a thread was started in the older console forum about whether the DS "classic mode" version was comparable to the PSX version. you can skip door animations and cut scenes in the DS version. this can make a tremendous time discrepancy between the two versions. the current best unofficial time by 19Duke84 (31:51) is over 30 minutes faster than what is possible with the PSX! I thought this needed to be pointed out as soon as possible.

I would assume, or at the very least hope, that anyone who ever plays the DS version of this game would immediately realize that, with the cut scenes and door animations being skippable, there is no comparison between this and the original psx version.  Of course other runners who've only played the DS version may not know this.  However common sense would tell you that if you're a new runner of a game version and you're beating the worlds best known times from another version by 5+ minutes with ease that there's something seriously different between the two versions; let alone when there's an over 30 minute difference.:-p

And I already pointed out that fact of the differences many times now.:-p  I guess it never hurts to repeat certain things though.:-p
Also, the game runs as fast as the NTSC version, which is sure to put a smile on PAL players+runners (it certainly did for me  ;D).

It takes getting used to but PAL players will probably have more fun with this version than the original. Resident Evil on the go!
A Sinister Figure, Cowled Like A Monk...
The reason it runs the same is because there aren't the differences on handhelds that there are on consoles. DS's are region free (to my happiness, I had Trauma Centre a full six months before UK release).

Im the poster of the thread he talked about, the reason i asked couse i got a time of 1:03? Could Use this run to beat the current time of 1:05?

I know there are no differences, except for the interface.

Would I beable to use this, or would i have to set this record for a new game

WTF???  I can't speak for everyone but I sure as heck don't know what you're trying to say.

You got a 1:03 for what?  And what time of 1:05???  Are you playing the psx or DS version???

I got a Complete gameplay time of 1:03. the record for the fastest (for the PSx) is 1:05. But i got my time on the Classic mode on the Nintendo DS version of Resi Evil. bassically, would it be a legal run of the PSX game, on the Classic mode of the DS version?

Read the first post in this topic and you should have your answer.

Well, the increased speed did put a smile on my face, but the lack of different mansion musics and strange rendition of some tunes (guardhouse) didn't :(. If they have enough room to store bad (not even cheesy) voice comments on your rating in the "Master of Knifing" minigame, they might as well plug in all 4 mansion tunes instead of just 1. The music was a large part of the experience for me, so this hurt bigtime *sigh*.

But yeah, I agree with Brandon: PSX version <> DS version. Also, it's quite interesting to realise that in the PSX version, you're actually spending half your time watching door animations and cutscenes :). RE is a  very small game in the end ;).
huh - i didn't realize that they messed with the mansion music.... i did notice that they cut out other songs; for example, in the conversation with wesker at the guardhouse, they replaced the original song with the guardhouse dorm room music.

I know, but for me, the mansion music is the worst incident. It doesn't change when you switch floors, and it doesn't morph after returning from the guardhouse. I cannot understand why they did this - each tune is pretty short (one minute), so memory couldn't possibly have been an issue. Oh well.

i wasn't bothered by the music issue; though I certainly noticed it.  Of course the majority of my playthroughs of the game were done while at work so I had the volume muted anyways so noone would catch me playing games at work.:-p

I'd bring the DS to work and play through RE:DS twice before the day ended.;-)

I could never play a RE with the sound turned off. I need my ambience fix :).

Yeah I think the whole ambience thing has no effect on you after the 30th or 40th playthrough...let alone 100+.:-p

Screw the ambience all I care about is how fast I can beat it in.:-)

Not for me. Sound is very important. No ambience = no fun = no motivation = no effort done for it unless paid.
