Hi everyone, this is my first time here so I'm pretty new to the whole scene (I hope I'm even posting in the right spot).

I'd like to do a time attack to 1up the current speed run for "The 4th Survivor" mini-game in Resident Evil 2.

I have a copy of the game for the PSX and was ready to do it through PC emulation, until I read in the rules that this was prohibited.  Instead, I had my friend let me borrow his copy of the game for PC which is an exact port of the "Dual Shock" rendition of the game for the PSX.

Since this is the case, I hope my time attack would challenge the current record holder across the platforms.

I read all the rules to abide by in regards to encoding, so is there anything else I need to do before I start my run?

Thanks for your time.

The fastest known time, if you weren't aware, is from a japanese gamer.  Tofu was done in 2 min. and 2 sec.

Don't remember Hunk.
Just call me the cynicism machine
If the load times for Hunk's missions are different between Playstation and PC, yours will be considered a different run than the one hosted on the site.

I'm not even sure his run would count period.  He doesn't have the PC version of the game he says he has the psx version he'll run through PC emulation.  That means he doesn't really have a copy of the game; he just downloaded it and it using a psx emulator to play it.  I dont' think that's allowed.

And yes the load times for the PC version are MUCH faster than that of the psx  version.

Yeah i wasn't paying attention.

But yes PC version is painfully quicker.  Nothing done on it is at all comparable to any other version of the game.

Hey everyone, thanks for the feedback.  I have read your platform-specific concerns and plan to address them now.

Fortunately, the Dual Shock version has the mini-games running on a clock counter to gauge your rank (the original RE2, however, did not).  Yes, loading screens on the PC version do in fact go faster (and can even be skipped), but they do NOT count towards the clock in reaching the goal.

In other words, the loading screens do not affect the timer at all.

Should the current record holder have used the original RE2 to gauge his time attack, then it would not be fair to compare.  However, he has also used the Dual Shock version, so longer load times have not affected his record either, which is why I believe the grounds for competition are on fair terms.

My only question now, though, is that if the current world record holder for Tofu (which is substantially harder than The 4th Survivor) is barely past 2 minutes, then why is the current record holder for The 4th Survivor on SDA a one "Damien 'Dragondarch' Moody" at almost 3 and a half minutes?  And why is that current record holder for Tofu not acknowledged on SDA?

Thanks for your time and assistance, I hope to get the green light for going ahead with my run soon.

Ah yes that's another thing I forgot about.  With the in-game timer used on the 4th survivor mode in the Dual shock edition the times should be comparable.:-)  Of course further review of the video when it comes out will be needed but I see no reason of this not being acceptable.

Secondly Damian "Dragondarch" Moody is NOT the world record holder for ANY Resident Evil title; he's just the only one to submit times for certain games to SDA.

The Tofu run isn't on SDA because the japanese gamer who made it didn't put it on here (back when that video was originally made SDA didn't even exist; it was planetquake and they weren't accepting video's for every game like they do today...the Tofu vid is old).

SDA is not a site for World Records it's just a site for speedruns.  While it's true that a good number of world record times eventually appear on SDA it CANNOT be assumed that every run on SDA is the best that anyone has done on a certain title.  In fact there are quite a few runs that were put on this site that are already FAR behind videos of runs that have been up for months.

Actually determining what is and is not a world record usually requires a whole lot of research on your part.  Offhand I do not know what the fastest time for Hunk's game is but it can probably be found on this site: http://homepage3.nifty.com/shin3/

Good Luck.
