I am just starting to record runs for this amazing website. I have a strange question that I could not find an answer to on the website after several days of searching. I am messing around with a game that is very short and has a feature that allows you to replay the game after you complete it by hitting a button. This allows you to get many more runs in without having to reset the game each time, hit start, type in your name,  and select the difficulty. In the case of this game the difficulty setting is glaringly obvious in the game play and anything before I hit B to start the game is totally irrelevant to the timing according to what I read in the rules section. My direct question is, can i just submit runs from the restart screen or do I have to include a fresh reset in the completed run. Thanks.

Flash game? If everything is the same as normally then you can just submit from the restart screen or from the first frame of gameplay.

If I get it right, the fear is that the run is invalid because the restart screen does not show the selected difficulty, you can only see it at a fresh reset.
But I imagine SDA believes in the runner's trustworthiness, plus if you say that the difficulty is obvious to detect, I see no problem here.

If the difficulty and other relevant settings are obvious, then it's fine as long as all actual timed gameplay is recorded.

Furthermore, you can even splice the intro/outro into runs in after-editing, unless that messes badly with audio or something.

I have an additional question. If I want to determine what the categories are for a particular game how would I go about doing that? Many of the games I am working on do not have runs on your website. Do I just post a thread with the game title for discussion?

If you can't find an existing thread about a game, sure, just create one. In that thread you can propose or discuss the categories that come into your mind.
I'm sure you already took a look at the knowledge base entry about categories. Those might help you.

Depends on the console you are running the game on. Either Newer Consoles, Older Consoles or PC Games board. The associated consoles are in the descriptions.
(Some people also post in the Casual Speedrunning board, but I would not recommend it)
