I guess that dictates how many cores the game can access simultaneously. If the game isn't optimized for more than 2, maybe it's better to just "limit" it to 2.

I'm still not exactly sure if co-op is faster or not either. On some missions it allows you to prevent travelling as far since one player can way a the mission checkpoint and advance further into the mission. I'm trying to get a complete run done but so far from my segmented runs (just saving and quitting, not redoing any missions) takes about 4:20-4:30 in game time. If anyone wants to add me on Skype, feel free as we can discuss strategies, etc... When a get a complete run I will post my time here for anyone to compare it to.
@ddrosler, you completely overestimate the time. Cereth got a 4:29:18 on stream (http://www.twitch.tv/cereth/c/2204445). The run is heavily optimizable. I guess a rechable time would be close to 4h, maybe even sub 4 in the long run. Thankfully the game doesnt have too much RNG, which makes good runs feasible even with bromanluck Wink If I run this (I dont know if Ill be able to, 4h is a time I dont usually have time for in one piece >_<), I will run coop I guess, since I feel like it is faster and more interesting.
Skype: undertherainbowd ave
I'm starting to wonder if it might be a good/fun idea if there was a race between solo and coop some day, assuming coop doesn't gain a massive time advantage from there being two players. I suppose if there's a massive advantage for coop (in any% anyway, for 100% both players would have to pick up all the collectibles, so there probably wouldn't be a massive difference in time between solo and coop 100%) it may be an idea to classify the times separately. I'm probably going to run solo for 100% at least, and I don't really have many plans to do any% at this point, though if there are any% races I suppose I don't see any reason why I couldn't do it if I had the time to spare.

I'm not sure I'd call it RNG, but there's a lot of occasions where you need to rely on the AI to do something (Trafficking is probably the best example). I've lost minutes in trafficking before waiting for NPCs to get in the car, as they'd be ran over or shot at and waste a bunch of time.

I've also encountered 2 glitches from bad AI, one in Guardian Angel Kinzie, and the other in Heli Assault. The Guardian Angel glitch, the helicopter I was in actually crashed, which I think was caused by the helicopter following Kinzie on the ground, and Kinzie took a slight detour and got stuck on the grass from avoiding some traffic. After the helicopter crash I actually passed the mission but I'm not sure this is exploitable. The heli assault issue was Kinzie simply getting stuck in the car at the last point. She'd reverse and drive straight forward and crash into a wall over and over, and I had no choice but to fail and restart the mission, wasting 5+ minutes.

In regard to PC vs 360. I'm pretty sure PC will be faster from loading times, as well as aiming, unless the game has a decent auto-aim system or something. In which case PC with controller might be optimal.

100% is probably looking at a 10+ hour run with a lot of autoscrollers. Plenty of trafficking, guardian angel and heli assault to keep you busy Cheesy

I never looked into S+Q warps or deathwarps. I can't even remember where you go where you die, but I'm not sure they'd be much helpful anyway, it's too damn hard to die on casual. If they're useful though, it may actually become ideal to run normal difficulty just to die easier Grin

Good luck with the runs everyone Cheesy Nice to see some new interest
10+h? Wow that would be incredibly fast, I would have estimated it to be at least 20h or sth but without having done any testing whatsoever.
Skype: undertherainbowd ave
10+ hours for 100% sounds about right, just thinking about what needs to be done (I haven't done a whole lot of routing/testing yet) it looks like it'll be a 10-15 hour run depending on how long the autoscroller missions actually take. The collectibles don't actually seem to add all that much time, strangely enough, it seems like quite a few of them are more or less on routes to or during missions, except the rooftop ones, which will probably need the hoverbike to grab once it's unlocked. At least the insurance fraud missions are relatively easy, all you really need to do is the action jump with a ragdoll right in the middle of it to "superman" and just pick up quick and easy points there. I think my record time in an insurance fraud (during a casual playthrough on normal) was around 30-60 seconds, so it makes them a bit trivial in terms of difficulty. Tank mayhem is essentially the same, just drive around shooting at any traffic/peds/police and you make the goal reasonably quickly, although that relies reasonably heavily on RNG to get some nice clustered ped/traffic spawns if you want the absolute optimal time spent in mayhem or tank mayhem.

For any of the segments where it forces you to be on foot, doing the action jump does seem to be a quicker method of getting around than just running, so that's definitely something worth thinking about during runs, especially when you're going to get a car.

