My feelings on The Demon Rush
The channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/speeddemosarchiveSDA

I'm sure a lot of you know about this channel already, but are probably unaware that I approve of the channel as the official SDA youtube channel.

I know the guy who runs the channel, c4p7ain c0mp0s7, and he's done a good job of running the channel. He was also nice enough to give me the password so we could take over the channel to promote the marathon. Grin The only problem with the channel is that it's not an old director's account, so we're still under the 11 minute restriction, but I'm not sure how we can get around that.

Quick FAQ:

Q: Wait a second, doesn't laughing_gas run the channel?

A: No, he created the channel, but handed it down to c4p7ain c0mp0s7.

Q: Why not just create your own SDA channel?

A: This channel already has a lot of runs up, gives runners and SDA proper credit, and has over 2000 subscribers. Also, there's no way anyone on staff would have the time to keep a youtube channel up to date.

Q: Can we get around the 11 minute restriction?

A: I'm honestly not sure.

Q: If there's a run of mine uploaded without my permission, can I have it taken down?

A: Of course! You can either leave a message on the speeddemosarchiveSDA youtube page, or PM c4p7ain c0mp0s7. This shouldn't be a problem in the future because c4p7ain c0mp0s7 now asks for permission before uploading videos to the channel.

Q: I already uploaded my run on my youtube channel, but could the SDA youtube channel make a playlist for my run or favorite the videos so more people can see it?

A: Sure.

Q: Will the marathon videos be uploaded to the channel?

A: I haven't told c4p7ain c0mp0s7 to upload the videos yet, but I'm sure he'll do it if we bug him enough.

Now, like I said before, having permission is important so please specify if you are fine with your runs being uploaded to the channel or not. I don't want to offend anybody here.

Thread title:
berserker status
I know I said I didn't want my runs hosted on any other youtube channel b/c of the effort involved, etc. but I'd be cool with having my runs uploaded onto the official sda youtube page.

Besides the fact that webnations is primarily an uploader of TAS videos, I just didn't want any other channel to benefit from my hard work by siphoning viewers away from my page.  If anything, having my runs hosted on the SDA channel would increase their popularity and thus more hits for me (hopefully).  It's nice to help out SDA any way I can and if having more videos hosted on the official youtube channel helps then count me in.  I'd like to think my runs would help out in that endeavor.  Tongue

I still wouldn't want anyone else to upload my videos, even if they credited me and all.  I <3 SDA and just want to do my part in making it more popular and complete, if possible.
Joke of all trades
feel free to host my runs, though there probably not worth the effort  Tongue

personnaly i was so bad at video edditing that i gave up on trying to put thing on youtube so having someone else doing it woul be great  Roll Eyes
we have lift off
I'm fine with any of my runs being uploaded.

I do have a question though, is the intention to just upload all published runs or if not, what decides if a run gets uploaded there?
Since the viacom lawsuit, there's absolutely no way to upload past 11 minutes... Not unless you're a corporate media entity at any rate.

Add playlists of my SDA runs on my youtube page up if you so choose.
Everything's better with Magitek
IIRC, at least one of my Dr. Mario 64 runs was posted on that channel, which is fine with me.  I'd like to keep the rest of my runs on my channel, though, so that I can view the statistics for them (mainly the comments).

I'd appreciate it if you could add playlists for the runs on my channel; I've already made playlists for them, so that might make it a little easier.

Shoryuken Shall Punish!
Chuck me on that list for the "Don't Upload to Channel" for the future. I got my own. Thank you Smiley
Promoting is by all means fine though ^_^
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I'd rather keep my runs on my own channel because the comments would never reach me otherwise, but you can put playlists of my runs on the SDA channel (the easiest way would probably be to just copy the playlists I have here and here). Speaking of playlists, I think that every run on the channel should be in a playlist, even runs that are only one video; otherwise, it's very inconvenient to browse through the runs, since many of them have a ton of videos associated with them. I would even go as far as to remove the "Uploads" link from the channel so people will know to look at the playlists instead.
I'm mostly the same, I don't want my runs on the SDA channel because I already upload them to my own. I'm perfectly fine with them being promoted through the SDA channel tho, by favorites, playlists, or whatever else. :3
You got a deletion wish?
My Bouncer runs are up there; I would like them playlisted if they're not already.

