I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I just completed a preliminary/practice run for this game a few minutes ago...

It's decent for a first try, but I still need to make some more optimizations in things like my overall stats, and route. The obvious errors are when I drop my 100% combo against the officer on the desert stage, and Kanbei's mine taking a little longer to clear than I had hoped. Otherwise, things went quite smoothly.

In terms of a single segment run, it seems like Mitsunari (the character used in this run) or Ieyasu would be optimal due to Mitsunari's overall fast running/dash canceling speed, and his 100% combos against bosses. Ieyasu also has a semi-infinite on bosses and a guard crushing headbutt, but as I haven't tested how useful it is, I decided to save him for my second run.

The dash canceling you see in the video is a bit faster than sprinting, provided that the player can do it consistently. The biggest issue with it is the constant cutscene interruptions, which are almost guaranteed to break your dash cancel chain. Therefore, if a level has a bunch of cutscenes, it may be better to simply sprint instead.

BASARA Drive/Boosting will cancel a boss's BASARA attack if it's done right during their initial attack pose, as I demonstrate in this video. If a 100% combo is dropped, this is the best way to salvage the stage run without restarting.

I'll optimize my path a bit further, and make another run within the week.
Thread title:
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
I admit, I was holding out from posting for Basara until I was able to get a better understanding of the game (I probably should had mentioned that Basara was the main reason why I had posted the "Can you use the import unlocking software to play the games on your NA system" topic)...  I discovered this game from a few months ago, and it seemed to be an interesting take on the runaround beat em up (although I'm still more of the Koei/Dynasty warriors/Samurai Warriors kind of guy).  After watching a few videos I decided to try all three games (Devil Kings on PS2, Basura 2 Heroes for the Wii, and just recently Basura 3 when it was released) and I have to say that I have really enjoyed it, inspite of not knowing what was being said in the last two (I would still get the english version, in spite of the horrible dubbing... KENSHIN! WHY!)

...

Anyway, getting that out of the system...  I saw the whole run a short while ago, and I have to say that it was awesome to watch how you tore apart the whole area with Mitsunari, but with that said, I do question a few things... One of my main complaints is this, Why go through all the trouble taking over every single part of the map when all you had to do is just rush in to the boss and violently combo the opponent to death?  I know there are a few stages where it is mandatory to take over the areas if you want to proceed, but take for example the very first stage against Magoichi Saika...  Really there is nothing that you have to do to unlock your way there, so there was no reason to go out of your way to take out the areas at a time... it would see to be more convenient to blitz the boss...

Outside of that, I'll do more research to know which people are the easiest to take out (such as that stage with the zombies and the escort ship)... as for the character you pick, I'm sure that it would be seen that each character is considered their own category... So it shouldn't matter who you pick... that said, once I get my characters up to max with reasonable equipment, I'll be sure to make an attempt or two at this game too...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I suppose I should have mentioned that I wasn't aiming for 100% speed, and took a bunch of detours for the sake of entertainment. Also, the bosses are weakened by how many bases you take, so I figured it might be worth it in the long run. Again, this was just a test run, so I'll probably skip the bases altogether in the next one.

On Kanbei's mine, it usually is necessary to take out all the bases so that the bomb guys can get rid of the final rockfall quicker. On Mori's stage, you'll face constant interruptions from the sunbeams unless you take out all the bases.
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
To be honest, during both runs, I never noticed any differences... Granted as I said before, some missions require you to take the bases, so it goes without saying...

I'm sure though that you can still take out enemies fairly the same if you are high leveled...  Still, I'll double check...

Also to add another amendment to how this speed run would work...  You are also able to take different paths with characters (red, green and blue)  So while you may take a red path, it could be slower than a green path, but then that is because you are having to fight more people...

Ex. Mitsunari- red path & blue would be seperate due to stage that can be encountered...

I don't have a v2 of the run yet, but I do have enough updates to warrant a thread bump.

Ieyasu is now a contender for the best character to do a speedrun with. His headbutt does ridiculous damage on bosses, guard crushes, has enough hitstun to kill a boss from full health, can be landed from a basic air combo, ground string or deadlock, and it even takes out bases in two to three hits. Even the heavyweight-class enemies (Tadakatsu, Muneshige and Kanbei) are trapped in hitstun during it, making it an invaluable move for speedrunning.

