Yeah, those projectiles get rather distracting at the end of the run. You're welcome to try and beat my time, though. Tongue

meh, you know, busy with MMV and such... Cheesy
Looky, PreddY! I made a little something for you...

Luste in 2:02.49 (as Spiritia). Do it properly and it's sub-2 minutes for sure!

nice indeed.

but cant you work on your Grolla run instead? I am really waiting and crying for it...
Well, I was just thinking over your run and I got some ideas, so I thought, why not share?

I figured out a way to beat Grolla faster, too. Grolla's stage beaten in 2:41.24 (see below); I'm pretty sure 2:38 is possible, since I made some notable mistakes during the stage.

I've been looking into the Grolla mode run, too, but I decided to start with Sichte and I'm having trouble with smoothening it out. My current record is 1:39.55, but it has some mistakes and doesn't take out the turtle in a single pass, so I want to do better than that. The energy usage isn't optimal, either, because I start the boss fight with almost full energy.

I could go for a SS, too, but that takes time to finish, of course.

Oh yeah, I figured out a few other things just now, too. First off, the same thing, which I did with the Grolla fight, can be done in Freudia's rebattle.

Also, remember that pesky "magnetic block" room in Iris 1 wherein you always had trouble getting past quickly? Well, you can cross the room in three seconds if you activate Geister Wand before going into the room and activating Zwei just after entering the room. Now, hop onto Zwei, let it carry you across the room and jump just as you're reaching the border of the room. You get to the next room from a lower position and kill the Met-alike instantly. It's a lot faster and a lot easier.

I tried to see if I could cancel Liebes Strum in the Mold Devil battle via menu cancel, but that didn't work out so well, because the after effects prevent you from using LS quickly enough. With proper timing one might get a second hit with another weapon, but it'd be difficult and I'm not sure if it can save any extra time.
I improved your Trauare segment by about 13 seconds, PreddY (1'53"23; includes Lilli, of course). Let's just say I found better use for Zwei this time around.

I think I'll look further into how many improvements I can find. I'm thinking there's over 60 seconds to be saved at the very least.

Also, when I get around to do that Grolla run, it'll definitely be single segment. Optimizing a segmented run is a pain and SS allows some minor leeway in that regard.

Oh, and concerning the post above, using Geister Wand is unnecessary to pull off the stunt. Just jump over the met.

I noticed something interesting with Grolla. Her dash slash is more effective than her normal slash (this I knew before, though) or regular charged slash. In some situations it's even more powerful than her desperation charged slash (ie. you're close to death when doing that). For example, dash slash does 2 damage per hit against Iris in the last Iris battle, making it stronger than anything else. Since you can hit Iris twice during a phase, it means you can do a whopping four damage per phase (though it does requires Iris to appear in reachable spots), meaning you can kill her in record time.

Normally desperation charged slash does four damage against bosses and dash slash does three, which means after the initial hit all slashes should be dash slashes, since you don't need to recharge it. This is especially useful against Sichte, Zorne, Liebea and Grolla's miniboss, to name a few examples.

I just have to wonder why I haven't realized dash slash's full potential before...

Oh, and the lower path might be actually faster than the higher one with Grolla in Sepperin 4, though I'm not absolutely certain of this... I'll need to count the difference. Anyway, the lower path can be done really fast with Grolla.

That is all.

Edit: I forgot to mention, but I discovered a little while back that swinging your sword can cancel the celebration hop if you're in the center while doing that.

My current "record" is about 42 minutes, which means the time to aim for is closer to 30-34 minutes, seeing I used a few continues and overall had some rather embarassing moments at times. Iris avoided me maybe more than ten phases, too. In relation to before, it seems not all slash dash hits inflict 2 damage to Iris. I wonder what's that about...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Bit of an RKS fan here myself, and a bit curious. I saw what I assumed was the run, but from what I saw it wasn't a single run of the game. It was several replay files played in sequence, aside from the castles where you can't use a password. Is this allowed? I figured a legitimate speedrun of RKS would consist of a single replay file without any breaks between the stages. I was a bit curious why I kept seeing the timer for the replay reset between nearly every stage...
It's a valid method of segmentation, and it's listed as a segmented run, so it's legit as far as SDA is concerned. I assume PreddY told Nate to combine the videos for easier watching.

A single-segment run would work as you described, though.

My newest record on SS Grolla mode is about 39 and a half minutes. I still use one continue and it has six deaths, so I think the goal between 30 and 34 minutes should be a fairly good time to aim for. I see it when I get there, though. The best thing about running a game like this is that every try can be turned into a submittable run and that I'll know exactly how fast my current record is.

I'll attach the replay so you can tell me if you have some new ideas concerning anything. I play the lower path in Sepp 4 this time, but I'm still not sure which way is faster... at any rate, the Mold Devil fight went exceptionally well this time around.

Impressive, dude!

