Thought I would just quote this post to get your attention but just noticed you Hit & Run run got accepted (so far) I also submitted one although i gave a very generous time would you be down for a race?

As long as your time is close to mine so that the race will be entertaining, sure. I've raced the game before, it's pretty fun to do.

Also, I agree that having two different categories side by side will be too confusing. Also, in the case of MSF, NG is only interesting on its own - if it was shown next to NG+, it would look like the same route, but slower and with fewer tricks.

Well I figure my PB will be about 2:13:00 by the time it rolls around is that good?

Shame char limit is so low; couldn't squeeze in potential donation incentives for Pikmin (secret bosses). Ah well, still submitted. GL to everyone else who submitted, too
I just want to throw in my 2 cents on Dustforce,
I disagree a lot on the risk of the last levels in the game. Whether or not those levels can be done consistently is up to how much time the runner puts into the game. Both Dice and I (the two runners who actively ran SS All Levels) could consistently finish every run, and I'm confident that it could be done in under 1 hour every time. Heck, I was even able to complete a run for that weird Swiftrunners thing when we were nowhere as good as we are now.
The question is if Mapler can and is willing to put in the time to get to the level where he can do it all consistently.

Also, I know someone was going to offer any% All Levels. That category uses checkpoints so the last levels in the game are won't be an issue for finishing.

I just don't want to see Dustforce completely disregarded in all future marathons due to one performance in a marathon.

Don't worry krank, the issue with Dustforce is entirely on me. I'd need to be actively completing runs to prove my consistency. Nobody thinks Dustforce is a bad marathon game, I've just already proven that I was unreliable when they took me on my word that I could do it.

EDIT: I think it's fair to say that if either you or Dice offered the game, it would be given far more consideration. The fact of the matter is that I most likely will not run SS All Levels in a marathon unless I've been streaming completed runs on a regular basis.

Just wanted to say thanks to Romscout and the committee for reviewing my games, even though they both got rejected. I don't envy your guy's jobs. On the bright side, that'll give me a chance to enjoy the trip without the stress of a run, and hopefully I'll get a chance in the future.

Want to throw in a (biased) word for Pokemon TCG:

The argument against it is that the game is hard to follow, and while I understand how you reached that conclusion, I disagree. At it's core, this game is fairly simple, meaning the explanations we give don't require any technical knowledge of the game to be understood (other than knowing how the Pokemon Trading Card Game is structured, which many people already know from the actual thing, and the in-game tutorial explains it as well). In addition, enemy strategies can be explained rather briefly, leaving the rest of their turns to explain anything that might go too fast on the player's turn.

If it supports my case, I did my first run of this game after watching only two of Anees' runs and had no problems completing the route. For a game that's over 90 minutes long for a new runner, I think that speaks a lot to how well the game can be explained during  mid-run.

Didn't know Stonenot submitted Fallout 3 as well. Disregard my F3 submission then, he is much better at the game than I am (my PB is only 29.11)

I saw that Fallout: New Vegas is so far though, I would love to do a race with it! (I'm still learning it, but I have pretty much the entire game down) EDIT: Possible race type: I could do Jump% (essentially using jumping as my movement, instead of walking). The reason behind this is majority of Fallout players think, or assume (like myself) that jumping is actually faster than walking normally (even if marginal) and it would be interesting to see, in a side-by-side comparrison which is actually faster!
I'd like to provide some arguments to support my earlier submission of Tales of Symphonia for SGDQ 2014, since 250 characters simply cannot do the game justice and the long length will be more of a deterrent than an incentive.

It cannot be denied that there was an abundance of Square produced JRPGs in the previous GDQs (Chrono Trigger during AGDQ 2014, Final Fantasy IV and V during SGDQ 2013, Final Fantasy IX during AGDQ 2013, etc.). It could even be said that it has become a habit or a commonplace to include a Square produced JRPG every GDQ from here on out. However, one of the largest appeals of the GDQs is its diversity when it comes to speed games. Mikwuyma and other hosts of the GDQs make it a priority to diversify the game list each year, adding a fresh new taste for the ever growing viewer base.

As such, Tales of Symphonia is perfect for replacing the string of Square produced JRPGs that always manages to find a seat in the game list. A JRPG from the Tales series produced by Namco, Tales of Symphonia is a radical departure from Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger. Apart from it being a different franchise, Tales of Symphonia (from here on abbreviated as ToS) is a completely different genre of RPG. ToS is a real-time RPG, meaning that all actions, movement, abilities, etc. are occuring without pause or "turns." This allows for a completely different experience of gameplay/ viewing. Real-time RPGs also are much more skill-based than turn-based RPGs, as (added with the factor of RNG) nothing is predetermined and everything is done while on the move. One must be able to change strategies and maneuvers on the fly, when the battle demands it, and, as a result, battles never truly become repetitive. That's essential in a 8 hour speed run, where the goal is to maintain the interest of the viewers throughout that entire time period.