The one issue with this move is that it can be hard to land against bosses if they don't cooperate, at which point a boost comes in handy. As MAS8 pointed out earlier, it's faster to ignore the bases in most cases, but for Ieyasu, the bases are actually an effective way to fill his boost gauge if the base is in the direct path of the boss. Three charge headbutts will kill any base, which gives about 20% boost. This essentially means that there's little reason to not use boost to land a 100% combo on each boss, even if there aren't any mandatory bases on a map.

So, as it stands right now, Mitsunari has better running speed and overall boss control with his 100% combos that can be started off of any of his moves, while Ieyasu is essentially the no-BS character in terms of execution and skill. Ieyasu easily wins the base contest, so much to the point where taking out all bases on a map is barely a detour for him, compared to it being a huge time waster for the rest of the cast. Both characters work for single-segment runs, but Ieyasu would benefit from segmented runs due to the fact that he doesn't have as many ways to cheat the AI as Mitsunari does.

My test run today was around 30-45 minutes, with me taking most of the bases and playing casually. I plan on getting another test run recorded today. Thanks to MAS8705 for his input, by the way. I tend to balance my videos somewhere between speedrunning and stylish play, which shows in my first run and the unnecessary base destroying. I'm going to attempt to change that with this Ieyasu run, but as I said before, there will still be some minor detours on certain maps due to how easy it is to take bases with him.

Finally, an optimal run in this game would require maxed attack via the monks/fugitives that give permanent stat boosts, but as I haven't done this with any of the characters yet, I can't fully call my runs "official". The attack boost wouldn't affect Mitsunari much aside from having to do a few less reps of his 100%/infinite combo, but it would be invaluable for Ieyasu given how much damage his headbutt already does, limiting how many times it would need to be done, and giving the player a larger margin of error if the boss doesn't cooperate.

*casts topic revival*  I love doing that... Of course I never Revive topics unless if I have a good reason... so here is this topic revival's reason...

https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=tuXC6Tqw4nRQK36ZS2lqpxA&hl=en#gid=10

this spreadsheet contains all routes for all characters... this means a few things...

1) there very well can be situations of "Ieyasu-red Route Speed run" or "Blue Route speed run"
2) some people who you choose to fight set up how the next stage can be played out (i.e. I don't want to do this stage since it takes too long, but if I play this stage, the next stage will be even shorter...)

There is also the idea of "the last stand" that I still can't figure out though since I don't know what can be done to avoid it (if it actually can't be avoidable)...

With tstsuo's previous post raises a good point...  For most characters, what do you set as the super move?  Some characters are pretty easy since they have one really good move and the other two are a bit weaker...  But then you have moves that actually help characters move faster through the field...  So the idea here is this...
a) do you take the still that demolishes bosses, but it takes longer to get to them?
or
b) take the skill that gets you to the boss faster and fight him normal?

Decisions decisions...

I won't make any attempts at this until I get some lvl 99 characters ready... that and look into how fugitives and monks work...  Still, I got a good idea of how the run here works... one more to add to my "games to speed run" list...
We all scream for Eyes Cream
I've only played this game for the past 2 days so far but only as Mitsunari. I really enjoy this game a lot more compared to Samurai Warriors(After about 40 minutes of that game I switched to this one...). About the fugitives though, I haven't actually seen any, just gotten the message that they're around. How do I know where they might be or how to spot them? And would each character count as a separate category cause of the possible paths or no?
$15 per rant/allegory
I've not got this game yet, but this run looks awesome. Really entertaining.
Too lazy to sign in, but here...

http://s13.zetaboards.com/koeiwarriors/topic/6725521/1/#new

You need to unlock Hattori Hanzo to find the monks/fugitives. Once you equip him, the monks appear on the HUD map. Each monk can only be obtained once per map per character, so there's a cap to how high this can take your stats.

-Tetsuo

P.S I apologize for not replying to your message on Youtube, but I get so many annoying/stupid game help requests on there, that your legitimate question got buried.
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
no worries tetsuo, its good to know how to get them so I'll start working on it... I believe though what while you may get all fugitives, I don't know if that really will max out your stats, so I looked into two other strategies...

