Woot! Chameleon Twist made round 1! So pumped. Still even more pumped to see Tomba on the list along with Gex!

Just wanted to make a note: there are a lot of WayForward games that made it through the first round.  Any chance we'll see a WayForward block?

EDIT: Just saw CavemanDCJ's note for Shantae: Risky's Revenge.  I can offer up my 3DS XL for streaming it, as well as Shantae, Mighty Switch Force!, and Mighty Switch Force! 2.
A Wayforward block would be neat, especially if a dev could skype in. Maybe even virt himself?
While my game didnt make it I have to say, valid points are valid points. Cant wait too see what makes the final cut.
Totally Radical Awesome Game
@TonyOgbot Thanks for the offer. Should Risky's Revenge get in and there are time differences between the two, I might want to run whatever version ends up being faster.
Can I just pop my SD card into another 3DS and have my games carry over?

No, the OTHER Marvel!
Valid criticism for my Bug Island submission.  Maybe if I can make my "skip half the game" theory a reality I'll try again some other marathon.  Many thanks for considering Battle Clash and Ninjabread Man as well, though the estimate for the latter is VERY conservative.

Also very happy to see MadWorld made the first cut.  I tend to sing along to that game's soundtrack on my way to work most mornings. Cheesy

BlackCatGaming: There are still a lot of more well known, fast paced indie metroidvanias in the mix already, so I'm not sure your game would be deeply considered for the final cut anyway. Possibly in the future if these types of games get good reception. It's honestly something that hasn't really been tried out much (at all?) in GDQs, so can't overload the schedule with them.

quinntendopower: Is 2 loops necessary for the ending or something? It would be a lot easier to sneak the game into the schedule if it only needed 1 loop. Surely the humor would still be there.

rejectedlink: Your submission did show up, but it's also one of the newer ones (despite being 5 days old). Again, couldn't really get much done during the main work week for everyone, but you can check back if you don't see your submission up after the deadline!

Thx for clarifying this for me! I also have pbed recently on one of my games and I was wondering if I should wait and see if I made the first cut, before asking to change the estimate. Or should I just go ahead and ask to change it because, I can lower it by 10 minutes.
PS1 is immortal
Thanks for passing my Spyro 3 and Frogger submissions through the first round. Wow, the total hours at the bottom though! It's sad how many great games will have to be cut.

Also, just wanted to confirm the run pitches that name me off, I am definitely down for the idea of racing either Jumpyluff in Spyro 2 '14 talisman' or racing in a Spyro 1 any%, if either of those seem more suitable. HOWEVER, I wanted to express my disappointment and disagreement, and perhaps lots of other dis- words, of Spyro 1 120% not even making it through the first round. Bullet points incoming...

• First of all, every single person within the Spyro community would defer to ChrisLBC's 120%, assuming we even get one Spyro run at all. Yes, it's a smidgeon lengthier than I'd imagine a marathon organizer would like to extend to a Playstation 3D platformer, but it's a 100% category -- the shortest in fact among Spyro games, and I feel that has its own appeal with the audience, as most people played these games collecting all gems and what not.

• Chris has put countless hours into this run and currently holds the 2nd fastest time, creating a huge disparity in the leaderboards . (Nobody can touch those two guys.) Seriously, the work put into this run by this guy is up there with Sig/SM64, Zoast/SM, etc.

• Hate to create a pity case, but Chris' run was also rejected from AGDQ this year, and Canadian Games Done Respectfully has seemingly fallen apart as well. We really want to get this into a marathon.

• We can promise good and informed commentary throughout the whole run (I will practice. OneHand)

Please reconsider, a run + runner this good should at least make the first cut.

Obscure games ftw
I'm going to have to back up SSBMstuff on Chris's 120%.

I do have a slight concern with the Ape Escape run offered, however-the person who offered it is a total unknown in the community, and the time, though decent, isn't at what I would consider ready for running in a marathon.  SSBMstuff and I both consistently hit 51:xx runs or lower in races even with bad RNG, and are the only people under 50 minutes.  If it were to be run at SGDQ, having someone 7 minutes slower than someone else who's -right there- just seems kind of silly, and the difference in skill would be noticeable even to a casual viewer.  You can confirm the times mentioned on the same leaderboards.  I may be somewhat biased as a runner of the game myself, but I just don't think that's a skill level appropriate for showing the game in a marathon.  (before anyone points out skateman from AGDQ2013, he had a 57:15 going in.  This was at a time when a 51:xx was pretty much untouchable by anyone but SSBMstuff, who wasn't going.  Now the standards are much lower and the runs faster and more streamlined)

edit from later: I also feel that AE2 would be a better fit right now, having both not been run before and set to be run by the person with the current best time.
I also am going to back up SSBMstuff on Chris's 120%. I take my Spyro offering back because I would much rather see Chris do his run. He has put so much effort into it and I know that he would be a very great watch for a marathon.
Aww man, I missed the cut.  While I take umbrage at the statement that there is nothing in the way of speed tricks, it's close to the truth: there are 10 seconds saved through speed tricks, which is practically nothing.

