My feelings on The Demon Rush
Game page: http://speeddemosarchive.com/ResidentEvil.html

Luciano 'LucianoRX' Matyak's Jill and Chris runs:

Verifier responses

Quote:
just finished to watch the runs.
jill:
very amazing. the route used was probably the fastest possible, i cant think in another faster than it. i'm very impressed with the dodge skills of this guy, he did some dodges i always thought that was impossible to execute, very good. the damage factor was very calculated and the shots/ammo as well.
chris:
all i can say: genius! that knife trick is amazing, i cant believe I never thought in doing it. he just owned the plant by knifing it lol. and again the dodge skills, unbelievable. i also learned a lot tips with this run, like the place where he stays to shoot in the tyrant, very strategic.
the audio/video quality looks very good.
To me, these runs can absolutely be submitted.

Sorry for the delay...just spend the last 2 weeks moving into a new place.
Anyway, in terms of play quality, he's very skilled. Knows exactly where to be in what rooms and the like, minimizes ammo consumption, etc. Also seemed to have a better route through the mansion in the beginning.
The only minor quibble I have (with both runs) is that the audio sounds a little distorted at times, or rather, scratchy when the noises get loud. Kind of reminded me of recording something with a microphone up to my TV speakers.
Both runs approved.

Title : Resident Evil Director's Cut PSX
Region : NTSC U/C
System : PSX - This run was played on a PS2 system.
Analog, Dual Shock Controller : ?
Run Categorie : SS
Difficulty Option : 'Advanced' / in German : 'Fortgeschritten'
---
verify notes :
I had use for the verify work the original German version and played all again on the original PSX (PS1) system. I had play all again on the PS2 system.
Sorry mike for my long time of the verify of this run, but you can see, I had play this run again on the PS2 system.
The game version from the runner guy do really fast run on his PS2 system.
- loading time run very fast
- doors open run to fast
- the characters going very fast / run very fast
- ingame videos run very fast
- loading Areas to fast
- instructions and texts skip and run very fast (?)
In all, the game run to fast, for a normal loading reading PSX disc.
My german PSX/PAL version do not run so fast on my PSX and PS2 system ?
I do it not really know, but I think the run was played from a iSO of a HDD-Loader.
---
Quality Gameplay = good
Quality Video = good
Quality Audio = not so good ! / (reason for iSO loader ?)
---
really Necessary question for the runner :
Was this run played from a iSO to a HDD-Loader ?
mike, please send me back a answer comment from the runner guy. thanks

Response to previous message.

/goes and looks up what an HD-loader is
I don't see any evidence of one being used at all. I compared my runs to his in this case, and his loading times (between rooms) actually seemed slightly longer than mine.
Where did this other verifier find evidence of one being used?

Quote:
Just looked at it a second time...I stand by my assessment of there being no HD-loader involved. Using my run as a comparison the loading times seem near identical in all cases.
I'm not sure what it is that he's seeing that's "very fast."

hy mike
I am so sorry for my stupid verify of Resident Evil.
I had yesterday download a PSX copy from the game Biohazard DC Dual Shock and this NTSC version do really fast run on my PSX console. Yes the speedrun video do perfect run with the NTSC Dual Shock version. This was my big mistake. Please excuse my bad verify work.
I hope you are not angry with me.
I give the run green light. It is all Ok.

There was another verifier response on IRC, I'm just paraphrasing here, but the guy's response was along the lines of "Wow, very good, definite accept"

Decision: Accepted

Reason: Aside from some substandard audio, and a quick-loading issue that turned out to be a non-issue (it turns out the guy was used to the PAL version), none of the verifiers had any complaints about the run. They were all impressed by the gameplay.

One note to verifiers: It's safe to assume a console run is NTSC unless if I mention otherwise.

everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
STGT week 1 voting reasons (before they knew the reasons would be posted) = what people say with old verification process
STGT week 2-5 voting reasons (knowing people will see them) = what people say with new verification process

Edit: These threads are awesome. It's like the precogs in Minority Report. I'm actually waiting for a run with a minority report.
