I think Metal Wolf Chaos is an amazing game and it could be a huge hit for the marathon. I understand if it's being cut for time/obscurity reasons but I honestly don't think it's too obscure to not have a ton of fans and I think it's worth reconsidering cutting it.

Also M1's run of Cave Story was a big highlight of the marathon for me and I think it's really unwarranted to blame him for the PC setup issues that the entire marathon had just because he was the first one to be hit by it.

Metal Wolf Chaos will be the Halo 2 of SGDQ2014. Calling it now.

I would definitely understand the reason for Cave Story being rejected being that it was just in a marathon but honestly the PC setup has always seemed awful and from what I am reading here it does not seem like it is M1's fault at all.

As for Metal Wolf Chaos this is the game that people have only heard rumors about because for the longest time there was no full game videos of it on youtube.  So why not spread it to the world?  The speedrun is actually quite a good watch anyway and the strats are interesting.  The draw of the game anyway would be it is a Japanese made game that parodies the hell out of the USA with full english voice acting along with no localization of any kind outside of Japan (good luck finding any sort of longplays for this game btw) and I am sure people would enjoy it.  (also this would actually be a speedrun not a lets show off this game for fun thing like pac-man 2 shots fired)
I have trouble when I stream my PC from time to time.  Full screen is problematic.

Excuse me, but when I offered my run, I didn't understand what I was supposed to put for the summation of the run, or whatever it was. Would it be allowed to resubmit it or PM someone to have it changed to fit the criteria?

Sorry, I'm kinda new here S:
Not to sound lame but I have never heard of Metal Wolf Chaos until it was mentioned here and I have an aversion to Japanese games due to the fact 99% require you to be a member of some fandom or what have you to enjoy the game in its entirety but after seeing literally just the trailer for Metal Wolf Chaos I realy hope that it is reconsidered because honestly it looks like it would be hilarious and alot of fun to watch i think it being too obscure will actually help this games charm  and as for the length of time I personaly feel the length of any run does not matter what does matter is if the runner can make this game interesting if the runner can keep up with the commentary and keep it upbeat and keep the humor the game has flowing then it would not matter the length also the game looks fast paced enough to keep people interested while the small bits of downtime can be filled with the humor of this game
The problem with the length of the run is that we only have so many hours in the week, and a 3 hour game means that a number o other games will have to be cut in its stead. That's the main issue with time. Some games also have the issue where they drag with their length, but that's separate. I don't think anyone is making that argument against it.

Seconded. While the estimate is definitely a bit long, I feel the game has the potential to be enough of a hit to make up for it. The fact that it's e-notorious despite almost nobody having seen it played is a draw imo. It's worth getting past first cut anyway.
wtf did I just watch (metal wolf chaos).
Quote from Initial cut reason:
Your PB on [Goof Troop] of 27:05 is nearly 12 minutes behind cyghfer and blechy's record, which is too big of a gap to consider for such a short game currently.

This is a completely fair assessment of where our PB stands currently. However, the PB was obtained with about 12 hours of play put into the game, and with the months of time for practice between now and SGDQ, it's unlikely that our PB won't be pushed down to the realm of Blechy & Cyghfer's AGDQ2013 run (which was right around 20:00). If you're sticking with the decision to cut the game despite this, that's absolutely fine and I respect the decision, although I'd like to appeal the cut at this time.
If you don't currently have a time anywhere near the standards of a good time for the game I don't know why you're submitting it. You should put in the practice and then submit it if you're up to snuff, in my opinion.

This, save the marathon spots for people who have put in the time necessary to be good at their game. Get that PB down and apply for AGDQ.

I didn't have room to explain the individual categories in my submission of Mark of the Ninja, so here's a brief explanation:

New Game Seals&Scrolls%: This run is just short of 100%, skipping the points-gathering required for a full 100% run, but doing all the game's internal achievements ("Seals," three per level) and finding all the haikus ("Scrolls," again 3 per level).  This run is longer (My current WR is 1:31:xx, but with some recent optimization and new strats I should be able to get it down by another 5-10 min.  The estimate I provided is for this category), but shows more of the game, and gives me room to talk about all the crazy stuff this game has to offer.

New Game Any%: Similar to Raelcun's AGDQ run, but New Game instead of New Game+.  This shows significantly more of the game, because you can't start out with the blink ability.  As such, this run demonstrates the wide variety of ninja tools and techniques useful in speedrunning MotN.  This is a newer category, and is still being optimized.  I had the WR a few days ago, but as new strats are being developed, the time has dropped by almost 10 minutes.  By the time SGDQ rolls around, it should be just under 30 minutes, with a 40 minute estimate for safety.