1) As far as I see, Warhorses are the best if you need to can get business done within 3 minutes, but then after 3 minutes, warhorses are pretty worthless and leave you in a position of being very weak...  So in stages where the stage can be finished under three minutes, this can actually speed take out opponents in a few hits

2) to quote member kratos1173 in gamefaqs, "Honestly, if you are decent at blocking I would recommend putting on the Rear Line accessory and then making the rest Mantises. Each Gold Mantis will give you 400 attack & and defense, making you pretty much unstoppable."  So yea, by placing yourself into the "Danger" red zone, you can use the mantis accessory to boost your stats to max...  This would be great for stages for a long period, but leaves in a position of getting killed off fast if you aren't careful...

The last note I'll will leave on here is a simple plan of how the speed run for this game could work...  While I'm still for the "play campaign on different routes" still, IL levels is also available...  How this would work is simple, best time for the stage, but just have different difficulties if anything else.. Just like F-Zero or Mario Kart; one time per stage, no multiple characters...  With that said, LONG LIVE THE SAIKA FACTION!
We all scream for Eyes Cream
I've been using those forums since I found them for the Special Rewards. Just need to find the specific path when playing as Fuuma...and I still need to unlock him. Only unlocked Yoshitsugu, Motanari, Motochika, and Tsuruhime(I think that's it). Trying to unlock others as well but I keep replaying Story Modes instead of starting new ones.

For the Rear Line-Gold Mantis strategy, I'm sure the last thing the runner would need to worry about is getting hit since you can just infinite the bosses and such with Mitsunari/Ieyasu. And since it replaces all Health Ups with Basaras, you can go grab enough for a full Basara gauge and use it at the start. If the strongest available weapon for the character is one that increases Basara Damage that makes it worth using too, or if an Elemental weapon, then you can use an Ally that boosts that element chance.

Of course a maxed out character is necessary.
For experience, just farm the Sekigahara Intrusion map like so...

Obviously you might have some trouble getting high combos with every character, but you can farm to your heart's content. Even on a level 1 character, it's fairly easy to get several levels even if you die on Easy.
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
farming isn't too hard... especially if you first get your character to 100% in the story (perhaps a minimum of 4 playthroughs to get their special skill...), collect the bodyguards they can get and work on getting all fugitives, you would probably hit 99 before you get half way there...  Still for people who just want to get up to 99, it helps (although that granted last I checked, the only thing that actually goes up when you level up is just your health, unless if you hit 99 and get an attack boost...)

But yea, as soon as I get the items, I'll be hitting this game for a speed run (even though it will probably be just IL for now...)
We all scream for Eyes Cream
Haven't gotten that map yet but I've had little trouble in leveling. I think I maxed 3 characters just by repeated Story mode runs just to do the different paths. I usually just do Easy Mode with the 1XP per KO weapon, 4 EXP badges(Gives 5k instantly), then I use 2 EXP giving items(Double Special Rewards and the one that hides your health gauge) and I can gain a number of levels easily.

Definitely gonna work on unlocking stuff.

Yeah, levels are just for health boosts and new skills. Depending on the character, you may or may not need to bother with the grinding if their skills aren't that great.
The easiest way to get Sekigahara Intrusion is to beat the game with Kanbei. He can be a bit dry to play as at first, so cheat by beating his story via co-op if you must.
We all scream for Eyes Cream
Unfortunately I don't have a 2nd Wii Remote. Hell I might need to invest in a new Nunchuk since at times this one disconnects while still being connected. Lately hasn't happened though its most likely manageable. Playing as Kanbei isn't so bad though.......sometimes.
Ouch, you're not playing on a Classic Controller Pro? I can't imagine doing the run I posted earlier on anything but that.

Let me help you with that really fast...  I know you have some of these characters already, but for the others who haven't a clue about this game (can't imagine why) here is the unlock list...

Chosokabe Motochika Clear Sengoku Drama Emaki with Saika Magoichi
Fuma Kotaro Clear Sengoku Drama Emaki with Sanada Yukimura
Honda Tadakatsu Clear Sengoku Drama Emaki with Shimazu Otani
Maeda Keiji Clear Sengoku Drama Emaki with Date Masamune
Mori Motonari Clear Sengoku Drama Emaki with Tsuruhime and Chosokabe
Oichi Clear Sengoku Drama Emaki with Fuma and Maeda
Otani Yoshitsugu Clear Sengoku Drama Emaki with Ishida Mitsunari
Shimazu Yoshihiro Clear Sengoku Drama Emaki with Kuroda Kanbe
Tsuruhime Clear Sengoku Drama Emaki with Tokugawa Ieyasu

2nd, use Kanbe... By playing with Kanbe, you can get that stage Tetsuo played... (blast it tetsuo beat me to this)  Kanbe isn't actually too bad... his forward skill ability held down is as awesome as it is brutal and once you get the ultimate atomic smasher, you can burn through the bosses like butter...