Another reasonably small thing I've found is that if you start driving off slowly before your forced homies have got into your car, they tend to either action jump an inordinate distance or just teleport straight into the car, although driving off too quickly will result in them running off to find a car of their own, which just wastes time. I don't think it would save a massive amount of time, but it does seem to overwrite any other AI behaviours and negate the problem Cereth had with the NPCs during the Trafficking missions. I'm not 100% sure how the NPC teleport works or how reliable it is, but I think it might be worth some investigation to see exactly how reliable or exploitable it actually is.
About insurance fraud: I once got stuck in a car and got hit by it like 100 times within a few seconds. The whole mission was done in a matter of seconds - this might require some testing; Getting this consistently would save quite a bit of time both in any% and 100%
Skype: undertherainbowd ave
If that was reliable, it would REALLY make insurance fraud trivial, that'd actually be insane time saved if it worked, especially in 100% where you need to do it 6 times.
After following speedrunes for months I found a game I wanted to try to run. Or at least help routing it. So hello everyone Cheesy

Actually I've been trying to beat act 1 w/o dying and have been looking on the places where missions of the act 2 start and end.

About insurance fraud my method usually is trying to get hit by a big truck and then try to get stuck in front of it or behind it if I have adrenaline. Also I managed yesterday that you can fall on a car that is stopped and move your character over it. That will get you money when the cars are stopped and I think it is pretty profitable but I havent tested it yet.
Totally rad

In co-op, one person can use a VTOL (which you'd use to fly to the mission location beforehand), fly up high, jump out and glitch into the ground. Your character will twitch around like crazy and you'll get a huge amount of money when your co-op partner helps you up.

Desi and I used to do this; it's not 100% reliable, but works most of the time.

This assumes you either have the DLC or have already unlocked the VTOL from the mission.

Problem is, I haven't found any way to get control of a vehicle in Trafficking (you're forced to be the passenger). So this rolling start method isn't useful here. Certainly useful elsewhere though Smiley
Hi I'm new to the forum and speed running really as well. I decided I wanted to speed run something and Saint's Row The third was the game I decided on.

I've been playing on Xbox 360 with it installed to HDD and at the moment I've only been working on the run up to getting Kinzie on Normal and that's around 1:10.xx - 1:15.xx . I intend on just using Cereth's route, but I'm really trying to explore if there are any possibilities of skips in the non-activity missions. I've been messing around with grenades a lot and very often in the right spots you can put yourself inside ceilings and walls. I'm not really sure where this is exploitable for the sake of speed running but I'm going to keep working on it.

The mission I've messed around with the most is the second half of the mission where you get Kinzie (Return to Steelport) and then you go to the BDSM club. I've been able to use this glitch(the car one)

during the mission reliably using 2 specific cars ( though I haven't tested all of them). These are the Solar and the Raycaster.
just drive up the left side and try to get the left tires on the concrete and the rest of the car on the door. I've also figured out that once you're inside while the enemies are all spawned, the point that activates the Zimos cutscene does not work even up to the part you grab the manager. After you grab the manager you can do it but it's just wasting time at that point when you can just run down the stairs.

I did figure out however that you can clip through the first door in there by dashing toward the corner and parachuting or sometimes managing to do the jump human shield grab on someone through the door while attempting the corner parachute. This whole thing is very risky though as sometimes you can just get stuck in the wall and have to reset the mission. Even after you get through the door you can get up to the door of the manager's room but you can't open it. I've tried to grenade clip through and it doesn't really work. You can get above the stairwell and I've managed to glitch Pierce into the room, but not myself. Once while grenade clipping I did get a prompt to open the door from the other side, but I missed it and haven't figured out how to do that again. It may be possible to skip the first sequence of grabbing people if this is possible as the manager is spawned but even after all that it might not be without the objective and it might not be consistent.

Well that ended up pretty long but I'm very interested in the possibility of grenade clipping to try to skip stuff. I'll probably try messing around with it in some more of the earlier missions soon, but just from the way the objectives were set up in the Zimos rescue mission makes me a little doubtful of even being able to skip anything. If not I think it's really just going to be about optimizing Cereth's route with stuff like save load warps, water warps and death warps or trying to figure out how to break the activity missions.
I think imma put myself to running this game aswell Smiley
But I have the dlc packs that are installed in the "Full package" version. Does anybody have a link to the patch Cereth talked about, to put the game back to the "vanilla" state?

Also, i've been trying out differents death warps, and they seem to put you back at the hospital corresponding to the part of the city you died in. Haven't tried out save warps though, I believe they bring you back to the penthouse but I have to test it out.
I'm fairly certain savewarps can be used in the run (especially when the VTOL is available) but I'm not sure about deathwarps considering how difficult it is to die on casual (unless you find a consistent, easy and quick way to kill yourself). I'm sure even with multiple vehicle explosions + grenades you'd still be alive. Especially if you get any health upgrades (I unlocked all the available health upgrades during Nyte Blayde's Return). Unless you intend on running a harder difficulty, I can't see deathwarps being useful.
So, i just got a new WR (4:13:12) using the dlcs, but not any skips in particular, i just couldn't install the patch to remove them.