I'm still coming, despite this.  Maybe I'll find a "real" game to run by AGDQ '15.

I also agree with SSBMStuff. I would love to attend SGDQ and do a Spyro the Dragon any% run/race. It is my dream to go to one of these one day. That being said I would gladly step down and remove my submission if it would mean Chris would be allowed to run 120% at SGDQ. I'd sadly probably not go to SGDQ myself as I can't easily justify going without a good reason like doing a run. Don't get me wrong if there is no way that you guys will allow Chris to go I would definitely like to keep my offer open but if you guys think 120% has any hope of making it into SGDQ and sacrificing my submission is what I need to do to make that happen I will make the sacrifice.
Wow! Excited to see that Pac-Man World 2 made it through the first cut. Pity so many exciting games are gonna have to be cut. Lots of 3D platformers are through the first cut, hopefully enough will still be there in the end to make a full block of them? I'm planning on learning the submarine levels blindfolded by SGDQ, so I'd probably do that for a donation incentive, or for swag for if it isn't considered interesting enough for a donation incentive.

My pb is from a slow disc that has recently all together refused to work. In that pb I actually had to take the disc in and out about 3 times, and among other issues I had with it I just prefer to say I have a slow disc (although I am in process of getting a new one). Regardless of that, I'm going to grind the shit out of that game once I get my new disc and a setup I can play it on at college (tvs are big and expensive).

I think there's some DRM involved with that, sadly.  I do have all of those games downloaded, though, if that's what you're worried about.
chamber of secrets got cut Sad ah well, i didnt really think it would get anywhere considering how many big cuts there will need to be.

My good friend, a musician himself, is actually acquainted with virt and I would be willing to ask him about this if any Wayforward games make the final cut.
Viking it up
That would be incredible, though I have no idea what I'd ask him - I'd probably just gush!
Treasure block and Platinum block would be really awesome.
I too would like to add my support for Chris' Spyro 1 120% run.  Chris has put in 40+ hour work weeks for a year optimising that game along with the other top Spyro runners and has made the run something spectacular to watch.  The movement that someone on Chris' level has rivals most any other speedrun and there are exciting tricks involved in the run that Ive seen countless people be in aww of when they first see them.  I would say nearly everyone in the Spyro community would like to see Chris' run in the marathon and Im sure there are quite a lot of other people from the other ps1 game communities that would as well.  I really hope you reconsider and give his run another chance.

what

There's trying to show support for a runner and then there's overexaggerating to the point of delirium.
Takahashi Meijin
Romscout - Looking at between 30-40 minutes for the first loop of Mr. Mosquito, My in game timers are under 30, but there are loading and cutscenes before and after levels that add up, but feature a lot of the humor. My estimate was for loop 1 100%, but there is no point going for 100% since it wouldn't change the outcome or really add anything to the charm of the game.

The Wonderful 101 - If there ends up being a platinum block, I'd reconsider 101. IMO it's their best game and could use a push in terms of awareness. But I get that a 4 hour game isn't something that's easy to get on the schedule. New Game+ features interesting things and tech that isn't possible on normal, and could take 30 minutes or more off the clock. Just a consideration but I respect the decision.
No pain, no gain
I wanted to give thanks to the selection committee. Even though Xena didn't make it past the first cut, I know you've been doing a lot of work, and--

Oh, wait, it has?

Weird.

With that said, the list is really looking pretty darn good. There seems to be a great mix of the popular with the ridiculous. I'd root more for The Wizard of Oz and Princess Tomato in Salad Kingdom, but those cuts definitely make sense. I'm especially excited about Big Rigs, and there isn't a doubt in my mind that it should be in the final list.

Thanks again for all the hard work and for most of this thread remaining civil.

that Metroidvania guy
Spyro 120%: As I stated in the rejection, one of the factors is that Spyro has been at two straight GDQs. If it wasn't for that, the run would've made it past first cut. Even if it is put past the first cut, it wouldn't make the final cut. For the Spyro games currently on the table, we'd probably either be looking at picking one or making a bid war for which one to race if the runners are up for it. We're not dedicating 2 hours to Spyro in its 3rd straight GDQ appearance when we already have nearly 200 hours to cut, sorry.

Wonderful 101: It's not going to be reconsidered. The reason for rejection is pretty simple.

It's actually not that big of an exaggeration, as surprising as it may sound.
That said, I respect the decision to cut it even if I personally feel that it'd be the strongest Spyro run offered, its length does work against it.
