Which do you prefer? Short runs sound easier, but infact need just as much practice as a long run. Because its a shorter time to speed run it, any little mistake may ruin it, being it bumping into a wall or anything as minor as that, it has to be practically flawless.

As with a long run, you can afford little mistakes. With a 5 hour run your bound to occasionally do something wrong, but because its a long speed run it barely matters. You usually have more time to think when running these and may not even have to know the game inside and out.

Which do you prefer?

from a viewers perspective:

loooong runs, they help me fall asleep at night. Wink

actually I watch any runs on games I know, or that look interesting. What's interesting depends more on the game than on run length.

from a runners perspective:

I lack the patience to optimize anything longer than a couple of minutes.
...
It really depends on the game. If the game can be completed in 5 minutes, a 30-minute long speedrun for that game would suck. Smiley And so on...
I prefer long runs to watch.
Alot of short runs look really impressive, i'm not saying long runs don't. But the 10-20min ones can look really good. Mainly because most of them have no mistakes what-so-ever.

I both aspects short stuff.

Most long runs tend to be one shots, someone sets out to complete the game, includes what he thinks is worth the effort and the run stays "as is" for a long time. (Exceptions exist, you know who I'm thinking about.)

Short runs (or long runs segmented in short segmented, like HL) however include even crazier tactics, tend to be more often challenged, and boost the overall knowlegde of the game by focussing on minor optimisations. The threshold for this seems to be near 15 minutes.

2 hours is my limit... for speeding through runs...watching them i dont know... havent really... ive watched my own remake knife only invisible mode run a few times...

I have insane patience, but I put it in short speedruns. I think anyone that knows me knows I prefer doing missions on FPS games on N64 (I have none on SNES :p).
I like to perfect a speedrun as much as possible. the longer the speedrun, the much more unlikely it is it will ever become perfect or unbeatable (under current strats aka eg "if no new glitches/timesavers are found"). Therefor short speedruns are much better for the speedrunner that wants to get to his limit. And you can often do more "practice" runs on more than 1 mission in less time than doing a speedrun on a whole game, thus long speedrun.
MGS for PS1 forever.
As long as a speed run shows skill I'll watch it. The odd thing is that really really fast speedruns I get bored with. Even though the run Solstice was very good and fast, it bored me. I suppose it was because my eyes just couldn't keep up. At least, I think it was Solstice. All of the long runs I'll watch at least once.

I almoust only like to see speedrun movies in the game i have played a lot. It´s not funny to watch a run and you don´t know how difficult it is. And it´s pretty fun to see if you can beat it! Offcourse, maybee i could beat many of the runs but thats so much training Wink (i mean if i´m close the "speedrunners" clear time:)

And actually i don´t like perfect runs. I like to see mistakes. I don´t know why. One of my favorit runs is the Metroid run and it have many mistakes. But off course the game is so damm hard instead Grin

If the run is short or long?...I don´t care. But the longest run i have seen is just two hours. I´ts should be a VERY intresting game if i should sit in seven hours  Sad

I like short speed runs for short games.
But I also prefer long speed runs for the content they show. That mostly aplies to RPG's like ff3 and SMRPG but other games fall in the long speed run category as well.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I most watch Speeruns from games which I like. So I watch both short and long.
Short are great when you have not much time. So you can watch them often. Long Speedruns will I most watch only 1 time, because it takes to much time.

But I would like to see from some games too longer Speedruns. Like the Super Mario Bros Speedruns. The short ones get boring fast when watch to often. So I would like to see there too warpless runs which are much longer.
Personally, I prefer longer Speed Runs for games which often take many players days to complete. Since I'll be in bed with my cold all day tomorrow (again), I'm going to watch the entire Speed Runs for The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GC) and Paper Mario (N64) to keep myself amused.
