can see many of my posts being deleted in that instance, but you get the idea! Smiley
