There seems to be a moderate amount of interest, so I'll go ahead and update this with real information about how this will be run, along with some other info.

SDA Blood Bowl League Season 1

What you will need:

Blood Bowl on PC, specifically the Legendary OR Chaos edition (both available on steam). Chaos edition will give you access to a couple extra teams, but people using Legendary edition will still be able to play you, so choose whichever you like.

A Skype account. We are going to have Skype be our method of direct communication between players unless I get a lot of people who want something else. I'm planning on having a list of everyone's skype accounts in this post when its time to start, but if people would rather have their skype accounts be private we can make a private thread. Please make sure to be logged into skype as regularly as you can so people can communicate. I'd also highly encourage players to use Skype while playing their matches, since it makes it a lot more interesting than playing with no communication, but I'm not going to make this a rule or anything.

Most of us seem to be using IRC to coordinate. I'd highly recommend joining #bloodbowl on irc.speeddemosarchive.com as it'll really help everyone stay organized. I will probably make this the 'official' method of organizing matches next season.

Knowledge of how to play. I don't expect everyone to be super elite players, but at the same time I expect everyone who joins to have working knowledge of the game before we start. There is a tutorial built into the game, but quite frankly it's not very detailed about what is going on. I'd direct you to read through the offical rulebook before diving into the league (you can also view this in-game under tutorial->competition rules. This is actually important, as it has come to my attention that some skills have minor differences. For instance, diving catch now gives a +1 to catching accurate passes). There's also cKnoor's guide, which I have watched through and is pretty informative, but probably won't help you much unless you've already played a game or two. You can also play some matches against the CPU, but I'll warn you that the CPU makes a lot of bad decisions and may teach you bad habits.

Some rules and specifics:

The first thing I want to put out there is that Blood Bowl is a really unforgiving game in many ways. BE PREPARED TO LOSE PLAYERS FROM YOUR TEAM AT THE DROP OF A HAT. Seriously, I've seen players DIE from attempting a go for it roll. BE PREPARED TO GET DICED. Some games you will just be destined to lose because the dice decide you are going to lose. It happens, and if you aren't prepared to play a game where those things happen, then please just don't join. If your team is SEVERELY crippled, I might allow re-rolls, but ASK BEFORE DOING.

To expand a bit, please don't join if you just don't have the time to commit to ~1 hour matches on a regular basis. I'm not completely sure how we will organize, but for now I'm going to leave it to the players to set matches with each other as opposed to forcing a time for matches.

Do not concede matches. Giving up screws up the way points are assigned really badly. I don't care if your entire team is injured, it will mess up your opponents future matches badly. If you start leaving matches, be prepared to not be playing.

If someones game crashes, alt-tab out of the program and kill the .exe manually. This confuses the game into thinking the game never started, and you can re-start it. Unfortunately there is no way to resume where you left off. If it happens really late in a game and you don't want to replay it, let me know and I can set the score manually. This will however, deny SPP from stuff that happened in game.

At least for our first season, make sure to join with a freshly generated team. I don't know if we will carry over teams from season to season (if we even go that long), but for us to start we absolutely must have a clean slate.

Scheduling:

The goal remains to complete each in game week in one real time week. The week will always end on Weds, and I'll end it when all the games are finished. If we somehow get a full week ahead, I will advance the schedule overall by a week, but otherwise the weeks will just have a few days of leeway.

Depending on demand, I may split us into American and European divisions to help with scheduling. I don't know that we'll have the demand for it, but please include that information so that its at least available.

The SDA freeplay league is now available. The league name is "SDA Freeplay League", and the password is "GoFast". You should be able to freely join/leave this league, and play matches at any time with anyone else in it, so go nuts.

The SDA speedplay league is being planned for sometime in the next couple weeks. If you are interested, please join the IRC channel, because you will need to use it so we can organize quickly and get through it in an afternoon. For reference, the speedplay league will have turns set to 40 second time limits, and only elf teams will be allowed.
Thread title:
i'd be alright with it
I'd love to try a league, win or lose, but for nuffles glory and body count when the worst happens.
I want off the ride....
Honestly, my friends had started to play blood bowl and it seems like something that could be interesting.

Especially if we can setup some matches as streams (which I'm sure will happen). I'll put my name down as something I can do, I dont own it atm, but I have seen it played and have been heavily debating on getting the pick up.

Timezones permitting, I'd be up for it Smiley

-Mayhaps a European and American league so one doesn't have to stay up really late to play matches against the other.
Getting horribly maimed repeatedly by RNG? I'm in!