As cereth said, it's possible to use the VTOL with the dlcs as soon as you unlock the penthouse. I'm probably gonna try out savewarps tomorrow or next week and depending on the outcome i'll probably try to plan a route with and without dlcs.

In the end we will probably have to create two separate categories for Using / Not Using dlcs.
Terrible at games
I'm really interested in getting a co-op run of this going, there's definitely going to be some awesome timesavers/optimization with that (i.e., instead of running across places to get to objectives/triggers, one can easily set up there while the other is fulfilling the previous objective. On my only co-op playthrough, I didn't notice much # of enemy change from single player (maybe I wasn't doing it right), so it might not be that hard. (Plus, the only objectives where that would really matter would be killing waves.)

Anyway, feel free to add me on Steam if you want to get that going. I'm going to get a friend to help me out so I can make a list of timesavers in that.

Hi,

I love this game and I decided to give a try to speedrun it (or at least try something like that).
Yesterday I got a 4:09:42, I saved Shaundi and the last split was the end of Gangtas in Space (not sure how faster would be the other ending, i always saved Shaundi).
This was without using any DLC vehicles but i have the DLCs so count a DLC spam at the beginning although you can actually move during the popups just can't open the door at the bottom of the stairs.
I used the skip at the helicopter part during the Ho Boat mission. Thanks Tyr and sellz90 to showing me this.
The game crashed only once during My name is Cyrus Temple mission but it was still a ~3 minute loss.

There are some minor tricks which could save a small amount of time (about 2-10 seconds) like jumping right before explosions on the planes, etc. which could be used after some practice.

Sub 4 is possible but sadly it highly depends on game crash and homie AI.

edit: add sellz90's name
Hey Ditto,

Good to see some interest in this game again, I'm the guy who came up with the heli strat. I'm more of a router than a runner, as I have neither the equipment nor the desire to stream or record runs, but I have been running this on and off for just under a year. For PB’s I use in game time and no DLC (As I run on xbox360) and they stand at any% SS 3:51 and 100% SS 8:01 though I can take a chunk of time off this.
http://s1261.photobucket.com/user/sellz4/media/100_4702.jpg.html

I have just got the any% route to what I feel is optimized using a strat I devised of taking some mission from their activities location rather than from the mission point allowing you to do them before they come up in the mission order cutting down on travel. Another upside of doing that means you skip 3 cutscene that you previously had to take.

So the route looks as follows:

1)When Good Heists
2)I’m free falling
3)Steelport here I am:.
4)Party time
5)Guardian angel
6)Trafficking
7)Tank Mayhem Taken from activities location
8)Professor Genki Taken from activities location
9)Takeover the city
10)We’ve only just begun
11)Hit the powder room
12)Belgian problem
13)Return to steelport Take car from garage in penthouse menu
14)Insurance fraud: Take from activity locations so you don’t have to watch cut scene
15)Trail Blazing
16)Eye of the tiger end as close to the gym as possible to get a spawn next to it at the end of the mission
17)Trogon Whores (may seem weird doing this mission here but it save 20ish sec as you don’t have to jump off building to start mission and you don’t have use elevator to get heli for snatch)
18)Snatch Take from activity locations so you don’t have to watch cut scene use heli for mission
19)Ho trafficking fly heli to mission
20)Escort Save + load to warp after mission
21)Painting the picture
22)Pimp up hoes down take heli from safeword after mission and fly to next mission
23)Heli Assault Taken from activities location
Your position at the end of the mission determines where you spawn after it so as kenzi goes to last point fly to the mayhem activities location start
24)Mayhem Taken from activities location
25)Cyber Blazing Taken from activities location
26)The ho boat after mission take the heli form safe word and fly to next mission
27)Guardian angel
28)Gangbang
29)Convoy decoy
30)Stag party fly vtol to next missions
31)Phone phreaks
32)Live with kilbane save load after mission then use vtol for next mission
33)Learning computers
34)Stop all the downloading
35)http
36)Stillwaters blue
37)My name is cyrus temple
38)Airsteel port:
39)Zombie attack:
40)Remote start:
41)3 count beat down
42)Murderbrawl
43Three way use vtol for the mission
44)Take the kill kilbane route after killing Killbane save then load rather than taking the plane. You will be at safeword crib take the vtol (I found that without these it is just as quick to do other ending)don’t drive to the crib just take the vtol you park in front of the mission marker

A few other things that I have come up with is 3 save loads to cut travel, using the heli strats at 2 point (The ho boat and Kenzi’s Guardian angel), using spawn point manipulation twice by ending previous mission in desired locations, skipping following Oleg break doors in Belgian problem by running ahead and shooting them with the pistol to break them and Doing the barnstorm to the right of the bridge through the chimneys during the heli chase in Party time allowing you to have the fully upgrade pistol at the beginning of Takeover the city

Hope this helps I also have set points on where to pick up upgrades and ammo stops as well if anyone request these I will share, though they tend to be preference driven rather that strat driven.