- mistake on spear thrower in Sichte, Sichte fight rocks
- WOW on Freudia fight
- could it be possible to kill Grolla miniboss from the left platform maybe?
- rofl at Trauare again, just got to get the miniboss like that in the first go Smiley
- that mistake on Liebeas stage, the jump there ^^
- maybe its faster to crash into the statue in Liebea? or will that kill you right there?
- meh, your crosswall fight in that challenge was way better, why not do it that way? Wink 2nd one was way better with dodging the greenies
- im sure you can do Poltergeist without a can, right? at least it nearly looked like it Smiley
- nice strategy on Reaper!
- wow, i actually never took the lower path in sepp4 ^^ but it looks faster than the top one for Grollar
- it looked faster to take the normal route on that iris1 block puzzle than to wait for the blocks to take that new lower path
- Sad desperation can Sad

- overall nice abuse of stronger dash slash ^^

gonna watch rest later...
Well then... surprise surprise, progress! Current record: 35'24"11. Still three deaths, used one continue (curiously, they were mostly silly screw ups, died on spikes in both Trauare's stage and Sepperin 4). I used a few more cross cans than I should've, too. There's still ways to go, but I'm getting there.

- is that a trick or a feature, when u slash before Grolla should jump after a boss kill?
- shouldnt be dash-jumping be faster on snow?
- wow, no Sepp tele and no e-can there ^^

keep up the good work, 4 min improvement alrdy Smiley u and rks = <3

btw, are you playing with the Grollschwert mod? Cheesy
Quote from PreddY:
- could it be possible to kill Grolla miniboss from the left platform maybe?

I doubt it. Charged slashed might reach it, but that wouldn't help since I don't have enough time to charge them.

Quote:
- maybe its faster to crash into the statue in Liebea? or will that kill you right there?

It would be faster, but it means I can take only one hit on the compactors. I usually tend to screw that up in one way or another.

Quote from PreddY:
- is that a trick or a feature, when u slash before Grolla should jump after a boss kill?

It's a trick; doing ground slashes restricts Grolla's movement, thus disabling her from jumping. You need to be near the center and fact the center to pull it off. It saves a little time on every fight, especially after the underwater Trauare fight, as Grolla teleports immediately instead of dropping down first.

Quote:
- shouldnt be dash-jumping be faster on snow?

No, perma-dashing is definitely faster. However, if one fails to do that, it's considerably slower.

Quote:

No. I keep the game as close to the original as possible in the slight off-change that those mods would introduce new glitches or that the replays would desync. That's why I'm not going to use the translation, either, at least for now.

bah, im using the Grollschwert mod to view your replays, and it works fine. and that red bigass sword just looks so much cooler than that normal sword she has Smiley
Fucking Weeaboo
I must say, it's starting to look good.  Especially since this game is a bitch to run. ^^;;

Thanks, VG.

Improved about 40 seconds by dying less. Made it all the way to Iris 1 without dying... then things got worse. The level of play isn't as good in some parts, either, as not dying gave me pressure and I wussed out on Sepperin 4's beginning shaft, for example. I grew tired & frustrated with Trauare's stage because I kept dying there on those spikes, so I moved it as my first stage.

Also, in this run Iris Machine pull a cheap shot on me. I saw it coming and I tried to access weapon menu for a cross tank refill, but...

I hate it how the game can just lag 10-15 frames occasionally for no apparent reason, effectively killing me if I'm doing something that requires precise timing.

thats what bothered me when trying that Sepp3 move the most Cheesy within the sliding in sepp3 and sepp4 spike avoiding...

keep it going, ur god in this game, so you will succeed!
Visually Appealing
i laughed at your Raimund fight.

keep at it, Rokugo. you're kicking ass.
I found a few new things, first & foremost being the new strategy vs. Spiritia.

The replay file doesn't take damage because I wanted it that way, but you can still see how it would work in a speed run. It might be faster if you took damage to get up the same wall, too.

Secondly, the Spider is vulnerable from the instant he enters the screen, meaning you can attack him while he's shooting those small spiders, for example. Should be fairly useful... I'm not sure if Spiritia can take advantage of it at all, though. Does Liebes Sturm work vs. Spider?

Grolla mode in 32:59.06, single-segment, no deaths.

Although I had some problems with lag spikes, elusive Iris and a controller that's about to fall apart any day now, I'm satisfied because it's a deathless all-around improvement to my last record and because I managed to pull off a few things I never managed to before.

Enjoy the show.

GREAT THANKS A LOT!!! NOW I NEED TO REDOWNLOAD THE GAME TO WATCH IT!!!

But seriously, good job! I wanted to see a Grolla run since the Spiritua one came out. I kinda thought it might of been a bit more faster but then again Grolla has harder boss fights if I remember right.
Hope rides alone.
hm, 1.06a did fix that issue for me Smiley so here are some comments:

wasnt that final charge slash on freudia a bit late?

nice liebea compactor handling!

that looked kinda lucky on sepp3 boss ^^

sepperin marvelous!

nice spider fight, with a bit more luck you couldve spared that tank right?

woah, that looked SO close on the spikes in iris2 ^^

hm yellow devil was expected to be hard, but still done well!
