I would say option 2 aswell as I know people already have planned their vacation/trip for rpglb, also with option 1 as other people say means a whole new submission has to be done for the runners who can make option 2 but not option 1 due to finals of work schedule.

Either way i'm trying to get there but my preference in thinking about the runners would be option 2
I can only do option 2. I'm lucky enough to have gotten time off from work since literally every other week in May was already booked with vacations by the time I started working there a month ago. That said my travel is also dependant on Ghoul who offered to help me pay for my flight from the EU, so I can't say I'm 100% going to be able to attend regardless. If option 1 ends up being better for the marathon and staff I can only respect that decision, but figured I'd give my 2 cents.

I am for the 1st  option. It would be a lot more convenient (maybe just for me) since I have finals on the 13-19 (I will still be there if run gets in) (If the event is on the second option, I can't make it till the seventeenth due to graduation for my brother)

Option 1 would be my preference as well. For time off purposes for me it wouldn't matter but I think Option 1 would be overall best for the marathon
There's absolutely no way to get that day back? You'd think a group that's generating so much revenue for the hotel would have a little bit of clout.
I would say Option 1 might work better with me in terms of getting time off work and planning my trip, however, I'm not against Option 2 if it helps other folks that have their trips scheduled already.
Option 1 would be ideal. Going through the weekend seems to be a big deal as for fundraising, which is naturally a crucial factor for the event.

Both options wouldn't affect my attendance too much, but if I had to choose I'll lean towards Option 1.

Either way is fine with me, but for the sake of the marathon and donation potential, option 1 seems the best.
I don't see the difference as being relevant to me since it does not appear that I will be able to attend either way.

I might be slightly more able to attend if we go for Option 2.

I will also opine that it's unclear if Saturday is simply a profitable day for marathons, or if it was profitable due to being the finale. Would the 14th be super profitable? Would the 19th simply be very profitable? I'm inclined to agree with Puwexil's line of thought for $ but postulate that it's not quite as cut and dry as one may think.
I read bowie's argument on discord, and was rather swayed away from option 1 and am slightly in favor of option 2 now.

Here is his argument, copied from discord.

My two pennies (Yeah, I said it!)

Option 1 is better for the overall running of the event as the get in and get out are far easier and less pressured.
Option 2 is better for the general community as it allows for more runs and more time for people to be together.

RPGLB to me is a charity marathon as well as a much more community focused event than other larger marathons. That may or may not be what it is to others or to the staff.
I would vie for Option 2 just so I can hang out with everyone a little more, but I wholeheartedly respect the necessity of Option 1 and would get behind that as well; The get in/out is very important and shouldn't really be rushed, either.

As for the saturday finale thing, I'm not sure it necessarily being a Saturday is why that happens, over it just being the final day.
I am able to attend both options, but here are my thoughts on the options after sitting on it for a day or so. These options sway toward one direction or the other:

Option 1 favors the idea that this marathon is charity/viewers first, community event second. The timing works to be on dates of a more traditional marathon, ending on a Saturday where, in big events, nearly half of the total donations come on that last day. Viewers have caught little chunks here and there during the week and, knowing that it will end on the weekend, they tune in a bunch on that last day and donate as well. The event ends well, the majority of people that have tuned in can catch the last 12 hours or so of the event, and everyone wins.

Option 2 favors the idea that this is a community event first, charity event second. The dates don't adjust too much and favor the attendees and game submitters that have already planned out blocks of time to attend. You have a slightly longer marathon with a slightly weaker ending day. Perhaps the longer event will offset the slightly weaker ending day in terms of donations, but without seeing any data, one would assume the strong Saturday ending would result in more donations regardless.

I can honestly see the benefits of both options and I can 100% understand why either one might be chosen over the other.

Neerrm if it was simply as easy as that we would have already done it. Believe me when the fit hit the shan NONE of us saw it coming. We literally got blindsided without any warning.
I always prefer longer marathons but TBH I tend to opt to whichever is easier for those that are planning said event. I could never plan an event of this magnitude and respect the staff immensely for pulling this off; that being said, whichever is better for you, the staff, I think is the better option, though, like I said, I'm not opposed to longer marathons because, more experience, exposure, etc etc. More runs!

