Here's a quick paint mockup of how to do the wrong warp. It's actually really simple once you know how to do it. It does rely on audio cues though.

I found a couple more warps, both to the final save point:
- Forest cave: similar to the first warp, but 4 drops (you should walk a couple steps on wood after the third one). There is a mean green slime on this screen, which can totally prevent you from hearing anything, take care Wink
- Coffee machine screen cave: similar again, but only 2 drops iirc, also not really helpful (at least for any%, since you would at least need elephant, monkey bullet and fire2 to get there...)

With this forest cave warp applied, i managed to get a new best time of 41:35 (41:55 IGT), the run was pretty bad, but hey, WR \o/

EDIT: made an updated route, this is not what i used for this run (i still got pike3), but should be a further improvement. The gem route in dungeon #1 is tentative, we'll see how much we need exactly - http://pastebin.com/dMWZ6tqZ
I just finished my first casual playthrough of the game, and I want to start speedrunning it. I'm looking through the thread and I'm seeing some interesting things. It looks like it should be simple enough to do the wrong warp, and I just need to get better at combat. I want to see what some of the glitchless times could end up being, too.
Any% without wrong warp is arounf 1:15? 1;10? Somewhere around there. That still uses zips though which is technically a glitch. No zips only adds under a couple minutes though.

100% can probably be gotten down to 1:50 or even less with really good luck and execution. I only know of two people including myself who have bothered with it though.

Somebody posting here reminded me that I wanted to make a post explaining various things. Since a lot of community deciding stuff has taken place off of the forums/informally.

So currently, I've ended up being the one behind the leader board for running this game. I've included listing for all of the categories that people have shown interest in (though nobody else has actually run no oob yet). There hasn't been any posting of official rules, mostly because the categories are pretty self explanatory. It might be helpful to write down the rules that we kind of fell into though, just to make sure that there's no confusion later. This also means that if I'm not sure of something or say something that people disagree with, we can talk about it.

All Runs:
  • Timing begins when you pick either your empty file (if you haven't cleared the game and don't have magic mode) or when you select which mode Shantae is in (normal or magic).
  • Timing ends the moment that Nega-Shantae starts exploding. (If the Nega-Shantae quick kill happens, the timing stops the moment that you lose control of Shantae after hitting Nega-Shantae, since quick kill makes Nega-Shantae not explode)
  • We do not currently use the in game timer, as it appears to be somewhat inaccurate (we're not sure why). We use external timing programs such as livesplit.
  • Runs which contain the Nega-Shantae quick kill are currently allowed (though most of the community that I'm aware of doesn't actually want this to be the case. We haven't actually had much of a discussion about it though, since quick kill is difficult for most people to do on purpose)
  • Magic mode Shantae runs are allowed and do not currently count as a separate category. (nobody does them because they are not proven to be faster)
  • Saving the game and restarting are allowed. (I know this is used to grind for gems in 100%)

Any%:
  • Beat the game as fast as possible.
  • All glitches allowed.
  • The credit sequence and end screens are not technically required to be in a video of this run, but are usually included anyway.
  • I made a tutorial for the current route of this category: here

No OoB:
  • Beat the game as fast as possible. You may not go out of bounds set by the game.
  • Any glitch which does not put you out of bounds (including zips which don't put you out of bounds) is allowed.
  • The credit sequence and end screens are not technically required to be in a video of this run, but are usually included anyway.

100%:
  • Beat the game as fast as possible. The end screen must show you collected 34/34 Special Items.
  • All glitches allowed.
  • The credit sequence and end screens are required to be in a video of this run, in order to show the 34/34.

As far as I know, there is little to no interest in a glitchless or low% category. Mostly because they don't really add anything interesting to gameplay.

Anything I said here is open for discussion of course, this is just what I've been going with as far as rules for runs.
I'm going to start practicing soon. I'm kinda hoping to at least hit the leaderboard for all 3 categories.

Also, I don't know how much that last boss glitch has been discussed recently, but looking at a recent thread on Steam (which one of the developers is active in), it appears to activate most frequently when getting stuck between the wall and nega-Shantae after her mermaid phase. I'm going to test that out when I start practicing.

I saw that the game was accepted for AGDQ 2015. I wish I could say for sure I was going, 'cause I'd definitely challenge you to a race, but there's too much stuff up in the air for me to say I was going.
