Anyone know how to prevent the framerate from constantly going down to 60 FPS when the screen flashes from getting an item?

I did, but that only accounts for half of those effects. On most other clients I've used, the problem was fixed by changing the gamma settings, but somehow JoeQuake just doesn't do it...

Traditionally hitting the key above TAB would do that in Vanilla Quake at least.
