Thought I would bump this thread since I have started working on a SS run (normal). I don't want to do easy because it won't be as impressive and I don't want to do hard because I like not dying Tongue

Some of my notes/times:

Mission 1 Part 1 easy peasy. 1:13 is my pb here. I can get it pretty consistently too.

Mission 1 Part 2 I have only gotten the 4 required kills at the beginning (where the radio room is) and have adjusted my run of this part in case I don't get the AI cooperation that I want. Loses maybe 30 seconds :/

Mission 1 Part 3 picked up one trick that is fast then Khans run but only by about a second. Then it comes down to if I make the jump at the end of the rail if I can keep that second or lose 2.

Mission 2 Not too difficult. I grab the dynamite because it makes the boss at the end of this Mission Easy mode.

Mission 4 Part 2 Best level EVER

Mission 4 Part 3 Fuck this level... Seriously fuck it.

Mission 4 Part 4 The two tricks on this level are balls to the wall (literally!) The first trick jump I can make and still saves time/ is safer then going through normally. The 2nd I can't do to save my life. I have been trick jumping in this game forever and thats one jump I could never make so I go through normally lose maybe 30 seconds by doing so but its better then wasting time trying to do a trick I cannot do.

Mission 5 Part 1 Had to come up with a safe strat since I couldn't get by without dying. Now it's a matter of getting it constant.

I'll post more as I go. Right now I'm on mission 4 Part 2 I am hoping to attempt to do runs this weekend. Goal time is about 45min. That is being very generous too I hope to get closer to 40 but 45 makes it a more realisted goal since it is a SS.

Man, I am so looking forward to this! I played the game last week on Normal and tried speedrunning it a bit and boy was it hard. A SS would be of the chain!
Yea Mission 1 part 2 is annoying with the guards. I've only gotten the good pattern maybe 2 times in over 20 tries, but it does save a LOT of time! As it is that early in the run I guess getting the good pattern will be a requirement in a SS run. Which means way too many resets to start off with =( And that's the easy part of this game O.o!
I've only been trying to speedrun up untill the mummy boss. I'm genuinely scared for the rest of the game.

Bang You don't lose too much time if you go up to the room in part 2. You don't actually need to kill the radio man you just need to kill 4 enemies in that area. There are 2 on the right (they always 100%) come out and two from the right. I have better luck getting the officer to come over then the radio man which gets stuck on a sign.

The game isn't too bad until... The Fallschirmjägers appear... They are the real run enders. The FG 22 does ridiculous amounts of damage, and they never only hit you once.

If y'all are interested I am streaming my attempts. I'm about to go live with some practice if y'all want to watch. http://www.twitch.tv/slashtangent

What's all this talk about doing resets until getting good patterns? The game is a bitch to single-segment (and to run on windows7x64, btw), so just making it through relatively quickly regardless of patterns even on easy as already an achievement. I just tried to single segment the first two missions, it was on hard and I didn't practice much, but it gave me a distinct feeling that single-segmenting the entire thing with all its instant death/mission failed moments, and doing in it in less than 45 minutes will take some veeery long time and tons of attempts with rage inducing deaths. Hopefully I didn't sound too discouraging, so again - good luck! :>

Just did a run for funsies to see how far I can get, got to crypt 2 and died because the game claims I hit the pressure plate with the spinning saws.
Yeah.. this thing is a BEAST to SS.

Just a general note if anyone's having trouble running this game at a stable framerate on modern systems: try setting r_primitives 2 in the console. I'm not sure if that's the issue you're talking about, KhanFusion, but it was a problem I had until using that console command. I still occasionally get weird crashes and stuff though, and I don't know if there's a whole lot that can be done about that. But at least with that console command, the game can be run at a good framerate on a modern machine. That's pretty important, because I'm almost positive the acceleration you get from strafe-jumping is based on your framerate.