And a full 100% route if anyone wants this again ask and I’ll share
Oh it was you. I will edit my previous post to put your name there:)

My ingame time was 3:52, damn Smiley

That's a really insteresting route. I haven't thought you can complete a mission by doing it from the activity and not the missions menu.
You forgot 'Nyte Blade'S Return' from the list i guess.
I'll deffinitely try it sometime, right now i quite happy with this time and want to try out Saints Row IV too.

For the heli trick on Kinzie's mission. When do you do that? Right after the sniper part ended and you are climbing back to the heli? I tried it a dozen time, different timings and places and every time when i dismissed the pilot the heli fell down, crashed into the ground and i failed the mission. It was no problem at the Ho Boat but somehow it didn't work for me at Kinzie's mission. Maybe my timing was wrong.

There's a chance that you can skip the camera shaking at the beginning after you beat the first guy with the pistol on Philippe's plane. If you run through the door and jump down sometimes you just teleport right after that minicutscene and you are free to run forward. That could save like 2-3 seconds but only happened me like 2 times out of 10 and not sure yet how can you trigger it.

During 'stop the downloading' when you need to turn off the routers you can actually skip each hacking process with a well timed jump right after you start it. This can save like 2 seconds per hack i guess.

The last two happened me randomly and need to find out how to do them properly but if they happened once that means you can do it again Smiley

Also i think running the game on the lowest graphics settings can slightly speed up the loading time ecpecially between cutscenes. But the game will be ugly Sad

That is strange there is a slim possibility is a console only trick but I doubt it if the ho boat one works. I have 2 questions
1) When the heli crashes what do you fail the mission for? Do you die in the crash?
2) If you do die in the crash what health upgrades do you have at that point? I will have both health upgrade and regen 1 at this point it may be having them what is saving me from the crash.

Yer I found that too every time that camera shake happens if you are in the diving animation it skips the shake.

I have had something similar in that while I’m doing a hack an enemy hit you with a melee attack cancelling the hack but it is luck based for them to do so and for 2 secs 4 times over a 4hour+ game it is hardly worth over worrying about it.

I have watch parts of your PB run (congrates BTW) in the last mission you take the save Shaundi route while most other will take the kill Killbane route.
What I have found is that if done correctly both missions will take 15mins including set up and doing 3 way with the VTOL.
While I would personally go the killbane route as the final fight with Cyrus is more consistent than the final fight with killbane if you are set on doing that ending the difference is minimal.

1) I believe it was because i died. The helicopter just simply lands or do some weird "trick" like a pro backflip before landing then it catches fire and explodes. It's an instant death. Weird thing that it actually takes some time to burn and explode but after the explosion you die.
2) I don't remember what did I have when i tried it. But not sure you can survive due it's an instant death for explosion but will check it sometime for precise information.

Yeah I should try and practice the Killbane route too but I just couldn't leave Shaundi Sad I know that's not the mentality i need for a speedrun due it might not be the faster way but I can't help it at the moment.
Hi

Last time I finally got a sub4 (3:52:40) using sellz's route and a couple more tricks.
We discussed that this time still can be improved and 3:35 would be possible with a close perfect run.
Still working on driving routes to avoid using the GPS as much as possible and find more shortcuts.
Getting a good car during steelport here i am is RNG based. Peacemaker is a solid choice (maybe the best to avoid the stupid AI cuz the 4 seats) but the vortex/temptress is the best available car at that point (maybe an attrazione if you are blessed by the RNG Gods). This should require a reset to get the best option as possible to continue.
My personal problem was a game crash during or after My Name is Cyrus Temple and my solution was just a game reset to avoid it but it still costs 1-2 minutes. I'm running the Dx9 version due OBS somehow can't handle the Dx10&11, or i don't know how to set it up.
And we still trying to find out how to get the skip during Kinzie's guardian angel but we need to try it without DLCs first or even with a previous version of the game (no DLC can save about 30 seconds due no spam at the beginning).
The rest is pretty much every little thing like no bad traffic rng, minimal waste of bullets and high accuracy, no bad AI pathing and optimal upgrade time with only the neccessary picks.

If we don't count the perfect run still a ~3:45 time is highly possible.
Eat lead!
Hey Ditto, could you explain that helicopter skip on Ho Boat? I watched that part in your run and I'm not sure what you did.

Oh, and congrats on sub 4!

As soon you got on the helicopter recruit the homie and to dismiss him immediately. With this you will recruit the driver of the heli and as soon as you dismiss him the heli will fall into the water due noone will drive it and somehow the game thinks that you completed that part of the mission.
On Xbox you can also do this during Kinzie's Guardian Angel mission to skip the first part. Sadly it doesn't work with the PC version.