It'd be up to the people playing if they wanted to stream matches. I would probably stream the matches I played, but it'd be up to everyone else to decide, especially since I have no idea if you can actually spectate matches.

At this point I'm extremely doubtful that we would have enough interest to split up that way. As far as scheduling, I'd probably go with a schedule of about 1 game per week, so it'd be up to players to organize between each other to find a time both are available.

By the way, I don't know if I mentioned this before, but if this goes through we are definitely doing random skills. We'll figure out how to do that when the time comes, but non-randomized skills results in really dumb teams (dwarves with guard everywhere are the things nightmares are made of)

I am assuming we would be playing Chaos Edition?  If so id be down
EDIT:  I forgot that I owned legendary edition too so im down for either
Terraffirmative!
Chaos edition is actually an expansion for legendary, both are compatible, chaos edition mainly just gets a few extra teams.
So it's ultra violent strategy football with dice rolls? o_o Why did no one tell me about this game sooner! I'd be up for getting the game and joining the league just to see how much blood I could draw mwahahaha :3 Problem is I can't commit to anything until May (moving at the end of this month)

Yes, I'm a wizard.
I have the game on steam and I've played a bunch of practice games with my friends. There is a spectator mode but it's sometimes a bit wonky, like everything else in the game.
Will definitely join an SDA league if one is made.

First post updated with some information. I am very interested in doing fast pickup league this weekend if at least 3 others are, hit me up on skype today if you'd like to participate in something like that.
I'm gonna be helping friends with an event during the day tomorrow and Sunday, but I'll be around in the evening if we want to do stuff then.
I can manage this weekend and next but I'll be offline between the 26-29th. Would prefer not to post my skype info in a public thread. Fine using it though as long as I'm not hosting the call Tongue

Also my 24 hour of newbie play tips... Hit G (enemy tackle zones), N (all player positions displayed) and Esc (turns off cinematic camera during enemy turn) when a match starts and mess with exhibition games in singleplayer to find a race you like. Should save you from all headaches except dice roll induced ones
A yt'er named cknoor, has a series of videos that give alot of detailed information on all aspects of bloodbowl that can really help if your unsure on anything. I hope links are allowed in posting, if not, then i'm sorry for linking and wont again. but http://www.youtube.com/user/cKnoor Beginners guide to blood bowl, hopefully this helps any who have it. I can also try to offer any help people want as well for questions and teams.

Some information updated in the first post.

I am planning on closing registration for the week-by-week league on Thursday so that we can get started on the weekend. I'm also planning on having an open play league separate so that everyone can just play pickup games at random. Keep in mind the week-by-week league team will be separate and only available for that.

Pjoxt also brought up the idea of having an IRC channel for organization, would people populate it if we had one on the SDA server? Otherwise, I'll create a private thread so that I can share everyone's skype info. I still highly encourage coaches to use skype during their matches, it adds a lot to the game IMO, but I won't enforce this as a rule or anything.
Here is my info

forum name: Gref
skype: GrefGP
Twitch: OGSimpson (just in case, probably won't stream)

I'm available most of the day on weekends with exception to real life stuff. Weekdays usually after 7pm I can play too.

Looking forward to this. I'm brand new and wanna dive right in.

I'm going to make a private thread with everyone's skype info as well as the info for the weekly league. After next Weds (4/24), I will close registration for that League and we'll start matches. Public league will remain open to everyone, but for those of you who wish to join, make sure you have actually joined the league in-game before that date or you will not be able to play in it.

Also, I'm going to go ahead and join #BloodBowl on the SDA irc, if people start using it we may change to this as our 'official' matchmaking channel.

And this is why I decided against using vampires. Sure they sound great at first but take out enough thrall and they start knocking themselves out of the game from failed bloodlust rolls...

Anyways as I said before I won't be here on that weekend but whenever I feel well enough to play again I'll enter the free league. Just gotta figure out which race I enjoy playing enough to start in there

I'll be watching intently. Am just too busy with essays and final preparation to commit to this. Maybe if there is a second season Smiley

None of those were bloodlust rolls btw those were all just me getting hit and sweltering heat

Just wanna say, I have signed up a doomed Team. When you sign your team up, you'll see my team and It should be pretty obvious. I'm going to lose a blitzer turn 1 on a block, i'm sure of it.

I'm in so long as it's matches over the week. Working in a call center for 9+ hours a day with very unstable days off, so I can't commit single days to just blasting through leagues.

Skype name is boringryu. USA region.
