Who says they're getting a free pass? If their runs show no progress between now and then, they'll get cut.

I just find it unfair that they have a chance to show progress yet the other people I mentioned in my first post don't.

You're making the poor assumption that stuff on the cuts list is set in stone. It's entirely possible that if the runner shows improvement it might get reconsidered.

Okay, that's all I was asking for.

Guhbadoo: That's an understandable concern. First of all, I think you're slightly misinterpreting. The runners of the particular games on the cut list are welcome to come back to me and show improvement before the end of the month for a reconsideration. The games in question have been run at marathons before, so there is a standard that has been set. When you start getting into big gaps like 20-30 minutes, or 2x/3x the length of a good run, it's just not worth considering immediately.

So besides that, we'll cover the easy one first: if a game got past first cut, I just threw all runners who offered and looked to deal with who was actually running the game/if it would be a race/etc. closer to when the final list is being made. Obviously with the sheer number of submissions, I don't want to waste time checking that every runner of every game is legit if I know at least one in the bunch is. That's something that can be handled later. This explains Duke on Psychonauts.

A more important factor is the history that runners have at marathons; I trust Caleb Hart to pick up MMX2 a lot more than I'll trust a random I've never heard of to cut their time in half on Goof Troop. As more runners attend these events and show they will put in the practice to put on a good performance, that means there are more runners who can submit in the future without such harsh scrutiny. There really weren't that many who got cut in the first round for anything like this. Around 5, off the top of my head? Out of about 400 submissions.

It's funny hearing complaints about the Zelda Double Standard when both the Legend of Zelda and Zelda 2 were cut from AGDQ 2014.  It happens guys. It's disappointing but you move on.

Neither of those 2 games are as beloved as the Zelda's that came after them so its kind of a bad example.

Am I the only that thinks that it would be interesting to have one marathon without any of the huge games, like Super Metroid, Ocarina, etc?

No, but that's off topic

Ok, we should be caught up on submissions now.

I do know of one person whose submission isn't on either list.  Not going to speak for him, though, so I'll let him know to contact you.

the Pizza Pop runner haven't even completed a single run yet they got past the first cut.

I figured at some point someone would go after Pizza Pop. It's correct to say I have no streamed runs but it isn't correct to say I haven't completed a run (I had streamed practice, which I didn't highlight so twitch deleted it). I've been sick and switching to a full-time work schedule so my ability to stream has been incredibly low and I've also been getting the actual hardware together so I can properly practice on console instead of just through Bizhawk. Everything I've done has just been offline.

It isn't really fair to say that I wouldn't have the best time on it anyway though. I'm the only runner for the game. If it gets cut or whatever, I won't really say anything aside from saying it's nice to be considered at all. I'm as amazed as anyone else that it's gotten as far as it has. But just for you I'll stream some practice and attempts this weekend and make sure they're highlighted this time ^_^

Forgot to mention, donation incentives for Animal Crossing would be something like town name, character name, donation war for boy or girl maybe, and potentially a glitch demonstration to show off wrong warping.

Here's a video of the wrong warp if you're interested:

Ok, we should be caught up on submissions now. Remember, if you wanted to submit something and haven't yet, you have until midnight EST on the 14th (a little less than 3 days from now) to do so. If you had a serious submission (not 24 hours of Far Cry 3, thanks Slayer) that was not addressed yet for some reason, let me know.

The weekend after the deadline, we'll start talking about round 2 cuts. It's going to be hard since we'll have to be cutting about 200 hours of stuff that we legitimately think could fit well on the schedule already. Unfortunately, I won't be able to write out reasons for everything like in round 1.  The main reason to assume for most of those cuts is "it sucks we had to get close to 150 hours." We will try to listen to the community all the same though if there are any huge, legitimate issues. I would like the final-ish game list to be finished before the end of the month, so that's the time frame you should be looking for.

You're completely caught up on all submissions? Oh that's not good. I submitted about 3 different games and I don't see them on the list. This was a few days ago. Unless it takes time to update, should I resubmit them? I just tried to search my name or game on both the game list and intial cuts and i'm not showing up. I used Google Chrome and it said it was submitted.

ThatsFairZack: I think we might have skipped yours when your opening submission came off as a joke/troll. That being said, I'll make sure we look at the whole thing. But c'mon. This:

Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals (Ancient Cave run)
2:00:00
Randomized 99 floors with random rooms and random chests so it's never the same game twice and has no safety saves. There are strategies to survive easier but it's never guaranteed.
You're supposed to save the joke submission for the last submission!
Fucking Weeaboo
Ancient Cave would be interesting because you just don't know what to expect. That's half the fun.

Oh boy, all my friends and fellow Lufia runners are never going to let this down. They are going to laugh at me forever for this.

I didn't want to lie, I was trying to be honest about my run. I'm not entirely sure how familar people are with the run so I wanted to tell them you the truth. The entire run is about the fun and randomness (which can be fun most of the time as we often laugh and have races of this run. Sure it's not marathon safe but I still wanted to give it a shot seeing as Lufia II was submitted for one of the first times I have seen so i was interested in maybe a donation incentive or something. I don't think failing or losing the run is neccessarily a bad thing at GDQ's and the hype for the run is rather interesting. But this is exactly what I DIDN'T want to say in my submission since you said to leave out the whole "is it fun" thing." But it IS fun, regardless if I die or not. Since it's all about decision making and situational moments.

I wasn't kidding at all. I also have a few other submissions. If those were read i'm sure the idea of it being a "troll" submission would have been reconsidered. I have good times in all of the games I submitted. I've been running AC for over a year now if that helps the whole me being a troll thing. Man...people are going to laugh at me now Sad

dont stress it
aw, inMomentum got cut. I understand it isn't thematically the strongest game but it is also really short and I have commentary for almost everything because there is a lot to explain, relatively speaking. Would it be  reconsidered if the tiem was shorter? I'm aiming for about 23min RTA on the marathon itself (also it has an amazing soundtrack but that isn't a plus for fastgames probably)

oh well

This makes me a bit afraid since I feel more comfortable not streaming/recording practice...

Honestly, I'm just happy I might get the chance to see a Kingdom Hearts game at a GDQ again. To be honest, Chain of Memories is always going to have to fight the uphill battle of being a KH game (giving it a certain series bais and some main series competition) even though structurally it's completely different from the rest of the series. My support goes out to the KH community, and I know that the runs have improved greatly in the past few years, enough to make a really big splash. I'll never stop trying to get this in though, because there really isn't any other game like it.

drop my name out please.
Two things:
For strider 2, I'm almost 100% positive I can get commentary from a designer. I can also get atridwr 2014 as a giveaway for donations as well as a mini-statue.

Also, as far as death goes, I can easily dona deathless run. I'll actually be doing an SS ranking run which is basically going to be stages 1 and 4,in under 2 minutes game time and stage 5 in 2'47. Going to be pretty intense. Thanks for the consideration!

Er, to be blunt - if you're uncomfortable streaming practice, how will you feel streaming in front of thousands of viewers during SGDQ?

That depends entirely on the person who's running. Nobody's perfect and nerves are a thing. I don't think anyone would blame someone for showing nerves considering you're playing infront of a few hundred people live and then the stream viewers too. Don't get too worked up about it.
