So the topic came up during the SNES Superstars marathon - how about an online marathon only for Sega  games? No charity, just playing for fun.
Tentative date would be somewhere in late November/early December, after Best of NES and before AGDQ.

I'm mostly posting this to gauge interest and perhaps find some people willing to help me set something like that up.

Submit runs here! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1YaF7C9M-hWrlVohq15uL9zXVoK8rhkrpEU6yCdLU4ak/viewform
Thread title:
As mentioned elsewhere, I'd be interested. I've thought this would be a good idea since I heard of the SNES marathon.

I could do Socket, Chuck Rock II, Tempo (32x), could possibly do a slop run of SYD of Valis (I've got basic strats, never did a real run or tried to optimize - Could practice if it's wanted). I could be willing to help a bit with nonrunthings.

I think it'd be a good idea to allow all Genesis expansions, so 32x, CD, SMS (Power base converter).

I'm all for this happening. I don't know if aiming for a marathon as long as the Best of NES or SNES Super Stars is a good idea because I feel like there are a lot less games that have been ran from the full Sega catalogue but I'd be happy to be wrong about that. Some of the games lend themselves to multiple categories though so that could help. I say go for it.
Nya~ha~ha
A great idéa! And i would most definitly help out to set this up, if it gets to be done.  Having the full Sega catalogue would proberly be a the best way to go as people said before.
Rad... They have taken me...
I'd be down to learn/run a few sega games. Got some I'm working on right now. Could call it "SEGA Sonic Speed" or something.
I'm down.  Already run one game, halfway through learnin' another.  Plus we could have Streets of Rage races for DAYS.

I'd be happy to help, I do a 'Mega Marathon' challenge thing on my channel to beat every Mega Drive/Genesis game (65 down so far in nearly 1k hours, they're hard), and I've set up a Best of Nintendon't marathon recently (casual play oriented though).
I could help with virtually anything, I can run 3 games no one else would (lol), commentate, organize, schedule, contact other people who might be interested..

I think that all the non-Genesis consoles (i.e. Master System, Saturn and Dreamcast) have small enough libraries and few enough runners that we could just expand it to a general Sega console marathon. If there's the case of too many runs... well, let's just see how things go first. Smiley

Also, I think ports to non-Sega systems would be ok (e.g. the Steam or Virtual Console ports of various sega games), but the limit would have to be that they were at least on one Sega console as well.
there's some very dedicated master system runners too.
So talking with Feasel, he'd be willing to have this marathon on the Speedgaming channel, and we also talked about a possible date. I believe that late November/early December would be a good tentative time frame - just about a month after Best of NES and before AGDQ.
It would also allow runners that will be able to attend AGDQ to get some marathon practice to get used to playing in such a setting and giving commentary.

If you know anybody who runs a game on any Sega platform, feel free to contact them or point them in my direction either on here (thread or PM work) or on Twitter @RedArremerSDA

I'll be open for suggestions for the name of the marathon as well, but for now we'll just call it the Sega marathon. :p
difficult and stupidly random
I'd be happy to help out with this.  There's a lot of great games in that library, especially if the marathon includes all the Sega platforms.
Rad... They have taken me...
I wonder if Haunting is speedworthy, would be wicked entertaining for the masses. Game is hilariously fun!
If non-genesis sega games are allowed, I could always pick Steam Sonic CD back up, that's an easy enough run. I wish I was good enough at space channel 5 part 2 to offer that as well, cause that game is sick.
I was gonna try and maybe get Footbigmike in on this. Haven't heard from him in a while, though, and I'm not sure if he'd want to pick Sonic CD up again.
Extraguy can run Haunting, among other Mega Drive games.

You know I'd normally be up for something like this! Unfortunately the proposed dates don't really line up well for me, owing to the small matter of my wedding around that time. But I'll help you with whatever else you need, promotion etc. Smiley
Wow, congrats on the wedding, mike!  Hopefully I can have S3&K ready by then, and not just Sonic 2.
I think that a Segathon would be a great idea, and there are probably a lot more dedicated runners for Sega games than you think. I have some Dreamcast games that would be great for this, and I'm working on even more. Looking forward to future updates.

Right so I've been reaching out to some people on Twitter and Skype and such, and it seems like there's enough interest to put something together. I'll be setting up a google form to submit games to soon.

The tentative date is going to have us start on Saturday, November 26 (give or take a day) and the length will be determined based on how many people submit runs, but no longer than about a week I'd say.

If there's any questions or ideas, feel free to contact me here or on Twitter (or on Steam/Skype if you have me there), and I'll get back to you ASAP.

I also talked with someone who has contacts with Sega PR about using the brand "Sega" in the marathon name, and apparently in order to use it and the logo, you need a license, but Sega tends to look the other way for fan projects. So for now the tentative name will just be "Sega marathon", but it won't be the final one.
I'm game, Shining Force II and all that Smiley
I think this is a great idea. i can speed run a few non mega drive games, but are from DK so cant probbly not be on a marathon. But would love to wantch and promote.
What is a man?
Go for it! I come with a humble suggestion of using speedcontrol for managing the overlays / schedule on stream. It's coming along nicely and has already been through a couple of marathons without any notable hickup. The GTA Marathon going on right now uses it as well :). With some discussion I'm ready to offer a fully customized graphical overlay that's very easy to customize for you.
@DkRetro: It's an online marathon, anyone from anywhere can run games.

@charleon: Do you have me on Skype? If not, send me your handle on PM here and we can talk about it. Smiley
Alright, Google form is up, submit your runs here!

I'm hesitant to submit games considering this is over 7 months out from the marathon.

I'd rather not submit and have to pull them all because I was invited somewhere for Thanksgiving.

I wouldn't underestimate the number of Sega runs and runners there are.  It may involve some de-rusting but a significant chunk of the SMS library has runs.