New Game+ No-OoB: This is one of the most popular categories to run.  The absence of glitches (most notably, Wall kicks) leaves more of this run up to skill and less up to luck, and it shows really fun parts of the game which are ordinarily skipped in glitched runs.  WR for this one is again in the low 30s, so 40-50 minute estimate.

I posted all those categories, and then realized that the people deciding which games should be in might not know what they were.  Sorry about that.  XD

@Slayerofbabies...I've never heard of you but as far as I know, RyderC holds the world record for Fallout New Vegas Any% SS. If you are a runner for it, I would love to do a 3 way race, but you have zero posts in the actual forum for the game, so that's why I haven't heard of you or seen any of your runs.
A 3-way PC race may be asking for triple the technical issues that have plagued previous strong PC runs.

3 way PC race is not happening, for layout reasons if nothing else. There's a reason we only captured 2 of the Borderlands 2 screens.
that Metroidvania guy
Yashi: I think UA is the only one opposed to setting up 4 players races often, and he hasn't said anything about 3 (for console). I'd be ok with 3 person Bomberman Hero if your times were competitive.

Cave Story/m1: I heard different stories from various staff and non-staff regarding the issue, and while there were testaments that m1 didn't practice the run whatsoever or try testing it for very long beforehand, there were others (including a tech staff) who blamed it entirely on the setup. Because I was not personally in the room to witness anything, the game was reconsidered this morning with that issue being ignored (and having the people involved in the incident directly not being part of the decision).

We still came to the conclusion that Cave Story's inclusion in several marathons, including the most recent one, warrants it taking a break. It is not a speedgame that is so popular or hyped that it needs to be in every marathon, and there are a LOT of unique PC submissions that can be considered. Even though it would have been a safe first round pick, it was determined to not be worth re-adding because it would certainly not make the final cut.

David5K: It was raised to 1:40 because 1:27 appeared to come across as "hey, it sounds slightly better than 1:30!" rather than following the formula to a tee, which was actually the case. We can fix it later if needed.

i3axpace: Just like Countdown42 with Gimmick or Whatsoup with OoT, you will need to show improvement before you can appeal the cut. I encouraged people to take their time with submissions and make sure they were as solid as they could be, so I don't really want to give any sympathy or lenience toward someone who decided to rush it in on day 1 when they've barely played their game.

Metal Wolf Chaos: If the estimate stays as it is, there's definitely no way it can be in. It also couldn't be in without the cutscenes because that would not be entertaining enough. Even though it's probably my favorite game submitted so far, I don't really agree with allowing such a long game in for the cutscenes if it wouldn't stand as a good speedgame on its own. Also, I recall it having a mixed reception at Chicagothon (mostly due to its length), but the people who loved it were simply much louder than the people who thought we were wasting our time.

Fair enough - I had assumed that the care you wanted people to take with their submissions simply involved their 250 character description submissions, and it's entirely my mistake for assuming so. I'll see what improvements we can make before the 14th and come back to appeal with sufficient evidence of improvement at that time, should I feel it's significant (i.e. in the realm of 20:00) enough to warrant a second (or maybe third by this point) consideration.

Cheers.

My primary concern for 3 or 4 way races at this point (other than simply having people of similar skill levels) is how much we have to tweak the setup to accomodate that. Having 4 TVs set up the entire time is a colossal waste of space, but if we can get it so that all we have to do is haul the TV into place and connect a couple of cables then that's far less of a hassle. Part of the problem is that the console cart ended up just getting in the way, so we learned something from that at least.
Thanks for the reconsideration.

I don't know why there would be "testaments that m1 didn't practice the run whatsoever or try testing it" when 1. no one was paying attention to the PC people were testing on, and I factually did test it, and 2. one look at my twitch VODs would show I've been practicing since before AGDQ2014 marathon signups even started. I know you didn't say that, but whoever did is being outright deceptive.

But I completely agree with your current reason for dropping it. You shouls cut me from System Shock 2 as well, since I can't justify spending several hundred dollars to come do a 15-minute run and nothing else.

I'm pretty sure he meant on the actual gaming PC itself, I doubt he meant before the event.
Also, I believe cave story was done before the extra computers came from professorbroman meaning it was entirely viable that m1 may not have had any time to practice the game at AGDQ. There were 0 computers in the practice room and a ton of people using the main PC to get their games setup.

Right, I meant at the event. It's irrelevant though since again, I wasn't in the room keeping tabs on everything.

Also, I should have said this earlier, but pretty much everyone on the committee (including me) is extremely busy for the next couple of days, so you probably won't see any updates to the spreadsheets until sometime around Thursday.
Posting in support of suidt's cut Super Luigi U run - always been entertaining on stream.