Lastly, (This should already be known that any game posted in SDA will have spoilers) There is the overlord him self...

Finish Oichi's Story Mode once, then start again, taking the Green route, following Tenkai when you reach Kobayakawa's stage, and killing Tenkai, and finish the route. After that, go back to any cleared character and look for a short grey alternate route near the end of one of their normal routes. Go down that route and follow the grey path, and clear the Honnoji stage to unlock Nobunaga for play...  and man once you get nobunaga, you are going to have a blast, especially once you get to lvl 10...

and once again tetsuo posted in the middle of this explanation... I am in total agreement, I can't imagine using the wii remote either, the classic controller makes much more sense...
I'd totally be down to record another run on the US version if I could convert my save over. My friend and I got near 100% on the JP version, so it's difficult to start over.

I tried to convert the save earlier, but sadly it doesn't work like that... Granted that perhaps if I get the 100% I could probably post it wiisave, but yea, if you want to do the speed runs in the Jap. version, go for it... Last I checked, there are no differences in the two games besides language and VAs *attempts to hold back rage*

but you do also raise one good point for the idea of "Co-op" but I suppose I'll worry about that if I can find a partner...

Yeeaaah I already said I knew all that.

I was working on Kanbe's route but I forgot how far I got. I think I got to where I gotta go to the Saica Faction? Maybe after. Haven't played today cause I need to juggle finding work and practice KH2 for the marathon. As for the Classic Controller vs the Wii Remote + Nunchuk, I have no problem with it really. Plus I never had a Classic Controller.
Co-op slows down the framerate even on the PS3  version, apparently. I imagine you'd have to do some tests to see if it's really faster, and even then, I doubt that a co-op game is faster.

Ok so after looking up some information, I got some stuff to post.

First is a spreadsheet I found with the Heroes Story Paths(You probably already seen it though, but it'll help with picking out a fast route), as well as Accessory information. You can find it here. https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AoKruCqo-JXNdHVYQzZUcXc0blJRSzM2WlMybHFweEE&hl=en#gid=8

Second is the accessories and weapon that should be used. Weapon should be the Rank 5 Type A weapon as it grants a Large Attack and Defense bonus when Health, Basara, and Hero Gauges are filled. You'll want the weapon to have 6 slots too. Next, you'll want to equip 3 Golden Dragons, High Risk, High Return(You deal 1.5x more damage but take 3x more times when hit), Holy Water(Full Basara Gauge at the start), and Hot Spring(Full Hero Gauge at the start). The main reason for the Golden Dragons is that they give a much higher boost than the Mantis(900 compared to 400), even with only 4 available compared to 6 Golden Mantis accessories(4 Golden Dragons = 3600, 6 Golden Mantis = 2400). The Holy Water and Hot Spring are so we don't have to grind for the gauges to be filled, but on stages where a bit of fighting is required, they're not necessary, so more Golden Dragons will help.

Last thing is that I already created what's probably the fastest path for Mitsunari's Red Path

Saica->Amago->Kobayakawa/Tenkai->Tsuruhime(Need to have Allies show up)->Mouri->Shimazu(Go to the right base after he hides, take over, force Shimazu to retreat, then head to his Gate)->Sekigahara - Assembly
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
*revives topic*

Once again I find myself reviving a topic that I had a great interest in...  This time however for good reason...  While I did say that Brutal Legend would be my first primary concern, it is going to be a while before I feel good about running it, so I'm actually going to look further into it later on...  For now though, Basara has caught my full attention right now...

All I need to get is alot more fugitives with all the characters...

