For the uninitiated, Ventrilo is commonly used for voice communication for online games and such. It could serve as an awesome companion to the IRC channel for multiple reasons. One such idea is being able to talk to people in real time while playing over MAME. Another, is being able to record group audio commentary if we could determine the proper settings. Or hell, even just to BS around in and exchange stupid links as usual. =p

Server Address is newyork.dallasxtreme.com
Port 3884

And for the love of god, make sure you bind a Push-to-talk hotkey. Ctrl is great.

I'd buy a mic for this.
To anyone missing a mic, mics aren't a lot of money, actually. Like, $10 at the nearest Wal*Mart. Or, hell, a headset is always awesome.
TIOLET!
Only if we can get a server that uses a decent codec. I hate it when everyone sounds like a 5-year old girl because the codec that's set on the server strips all bass.

Unless of course it's built into your computer.  Tongue
Fucking Weeaboo
Wii Speak, anyone?
My feelings on The Demon Rush
I'm down for this. I might even pay the 10 dollars per month if the server turns out to be popular.

Also, I know everyone will want to hear my voice once they hear, "DAAAAAAAAAAAARK CAAAASTLEEEEE". ;p

Ventrilo has more options than Wii Speak, and most likely doesn't sound like shit to boot. I would assume Wii Speak, like other console voice comms, sound like the shitty muffled codec on XBox live. Besides that, voice comms won't be limited to those who don't have a Wii since Vent is multiplatform.

I purchased a 25 slot server with no codec restrictions, so we should be able to change the codec around until we get something we like. I'll upgrade if it turns out to be popular enough. We'll have to come up with a system to deal with idlers though. Idling is for IRC, not for something with a userlimit.

The purchase is under review, so it'll take a little while. Probably today or tomorrow.

Everyone should go ahead and download the software.

Well well well, speak of the devil! They said it wouldn't be until later, but here's the damn thing right now.

Also, their pricing was based on a 50%-off coupon code. So for this first month, it's around $5. After this month, it'll be $10. Decent for a server of this size, but Ventrilo.net has 50-man servers for $15. We'll not get too cozy, but this'll do for now. We'll also create rooms as we go.

oops, free server is limited to 8. was going to try to save you some money but unless someone has a patch to raise the limit then we're screwed.
Back in the game!

Obviously, you can order shit online...but the nearest WalMart to me is around 150 miles away.
I don't even know what the fuck this is

What the fuck? Where the hell do you live, Tristan da Cunha?
Let's get more people in here. Idling is a good thing, for now, until more people download the software.

I guess I have to get a mic soon.

Hmm...
Also, Rock Band microphones work with pre-installed Logitech drivers on Windows XP. Plug 'n Play.
sda loyalist
I was on a little last night but my mic wasn't working. I'll be on again tonight, and it will be working.
I'm thinking we should probably move this to General Chat and sticky it. Pretty much nobody was aware of it yesterday until I mentioned it in IRC, heh.

Once we get a steady flow of people, we're going to have to work something out so people don't idle and clog it up for people who actually want to use it. I already set up some reserved slots, but I'm going to have to figure out how those work =p
of course if this weren't sda i'd just say: charge for reserved slots.
I use vent often for DotA, and I find mouse 3 (click the scroll wheel) works the best if you are doing other stuff while talking.
Beware of vent harassment! Although it's funny when it happens to someone else its rather annoying to experience it youself.
Too bad there is such a thing as a password-protected channel.
Well...I have it now.

You have been warned (but if I can't figure out how to use it, it's an empty threat...)
You got a deletion wish?
Is there a way to set the hotkey up as holding it down, release to stop?
That's how it is setup by default =p

I think I still have vent on here, I'll have to log on some time and chat (I'm pretty quiet, but I'll try to be at least a little social :P).
