Apparently there is a bit of a speedrunning community for these two games on GameFAQs. The problem is there are no videos or walkthroughs or tips or much of anything available.

I'm not even sure if I want to try it, but I've been playing RS2 for the GC a little and it's kinda fun. I was thinking of maybe doing a SS on it...I don't understand how they get these times, though. Like Hoth, for example...I get maybe 4:00 and they get half that with no problem.

I'm sure there are tricks to killing TIE fighters quickly but I don't know them...they tend to turn and evade my fire pretty easily. Even the dumb bombers.

I know there are tricks where you kill yourself to get new ammo/position (like when you kill a star destroyer in Razor). I'm sure Radix will love that.

I don't own RS1, although I think I liked it more than I do its sequel...so many nice levels. In RS2 I only really enjoy the death star/trench run, hoth, RR, Kothlis, Endor, and attack the core. Everything else is just BLEEEEHHH.

Any knowledgeable people out there?
Thread title:
Hey. I was working on a run of Rogue Leader a while back, but I stopped at Battle of Hoth because my capture card hated the sun shining on the snow. It would've hated the snow anyway, but the sun made it worse.

I don't remember my times exactly, but they were probably way over their times (whatever they are). I think I had around 6:58 on Death Star Attack, but I'm not sure.

It would be something fun to do, and I like Rogue Leader more than Rogue Squadron. Those cursed missile launchers were pure evil.

For me though, it would have to wait until I buy that USB capture device I want. I'm hoping it doesn't have wash-out issues.

Well, here is their time page. You can see a huge topic of random flaming between e-thugs and drawn out e-penis battles with a disturbing lack of any strategy at the appropriate GameFAQ forum here (pick your game).

Hey. Those Rogue Leader times were crazy, especially Revenge on Yavin and the Battle of Endor.  Shocked

I don't really see how they did Battle of Endor in the Tie Advanced though. It doesn't have any shields, so the Imperial Cruisers would rip you to shreds.

I'm thinking there was at least one death (on purpose) during Revenge on Yavin, probably right before the scene with the transports escaping...if you can wait that long.

I'm definitely outclassed by these guys, but then again, there's no real proof on those mission times (I believe them though).

If you decide to do a Rogue Leader run, I'd be glad to help with tips and stuff. I just need to get my game back...  Grin

I think it would be better to time attack this game first though, since you can use any ship with all the upgrades (hello seeking cluster missiles).

Wouldn't that require a Cheat? As far as I am aware, it is only possible otherwise to use the TIE Advanced while playing as Darth Vader, which can only happen in two Missions, neither of which is Battle Of Endor.

Hey. You can use it as a reward for getting gold medals on all levels I think.

[Edit]: Quoted from RogueLeader2's "Playable Craft FAQ" (on GameFAQs): "Simply obtain all gold medals on all 15 levels and beat Tatooine Training at all four times."

No, you can use the Tie Advanced X1 once you get Golds on every mission....

NOTE: I finally got my ACE:Endurance.... now I'm done.... yay

Battle of Endor is EASY with the tie advanced.... blast with Seekers until part 1 is done then RAM both Star Destroyers and seeker kill remaining targets.... I've done it in under 3: before that way (I used a glitch to make the Bombers spawn right away by setting the clock to 11:58.... when the Day shift occurs for the Imperial Heist problems happen in other levels SOMETIMES NOT ALWAYS)... try it out if you have the patients.... I've only done it once
Hey. Congratulations on Endurance, I haven't put in a real effort to beat it on Ace Mode yet. It's torture to be in a level that freaking long (I know about pause breaks though).

As for Battle of Endor, I have three problems (Ace Mode):

1. Surviving the first attack in the TIE Advanced (whether it be Darth Bob or super accurate lasers).

2. The Redemption is too puny, so I usually don't move fast enough.

3. Even if I made it to the second part, how in the world do you dodge the lasers on your way to suicide against the cruisers? O_O

I think I remember "Darth Bob" -- he's the quintessential TIE that always purposefully suicide crashes into you...GameFAQs joke, right?
Hey. Yeah, I think I got that from bruplex's "Gold Medal FAQ".  Grin

Here's a Trick... U-turn and head STRAIGHT into the fury of the TIEs..... head for the centre most group aiming at the left most tie of the flight group (FG) on the right.... as soon as you pass it turn right and Kill as many targets of opprotunity as possible.... then hold L and R and Turn Left RAPIDLY for about 12 seconds... then set a collision coarse for the Redemtion..... fake out at the last moment and start Wheeling around the "wing-flaps" on the back..... nearly half of the chasing ties should crash.....

Also, for dodging the ISD lasers (BTW, those 2 ships are the ISD Rage and the ISD Wasp..... no, just kidding).... come in from underneath and behind and move towards the bridge section from a strong angle ..... like
(this is the bridge of the ISD)

  0  0
  /x/
/        <---then move here at full speed and make a
///////            SHARP turn into the Bridge and SPEED
                        Into it

                      XX-start here.... from behind.....

WHY: by coming up from the side the rear lasers are blocked by the main reactor and the top lasers are blocked by the bridge itself..... you will take hits during the last turn.... but not as many as if you just flew straight

Hope that helps

BTW:..... enemy TIES have a lower flight ceiling than you.... FLY straight UP if you need to escape

Hey. I tried that strategy today, but I don't do the first part correctly (I re-read that part about where to aim, and I see what I was doing wrong now). I did make it to the second part though, so that's progress.

I couldn't get the Star Destroyer ramming thing to work on the left one, but I only tried it twice. The first time I got sucked in by the pull of the ship (that or it was moving forward) and died.

The second time I rammed into the weak spot, but it did nothing. Do you need to destroy the top shield generators first?

I don't play the game anymore though (2 Ace medals short of them all, Endurance being the other one), but thanks for the help.

Who knows, I may just get back into it, for the last two medals...though I don't look forward to Endurance at all.  Cry