Since I already got all the fugitives with Saika, she will be first...  I got the red route planned, but the blue route is still a work in progress...  The main things I'm trying to do is make sure that any stages run, they need to be the shorter ones...  So far I came up with the following list based off of practice runs and warhorses, if they are under stages to do, the stage was beaten under 2 minutes 30 seconds (still need two more)...  Otherwise it is split or stages to avoid...  Going to use everyone's last names (with all NPC getting a brief descrip to help recognize new characters faster)

Stage to do:
Mount Osore- Nanbu (old ninja that summons zombies)- Take the bottom then circle, and as long as the posts aren't taken, the area will open for you to finish it...
headstrong at Kubota- Satake (big guy wearing brown armor)- After the first area, go right... After that go right up the hill, ride down the zipline and its straightforward from there...
Battle of Kannagawa- Utsunomiya (guy wearing blue and fights with spears, tigers and fog)- very straightforward, after fog go left and use the catapult to shoot you to the end
Both Ueda Castles- Sanada & Date- After you open the first gate, you can rush the assistant and get the main guy
Kaerikumo Castle- Anegakoji (guy in green armor who fights with logs) Use catapults and open the castle, very fast one
Battle of Tetorigawa- Maeda and Matsu- If you can target Matsu and take her out first, you can skip the storehouse collecting...
Saica stronghold- Saica- just follow the path... that's it...
Siege of Karasu Castle- Kobayakawa and Tenkai- go after tenkai, and don't get blown up...
Gassantoda castle- Amago- he is right there, can't miss him
Battle of itsukushima- after the first gate, you can run to him

Stages to avoid:
Dragon Race at Oshu- Date- The Racing back and forth and the fights take too long
Kawanakajima Tundra- Uesugi- Too many people to kill here... granted if you are stuck with this stage, be sure to go up and get the horse (forget fighting Kenji since he only comes back if you beat him first
Mines of Ishigakibaru- Kuroda- this stage is annoying since you have to wait for the bombers to attack the walls, and if you don't pay attention, one enemy unit can easily wipe out the bombers... and the digger is also time wasting..
Hetsugigawa: heroes- otoro- Too many heroes to take out
Ambush at mimihawa: I really hate Shimazu's run away tactic... granted if you can get him quickly enough, he should be too hard, but he is still someone I normally avoid when I can...

Stages split:
Siege at Hasedo Castle- Mogami (guy with wario mustache)- It takes about 3 minutes and 20 seconds for the ship to dock at the top (and that is when you don't make mistakes)  It is still an easy mission though and better if you need to make a choice
Odawara Castle- Hojo- I'm split on this due to a bit of a long stage and Kotaro is a bit of a bastard...
Kanegasaki Nightmare- Oichi- See respawns too many times, but it isn't like she is hard to kill or anything...
Nakatomigawa Fortress- Two rising suns and an obsticale course...  unless if you can do both flawlessly, this might not be good...
Battle of Noshima- Tsuruhime- don't get me wrong, she is easy, but at times stubborn... I normally avoid her when I can...
Hetsugigawa: memories- Otomo (the boy priest and Xavism) after the 2nd gate, run to the end, forget crazy chainsaw loyalist

Unskippable:
Cliffs of Miatagahara- Ieyasu- just avoid Hondam... I can't make it more obvious...  I guess the other hint is that if a character can run, perhaps avoid the ziplines, otherwise, take down the areas to use them...
Sekihaharas- all of them- Not going to bother, there are 7 different ones so you should know what to do...
Siege of Kanegasaki- Oichi- Run towards the end and take out Oichi and Tenaki
Incident at Honnoji- Oda- just don't let him take anything and use catapults at all times...
Both Osaka castles- Ishida & Kuroda- straightforward
Osaka: Tiger Summer- Sanada- there is a Catapult at the top... Just take the bottom right base, then use the trampoline you are there...
Osaka: Dragon Summer- Straight forward... I don't know if taking out Honda is faster or not, but this is usually a last stage so you can figure that out, no shortcuts here...
Pirates of Noshima- Get the suppliers... Can't really think of a good plan...

Outside of that though, I don't know if I should do for actual accessories...  Granted Ryman, you do have a good point about the accessories... the only problem I see with that set up is the obvious  "get hit and lose you power" but outside of that, I could see this working...  Still I may make use of a Warhorse setting and/or a 5 gold lions and High risk high return...  After all, its 4000 power for three minutes, and in most cases that is 1 more than needed...

I don't know though if I should do normal or easy and normal...