ToS is not a obscure, unknown RPG. It is hailed as the greatest RPG to be released on the Gamecube (next to Skies of Arcadia, which originally released for the Dreamcast) and has sold nearly 1 million copies on the Gamecube alone. Of course, sales figures do not determine the success of a game in a GDQ marathon event, but it definitely paints a picture as to the popularity of game. Should the game actually make the cut, SGDQ 2014 will not be seeing a sharp decline of viewers from the game's introduction and progress.

ToS is abundant with possible donation incentives. Besides the obvious Kratos vs. Zelos donation incentive, other possibilities include turning voices on (so that you could never miss out on Cam Clarke's sexy voice), the option to view certain cutscenes (i.e. the Coffee cutscene, Kvar's death), and the option of going after some costumes for battle. ToS has a lot to offer when it comes to bringing in money.

Of course, there is also commentary. I have massive experience with entertaining a viewer base for extensive periods of time. I've done multiple runs of ToS, both Any% and All Bosses (which is 9-10 hours), and not once do I waiver when it comes to commentating these speed runs. My commentaries are also very welcoming, light-hearted, engaging, and possibly enlightening, so there is no fear in me gradually dying out as the runner and commentator. Also, there is an abundance of unimportant cutscenes between intense battles, so there is ample time for donations to be read. There will undoubtedly be a good mix between donation readings and runner commentary.

I also happen to hold the official World Record for ToS in this category (in English). It's not like I'm requesting a game I have never played before, and I have complete confidence in my abilities as a speed runner. If selected, I can surely give viewers a run for their money.

ToS isn't the patron saint of JRPGs though. It does come with its faults. Besides the obvious length issue, it also deals with long stretches of inactivity between battles. Lots of walking between towns or buying equipment or progression of plot. While ToS is fairly popular, it pales in comparison to the likes of other JRPGs such as Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy. Some viewers may not be as intrigued about real-time RPGs.

We should not turn a blind eye towards the faults of our games. But I have no doubt that ToS can be a successful game in a GDQ. It doesn't have to be in SGDQ 2014 or AGDQ 2015, or it could even be a Bonus stream game (Imagine that). But ToS surely has what it takes to be a major donation game this year, or in coming years.

As someone who loves the Pokemon TCG game and even used to play the TCG competitively IRL, I'm just going to say that I have a hard time following the fast menu-ing a lot of the time. I still think it's a great game and would love to see it commentated in some kind of marathon, but I'm not sure if SGDQ would have the best audience for it.
Terrible at games
Also, a note on my Anodyne- there's a chance that I will be able to get developer commentary, considering they know of our existence (They put a "Come here from AGDQ? Check out our new game" on their website), and more importantly, Sean is doing commentary on my run at IndieCade East later this month, so there would be a good chance he would do it again.

That could definitely be a good incentive.

Guys, I have posted my Form for SGDQ 2014 games a few hours ago, I close out of the Google Doc when it says the form has been sent, but SpikeVegeta doesn't get the form entry, and it's not on either the Game List or the Cut List. What have I done wrong?

It's in the queue to be looked at. Don't worry. SpikeVegeta isn't the person who makes the cuts. He's just running a stream.

You've failed to exercise enough patience Wink

The first day of submissions was absolutely crazy, meaning the people deciding what games to cut and which to allow are still going through yesterdays submissions, and it will take a good deal of time before anything submitted today will be processed. And spikevegeta doesn't get to see a game on either list until a game is processed.

Ok thanks Wink I was just worried. I run obscure games so I might be cut anyways, but I just wanna have fun speed running for people
I also want to throw my support behind Pokemon TCG. Good commentary could overcome any problems it might have of the audience not being able to follow it.
This is not the giant
Daily has confirmed he won't be able to do Bomberman Hero for the marathon
(user is banned)
Would a three-way race be too much to ask for Bomberman Hero? The gdoc only said four-way is out of the question.

Metal Wolf Chaos is definitely worth the time investment.

Metal wolf is the kind of game that the chat would go insane over.
@BlackRazgriz:  Are there 3 other that could co-op ToS with you at a competent level?  If so that would help it's chances.  Maybe not a lot, but it would make it a bigger sell.  I personally would love to see it at a marathon, but I do understand that it's a really long run with a smaller fanbase than a Square RPG.

Twitch chat might explode into red, white, and blue fireworks if Metal Wolf Chaos is played.
Imagine how many donations we would get with the comment "I AM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA"
I entered my submission, but the box for my twitch page didn't go through. It's at twitch.tv/karls_friend

I cant contain my excitement for a potential Star Wars block.

All of the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games are action packed and really entertaining. I nerd over these games all the time.
Not to mention the runners that submitted the games are extremely skilled at them.
