Veni, Vidi, Vici.
Well this is a Single-Segment and it's only my first attempt. I'll make eimprovments later.

Right now, I'm planning on going through a 5 or 6 Segment run with Chris on Hard next.

Oh, did you notice I said Single-Segment? Obviously any run you do will be faster because it's Segmented You only have to redo a small amount for improvments, I would have to start entirely over. That's why Your 1:42 run was faster.

my time would be faster in a single segment run.... it takes a good 30 seconds to save each time... thats around 2 and half more minutes shaved off....

and dont try to make excuses why your times so off... its off because you do pointless things in your run and most likely dont know the fastest route.... i garentee that...

i think you should let me help you improve your run... instead of being in denial....

You're not hearing that...you're just misreading it.  He said Segmented runs are faster...segmented meaning broken into seperate parts.  Segmented and Multi-segmented mean the same thing.

In any event I don't really view multi-segmented runs as being any real measure of skill.  On the other hand a great gamers single-segmented and multi-segmented runs should be fairly close to each other in most games (there are exceptions) and any big gap between the two times usually just means the gamer is currently too inexperienced with that game and just needs to practice more.

ok see... i said... well ment to say... single segments runs are faster... then broken down runs.... the only difference time difference should be saves...

and plus... theres no way me saving and running through the same he does... would give me a time 14 minutes faster then his....

How can Single-Segment runs be faster?

With segmented runs you can fix problems within small sections to get the ultimate time.

You can't do that with Single-segment runs, you'd have to start entirely over.

I think what he meant is that with practice, the best time will be achieved in a Single Segment run because saving takes a little time. At some point you get good enough that you would lose more time by saving than you do from your mistakes, so saving becomes useless. For example, try and sub 1h RE:1 (original) using a segmented run... it is probably impossible.

^exactly...

and plus if youve shaved almost a minute of the past record... that is most likely from lack of mistakes... so you cant say my time is because of lack of mistakes

its because of my OWN technique and route.... which im willing to help you with....

KnifeRun, instead of "trying to help him" why don't you just record one of your run and send it to Nate? If you got a time 13 minutes faster than him I think it would be worth it.

i wanna send it in... and by the looks of it... i have atleast 4 more minutes to shave to meet the japanese record... which im surprized...i though the japanese time would be alot faster... im not complaining... this is the closest ive to a japanese record....

Not all japanese records are "godly".  Just take a look at the databases on Shin's site that show the 2nd through 10th place finishers.:-p

Though I'm not sure if the original Resident Evil still clocks time during saving I can say with a fair amount of certainty that the time it takes to pick up an ink ribbon and use it would already waste a good 8 seconds and make a sub 60 hour run extremely difficult to achieve (55:50 is the current world record; only two people in all have achieve a sub 60 Chris rocket launcher run).

Single-segments are only faster than multi-segments when perfection has nearly peaked.  For most people, in fact for most speedrunners, this doesn't matter as you'll never achieve such perfect play over extended periods of time (though clearly it's easier to perfect a 3 minute game as opposed to a 1 hour game).

If you really want to know, I'll make up a list of how I do things and give it to you (post it) tomorrow morning, ok?
