Hey Cape, if you dont mind my asking, how are you doing your new boost grabs?
There are only two ways I know of... and obviously, like Reik, I lose speed over time... I have height BG and distance BG... and for those of you wondering the difference... sliding from upC to B is height... sliding from B to upC is distance... also, pressing B then continuing with sliding from upC to B after will give you an easier to execute distance BG but you'll lose your speed faster (not as fast as height) if any of that makes sense... O_o;
Also Cape, if you can get all gold gems in sub 50... that will be a very impressive run.... this is classified as a 100% run is it not?
Edit: The level that sticks out the most is Migen Brawl... I think your time should be way lower... you do know that timing your jumps over the lava will avoid him spitting his fireballs? Consistant S grades with the gold gem should be easy once you get the hang of it (90% of the time I get sub 1:45 and I think 1:51 is S)

Yes, all 53 gems is a 100% run, which was my initial intent.
As for the new BGs, I will tell you if you agree to call them "Cape boost grabs"
"then begin to slide your thumb to the right slowly"
not exactly sure on what you mean?
Do you mean sliding your thumb from B to UpC Do you mean sliding your thumb from UpC to B the back to UpC then back to B (etc ) Do you mean sliding your thumb from UpC to B then after getting used to it switching to B to UpC? Or something else?
Sorry for all the questions... but I use a few different variations of the BG and I'm still not quite sure on how you do yours?
no offense cape but your instructional video wasn't that great. Maybe you should actually say what buttons you push. It's a little difficult to say exactly what buttons are being pushed just by looking at the video. Nice video but it revealed nothing.
After visiting Mr monkey man's site from what I understand it was Vigama and Veysey who discovered and improved boost grab so unless yours is a different method they may object to you naming it after yourself
Yeah... I don't understand how to do it either. At first I thought he meant slide your left thumb over to the right, but I've tried that and the only thing that happens is eventually you start doing forward grabs and lose major altitude. I can gain a little speed by falling and then BGing again, but it doesn't look like that's what he's doing in the video, because I lose too much height this way.
EDIT: WHOO! With all this talk of BGing, I went and tried Veysey's strat for Magma Rafts and blew my previous best time away. I'm still two seconds slow of Veysey's run... but damn completing that strat felt good. Hahaha.
You are BGing by holding up with your left hand, and pressing up C and B with your right hand. While doing the boost grabs with your right hand, slowly slide your left thumb to the side.
You should be pressing the upward piece of the right direction on the D pad, as well as depressing up. This allows you to boost up and grab up, but directionally influence yourself to the right.
Hope that helps, I will show Reik this weekend and he can help me explain it a bit better I hope >.>
It's what I originally thought it was, but here's the trick: You can't use the thumb sliding method. It's just too slow. I can only do it when I use my index and middle fingers so that there is no time gap between the boost and the grab.
EDIT: I'm definitely using this tech on Meet Calina, Clanpot Shake, Clance War, Clanball Lift, and Jump in the Day Of.
Is it faster than the normal BGs Reik? Or just easier? Also, are you still using your index and middle fingers?
Thanks for the more clear explaination Cape, I get it now Although I don't think I have EVER held Up exclusivly when BGing...
Not that I've had the chance to play today, but my thoughs on this tech is that its still going to be slightly slower(unlike the first 2-3 BG after a slide dash?), and its biggest benifit is that it maintains a consistant speed?
In my experience, CBGs are faster in terms of distance, but worse in terms of height. I can easily maintain (almost) slide jump speed for around 2-3 CBGs.
I'm still using my index and middle fingers for this trick. I can't do it any other way. :-/
Personally I think the sliding method is easier. You don't have to change hand positions. Maybe I just think that because the motion is very similar to a certain advanced SSBM technique that I know very well. xD
I agree... I need to use my two fingers as well, and sliding is easier... but if you want a similar effect, simply press B before starting to BG... you'll maintain your speed, but not gain much height... and using that method just described, I can get around 7.30 on meet marina by BGing from the 'tower' at the start O_o
I'd really like to break the 7 second mark for that level :-/
I guess I need more work with it or something... do you consistantly get that much speed off of your spring ball? Or was it just a nice run? Cause I still dont know what causes me to get that kind of speed sometime... tough i have an idea
As for Vigama... he made the time by getting a series of near perfect boost grabs and spent hours on that one level trying over and over to get those boost grabs.... but he is still unsure as to how to consistantly do it(last i checked anyways) he accomplished the same sort of thing with Sink or Float
I'm pretty sure that VirtualDub and the SDA capture FAQ process aren't going to work with my USB all-in-one thingy... so I'm going to attempt to record my run onto a VHS and send it to Nate. I already have a VCR with an SP setting and a VCR cleaner, so I just need some blank tapes and I'm ready to roll.
Hahaha... too bad Cape... I came on to pretty much post the exact same thing... i know how you feel
Reik, thats awesome, I can hardly wait ^_^ Too bad you can't do it yourself though... Im sure there is a way, maybe you should just ask around, let people know what you got?
As for Magma Rafts, I got a 12.85 run... but it wasnt using this strat... I think I can go sub 12 if I can get this to work (she should have grabbed that effin star!!!!! >:()

I'm really not certain what causes the spring to do that Reik, but if I was to guess, there is one frame where you start your up boost and the spring acts that way, you can achieve the same effect by jumping with A off of a vertical one (you go REALLY high) but the timing is absurd!
Not sure exactly what you mean Cape? Your boosts are fast, but in the end, the fastest method is to get the spring to fling you then have optomized boost grabs... unfortunatly, I guess my hands are too stuck in their ways... I tried for a while to get Capes BG to work, but in the end, I just decided to stick with the ol tried and true and just rub the shit outta my thumb >.<
GRRR I STILL cant believe she didnt grab the star!!! ugh!