Literally speaking... literally...
I'm only a viewer, not an attendee. But still I would prefer option 2 as I had to schedule my holidays already and won't be able to watch or participate in chat if option 1 was chosen.

I know I'm currently speaking only for myself but consider other ppl in my shoes, who had to plan free time ahead of time.

I  will personally say that option 1 is impossible for me also (planning international travel is hard sometimes), but I am fine with not attending if option 1 will help the marathon overall.  Also, I know how difficult situations with hotels can be, I had something similar happen last year when we set up our Ohio marathon, and that was only a 2 day event.  Don't sweat it, we all know that you're doing the best you can.
Selfishly I prefer 2. As my birthday would be during those dates, but I'm good for either.
bichGOAL
My attendance was going to be Wednesday night through end. What this means is that I am there for just over 2 days for option 2, and just over 3 days for option 1. While option 1 makes things nicer for dear ol' bich, at the end of the day, I still attend either way.
For me, option 2 is where I sit. As it stood before, after take my exam with the state on the 20th I was going to catch the first flight I could buy on the spot and head there for one day . Now , I can spend more time there. The second option would give me more time during the event proper, and the runners who already bought their hotels and flights, and can't change them, will be there. Option 1 will inconvenience too many people and cost folks financially in order to attend as they already planned. Really sucks that they've done this to you guys, but I think the marathon as a whole benefits more by more people who have been hyping the trip and event being able to attend as planned. The community is strong enough that we can turn a Friday ending into a huge success. I can't go back and proof read this so if auto correct changed something, I apologize.
B O O K A
I see other people share my problem. I have class on the 9th and the 11th, with finals ending on the 12th, which means I can't go if option 1 is chosen even if I want to attend for only a couple of days, so option 2 is the only way I can make it out to the event. I respect either decision though of course, especially if option 1 would benefit the charity.
I think going with option 1 would be the better option as well.  The Saturday is important for being the closing day!
Professional Second Banana
After reading through your feedback and having numerous meetings and conversations among staff, we’ve decided to go with Option 2 (marathon runs evening of May 13 until evening of May 19).  The 2 main reasons for the decision were:

1. Almost all people that could make Option 1 could also make Option 2, whereas the reverse wasn’t true (many people that favored Option 2 would be unable to attend the Option 1 dates, or would be financially impacted to do so).
2. While ending the marathon on a Friday instead of Saturday is a concern for donation potential, we feel that can be somewhat mitigated in how we build the game list/schedule (and make use of the extra hours we’ll have).  Weighed against the very definite problems that Option 1 will cause for runner/community attendance, we’re willing to take a risk on a Friday finale - if we do end up hurting for donations, then we’ll for sure be going back to a Saturday finale in 2018.

We'll also be doing our best to plan out setup/teardown and make them as efficient as possible due to the shorter timeframe, and will be counting on attendees to help out where they can (especially with teardown, where we'll be needing to move all of the TVs).

RPGLB staff is currently working on finalizing/signing the venue contract, after which we’ll give the go ahead to start making travel arrangements again (hopefully sometime within the next 1-2 weeks).  We as staff are grateful for everyone’s understanding and feedback as we work through this, and learn lessons to make this a smoother process for everyone next year.
Stay chill, be cool.
I know this was a difficult mission to make, but those make a really good case for Option 2 and I'm fully behind you and everyone else organizing this marathon.

Do whatcha can guys and gals, hopefully next year goes a bit more smoothly with the reservations. This will regardless be a good learning experience to see just how much ending on a Saturday vs Friday has as an impact for future marathon scheduling. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the event thumbsup
We are Germench! We are Rummel!
So, with the finale date realized, I think that this a good opportunity to ask, wether Germench can again restream RPGLB this year? We have restreamed the last two RPGLBs for the German-Speaking Audience and many members of us are fans of the marathon. So it would be an honor for us, if we could again receive the restreamingrights. Thanks.
