I don't know where else to make my case so sorry if this is the wrong place.

I feel insulted about the reason for Cave Story being rejected. I was properly prepared for my run, to the best of my knowledge. Let me describe what happened.

1. I installed CS on the PC I was to use for the run.
2. I checked the controller I was using, (by simply plugging it in) using a certain usb extension which I was told the PC was to use.
3. I played the game for about a minute, seemed fine. Someone was waiting for me to finish so they could also test their game.
4. Later, my run was about to start, I was told to use a different usb extension which was added on to the one I used earlier. The controller didn't work.
5. It was soon found that the mouse and keyboard plugged into similar extensions (I think they were split off from the one I used for the controller) no longer worked.
6. After a few minutes of the tech team not knowing what was wrong, Lurkchan offered to let me use his laptop. As a last resort we did so.
7. It worked, but for some reason the game ran at about half-framerate compared to usual. I requested a moment to troubleshoot, was denied.
8. Played on and got a decent run - a single, unfortunate death cost quite a bit of time, but not a big deal otherwise. I got a lot of positive feedback about the run, though I guess you guys would know how much or how little $$$ it made.

The only issue was with the usb extensions used for my controller, which I hadn't tested because I didn't know about them. I tested a different extension that I'd been told about, and it worked fine.
There was also something mentioned about installing the controller's drivers. There are drivers you can download and install for the adapter I use on my controller, but I've never had to use them before, and didn't have to use it on the extention I tested. I just plugged it in and it worked, just like it works on my laptop and desktop PCs.

If you want to find a reason to cut the game, I'm fine with that. Just please know that the "fiasco" wasn't caused by me "not being properly prepared."
I accidentally used two different forms for one of my games that I submitted two categories for. My apologies! Regardless if I am cut or not, thanks for considering! Here's to hoping to come out and play. The lineup so far looks amazing!
Metal Wolf Chaos will be the Halo 2 of SGDQ2014. Calling it now.
It appears that the downfall of the FF runs is leading, obviously, to the Mario RPG runs.  All hail Mario!

For Tales of Symphonia, I'd be willing to join up for a co-op run, since the only use of co-op over single player would be faster battles and that wouldn't be hard to learn at all.
I really agree with M1 about the "fiasco". It was one of the many issues that plagued PC runs at AGDQ and it's super unfortunate that M1 was one of the ones who's run was really negatively affected by it, but I think that If any other runner had been in those circumstances the result would have been the same or worse. I'm not sure M1's preparation is as much of an issue here rather than just unfortunate PC happenings.
Sad face; Recettear is cut.  I understand that a run of the game is a bit...dry and confusing, but it is the only game I've been able to find that is an accurate job simulator of my actual job.  Oh well.
wibbly wobbly timey wimey
Sad that Recettear is out...

Submitted mine, on the offchance I *can* go to SGDQ this year (family plans right now say no, but stuff can change)
If not, I'll support in whatever way I can, even if it's just from the sidelines.

NewAgeRetroHippie: I hope you look into M&LSS japanese glitched category to see how viable it is for a marathon. It's some of the most hilarious glitchy messy stuff I've ever seen in a speedrun, if the TAS is anything to go by Cheesy

Also, I'm guessing TTYD is going to be the marathon finale.
I can vouch for M1's preparedness regarding Cave Story. An unfortunate string of technical issues (which understandably happened for the first PC run of the marathon) hindered the run, and I disagree with the dismissal.

On an unrelated note, I'm hoping to see a decision soon regarding my submissions, especially Portal 2 Solo Coop. I forgot to include a link to a video in the submission, so here's my current PB: http://www.twitch.tv/azorae/c/2436026

The glitch in JP M&LSS is not consistent at all, and is practically random, so unless mugg1991 figures out something soon (and I doubt he will), it's not going to happen here.

Also, there hasn't been any word about the marathon finale yet.
M1 is a good player and the PC setup at agdq was pretty bad as seen by multiple runs from multiple runners. Holding anything aside from a tight estimate against him seems silly. Just my 2 cents as a speedgamer and someone who was there.
Im happy to report that I streamed fallout new vegas for about 4 hours and about 6 runs with no crashing Smiley
Yeah the PC setup for marathons has been pretty bad. You can't blame the runners for that.
Hi guys,

Just noticed my BoF: DQ submission got put up with a 1:40:00 estimate when the estimate I originally entered was 1:27:00. I had already added the "5 minutes per half hour" buffer to my original estimate. I thought the op implied we were supposed to do that calculation for ourselves when submitting. Just to be clear, I expect the actual run time (from timer start to timer stop) to be around 1:15:00.
Totally rad

Strongly second this.
Should Super Meat Boy never make it in again because the setup was bad?
Is George a bad runner because the Tony Hawk block wasn't set up correctly?
~_~
I will have my 6 hour run, just you wait and see.
Seconding the complaints about the PC setup, for the second year in a row. Off the top of my head, Super Meat Boy, Tomb Raider, Hotline Miami, THPS, The Zoo Race, and Prayer Warriors all had serious issues with setup and running. I was also unable to run The Simpsons: Hit & Run because the game refused to run on any of the PCs present - even after full fresh installations. At the event and afterward, I hear nothing but negative things about the PC setup - even from the technical staff themselves.
I have had multiple conversations with runners who have been at these events from the beginning that end with, "It's always been this bad, and it will never get better."

I've watched M1 play Cave Story for a while, and his AGDQ run was not representative of his skill. That said, denying a runner because of technical issues that he was not responsible for is unfair.
I agree with everything said about the PC setup. Those USB extensions were not working properly and that should not be blamed on the runner.
If anything, I feel M1 deserves a chance to show Cave Story off for real, after something that was clearly not his fault.

You know, Cave Story has been at other GDQ's, and was just done at AGDQ, so regardless of setup issues, it WOULD be nice to see other indie games instead...
On the subject of Fallout: New Vegas, I would be willing to make it a race as I hold the fastest known time for both SS and RTA, I would love to run it at a GDQ but I didn't bother submitting it this time since last time I did I got a flat no, with no chance of a yes since it's quite literally all walking. (There's 15 minutes of just walking through the desert, basically.)

The game is pretty stable though, out of hundreds of runs, I've only ever had one crash, so unless the PC setup is ass again it should be fine. Estimate could also be lowered to 42 minutes since 38 minutes for the run would be considered a fairly bad time.

while this is a perfectly valid reason, it was not the one used to cut the run.

the technical difficulties were not m1's fault at all - how was he expected to know that the USB extension would make the mayflash adapter not work? how was he supposed to know that he might need the drivers for the mayflash, even when they use the most common plug-in-play compliant drivers? i do suppose i should have known that cave story would not run smoothly in full screen, but i've never played the game full screen, so for that i apologize.

cutting cave story is fine, but don't blame the runner for the PC setup and then use it as a reason to personally cut 2 of their 3 games.
Gold Standard
