Joke of all trades
I was just wondering why you can only find runs by either searching or by console, could features be added so that i could search all "platformers" or "runs without death" and the whole bunch of other game genres and specific rules.

It just seems like the system is a bit limited, gamefaqs have subgenres, tasvideos have sub genres, sda does not.

thoughts?
Thread title:
makes sense.
Sounds like a 2.0 kinda thing.
Jumping Turtle
Can't you just make a button that says "give everything a genre and sort by that genre"?
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
Good idea, already happening, thanks.

It all seems silly to me (I don't use anything other than the full game list anyway) but I think the internet in general is silly and people seem to like it. I just hope people are accepting of how stuff is implemented. It's impossible to do anything that fits what everyone expects. Also what people want and what people say they want is usually completely different, and they don't even know it.
yeah, and difficult to discover the former over the internet except by an extended period of trial and error that no corporation would ever attempt let alone sda.

i'm still going to try with anri though.

actually i am only looking for games i know... so i just need the title of the game. but if i look for death abuse speedruns, i get e.g. Zelda for the GC and i dont know ALL Series of Zelda only LttP... so watching a speedrun of a game you dont really know and understand is in my opinion senseless, because you didnt get the trick or the difficulty of the trick etc.

so a category like death abuse is just a waste of time for the admins who has better things to do. no to forget we got 400 speedruns here and i think everybody found and will find his game here. SDA needs just a newer fresher homepage.
Not black, blue color... We need some nicer colors and some gifs like from Super Mario etc.

really nice happy page XD with a plane flying arounnnnd XDDDD. That is more important to get more people on this site. Not new and more categories where newer people get confused.

Simplicity and readability > Bright colors and fancy page gimmicks
Royalty-free text and images > GIFs of copyrighted characters, sometimes ripped from illegal ROMs

If you want genius pull-em-in site design, go to a fast food chain's page. We like simple, presentable content that works for everyone and doesn't look unnecessarily child-friendly, super-happy-fun-time, or bells and whistles. When features like database-driven searches are added, they will follow the trend of accessibility and content-rich.

That, and everyone would think we totally ripped the mario GIF from TASvideos Wink

So yeah. Maybe a bright pastel skin could happen, but I can't imagine it ever being the default. Not the look and feel SDA's going for.
i wonder what will happen when socialism triumphs and sda's no longer 'underground.' i'm afraid it may be the same thing that happened to apple's user interface where everyone thinks of computers as having that interface now.

or maybe white on black will always be 'underground.'
Hi! I'm andrewg!
This site is very nice to the eyes at 1AM. Please don't change it to a white backround. heh

lol... yeah, many sites that focus on content use a background that's at least not white. They're starting to use off-whites and grays.

It's a question of inversion of lights and darks, which some people seem to have trouble with, along with the everyday real-life standard of dark text on light background. Meanwhile, television uses mostly bright text on dark background, and no one says a word. Maybe once monitors start getting super-bright as they've been lately, people will learn that contrast is all that matters, and eyestrain sucks.

Ironically enough, whenever I see an ink-and-paper example of light text on dark background, I just think "damn what a waste of ink".