If anyone wants to add any of my runs, feel free.

Darn that gets frustrating Roll Eyes  6:12 Schloss Kosmos (Beautiful Katamari) video has 1,967 views, while the older 9:58 one has 77,749.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I suggest any run that enters verification you ask the runner then, instead of this post Tongue I vouch for creating playlists instead of forcing to sort by uploads, people dont use them much but once they learn they will have an easier time. I believe that account should reflect the page having all the current runs, no idea what you'd do with obsoletions besides putting an obsolete tag (or OLD like I do), keep in mind old videos still get viewed more than newer ones just because their view count brings them higher on the searches. Also 691 videos and 7 favs? get people to upload, theres that fav about a glitch, maybe keep those out.

Hey guys. Kudos to Mike for starting this thread, should help generate more interest.

So, I don't know why those playlists weren't showing up, but i fixed the problem. I make a playlist for each and every run posted on the channel, especially the single video ones. But if i miss one or forget, please let me know. Now im not sure why only 3 were visible (probably something to do with the recent channel overhaul that they did over at youtube, which i hate btw), but i hope you can see em all now.

I try to post runs based on which ones I think will be popular on youtube (remember this is youtube, so ya know lots of idiots), even though i personally think all the runs on sda are awesome. It's just the general public isn't always as forgiving.

Thanks to all the runners giving their support, and to those who prefer not to have their runs on the channel EFF YOU!! Haha, jk guys. I will add your playlists asap.

Good to see this topic is getting a lot of replies so quickly. I understand people already have youtube channels so they want to keep their stuff.

Playlists: Oh yeah that is weird, I had that problem despite my channel having one playlist.

obsoleted runs: You can put up big fat obnoxious links in the video to link to other runs. Captain compost did that for the Contra III run on the SDA channel (which is liger's old run).

I can upload over 11 minutes but its only because I have the Old Director status.

Even though I only got 2(3 if my Verifier-waiting submission gets accepted), I don't mind them being put up, as well as any future ones I plan on doing(When time is on my side).
Quits halfway
I don't know if this is more effort that he'd like to expend, but on any obsoleted run, for the first segment (which always has the most views) and maybe the last segment, put an annotation link spanning the top or bottom of the video, for the entire video, saying to check out the new run and linking to the first or last segment, or just the playlist. It's more invasive than linking in the description, but no one on youtube reads the descriptions.
SEGA Junkie
I'm going to throw my hat into the "I'll let you upload my videos" camp, largely because I don't have my own channel on Youtube to put them on (and don't really feel like it in any case).

Since all the stuff with Screwattack leading up to the marathon, I might post videos there though. Smiley
I'd also not like my runs uploaded (since I already have them on my own channel) but would appreciate a playlist or favouriting them or something. Should we message c4p7ain c0mp0s7 on YouTube to ask for this, or just post video links / playlist links here?
Could a SpeedDemosArchiveSDA playlist include speed videos not actually for SDA?  Because matthew69 and ThumbsOfSteel have done a killer playlist worth of Katamari Damacy and We Love Katamari level speedruns (most of them not on SDA but faster than the ones on SDA).  I'll gladly create a playlist of the best and ask the two of them whether c4p7ain c0mp0s7 can include their videos in it if non-SDA speedruns are allowed.  I'm pretty sure they'd both say yes.

Oh, another issue is that ThumbsOfSteel's videos are recorded with a video camera.

Better yet, I should just convince them to submit their work to SDA Grin Believe me, I've tried.  Some of matthew69's earlier WLK runs are on SDA.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Aftermath, yeah that's what I meant, an annotation. I don't know if placing it during the entire obsoleted run is necessary, but can't hurt. Tongue

Slowbro: I don't really have a problem with it, I guess. I would prefer it if those guys submitted to SDA though.
I have no problem with my runs being on this channel.
Fucking Weeaboo
I generally don't have a problem with my runs from SDA being on there, but just know that YouTube hasn't been to kind to some of my videos as of late (especially if it's Castlevania or Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles...).  Just warning you.
Food goes in here
Yeah i can add in some annotations for sure. Good idea actually.
I believe you can give other Yt users permission to make annotations. You could give the runner the necessary privs if they request it and they can handle it themselves.
boss
Go ahead and upload my stuff whenever you want.