The main problem is that I can't set custom resolution, with r_mode set to -1 the game crashes when loading mission 2. Also, there is a very severe stuttering for a couple of seconds at the start of each level. Not really a problem, just an annoyance.

And framerate affects how fast you deplete your stamina when sprinting. Certain frame rates make you jump a tiny bit higher (and bunny hop faster as a result), but in the current circumstances the difference is negligible. Running RTCW is not the same as running a DeFRaG map.

I seem to get extremely random results from strafejumping. Sometimes I get a boost forward, sometimes I actually end up going slower (though I may just suck at it?) I'm running the Steam version which seems to be optimised for newer systems, though the pc I'm running it on is windows XP.

My latest SS run these are the recent times:

I only made it to part 4 of mission 3 so...

Mission 1 6:46
Mission 2 17:30ish
Mission 3 PArt 4 Run ended with death.

Which isn't too bad if I say so my self.

Edit: Also Band Make sure you have some stamina before you start strafe jumping. By sprinting a millisecond before starting strafe jumping you increase the speed and distance of your jump.
Just finished my first SS run Final time was about 1:03

I didn't feel like doing a normal run before work so this one was done on Easy. I died 3 times. Which isn't bad considering how tough this game is. I hope to get 0 deaths on normal. The ai was cooperative for the most part.

Here is the video:

Well, I'll throw something in as well. Here is a deathless run that could serve a base line. The final time is 56:30 or so. From the vids description:
"This is a run through the game on hard difficulty without dying or failing a mission while not using savegames.
It looks waaay too sloppy at times (I should have practiced those jumps a bit more) but it is not a real speed run, the real thing will require a lot more commitment that I just don't have. The aim of this run was to be reasonably fast (less than 1 hour) and to showcase tricks and strats that I believe could be used in a single segment speed run."
So I'm going to go out on a limb and call that the WR run Tongue It's easily beatable with some practice. Well a lot since it was done on Hard. Good job nonetheless. A quick question where do you get the final time from? It doesn't appear on the final level so how is the timing for it done? I stopped my Wsplit right when the screen went back after the boss dies before the cutscene.

The final level lasts about 1 minute, so I added it to the 55:30 that appeared on the previous level.
Your time, if you run were deathless, would be exactly 1 hour.

P.S. No mice were harmed while making this run. :3

I just broke my 3rd mouse today... This is unreal the First 2 were to raging this third one I picked up maybe an inch and dropped to the desk and bam no longer works. I'm so pissed off right now. I guess that's what I get for buying an $8 mouse.
So can anyone shed light on what just happened here?
http://www.twitch.tv/slashtangent/c/1833641

That has never happened before and I don't comprehend what happened...

Looks like a cutscene that glitched/froze.

There is no cutscene there... But I agree something messed up.
Happened to me once, just another glitch.

^ (well then just another glitch)
I've been working on putting together a run for this game but I've come across a problem that will probably keep me from having a competitive time. The final boss battle has been fixed in the Steam version, meaning that Heinrich cannot be killed with the rubble.

What versions are being used for these other runs so I know what to get?
The standard first edition of the game not the steam or the plat hits. You can find the disc for about $5
How does KhanFusion have the timer at the end of each level display only the time for that particular run, and is always shows 2 retries?

I just recently started learning this game, and I've gotten the route down from the beginning to the start of x-labs. I've been using KhanFusion's SS hard run to learn/practice with, but I was just wondering if there was any faster runs since its been such a long time or anyone has found new timesavers (even little 1-5 second ones).

Also, what exactly does the difficulty in RTCW change? from what i've seen its only enemy damage and health recovered from medkits? I've been doing all my practice on easy just to get used to the game but I'll probably go with normal or even up to hard after I learn it all, since those seem to be more popular amongst the community.

Don't expect to see full runs quite yet but maybe over the weekend I'll finish learning the game and perhaps do some early attempts next week on my twitch channel (for those interested) twitch.tv/bl00d_thunder
