First off, I apologize if this has already been answered somewhere here. To my knowledge, there's only the thread to setup for recording off plays from an emulator, not from physical game consoles.

I'm looking to stream (or at least record) play from my physical consoles, and figured this community would be able to offer the best recommendations for such. I can give technical details of my setup if necessary.

Thanks for any help you all can offer!

Also, I know modern consoles sort of have this type of thing 'built in' -- so the help I need is for use on older consoles.
If you are wanting to record older consoles as well as newer ones, the Elgato game capture hd (the 30fps one) can do anything from the NES to the Xbox One.  I am not sure which Avermedia card can do this.  I myself am looking into buying an XCapture-1.
I would highly recommend the XCAPTURE-1 from Micomsoft. It will accept any type of input you can think of. It works well with streaming software, and I believe is the recommended card from OBS. It's external and USB3 so you can use it on a laptop if you want. This also makes it portable.

If that's too much money, I'd recommend the PEXHDCAP. The hardware is made by Micomsoft, but it's sold in the US by Startech. It's about half the price of the XCAPTURE-1, but it's an internal card, and doesn't accept as many inputs. Mainly JP-21 (RGB) is what I wanted.

I tried several other cards and returned them because there was always something that didn't work properly. I just gave in and bought the XCAPTURE-1.

Do not buy the PEXHDCAP unless you know what you are doing. It does not allow for composite or s-video capture.

However, the XCAPTURE-1 / SC-512 does.

Thanks narshe, this post has pretty much been my starting guide for finding a capture card. I pretty much dream of someday livestreaming my speedruns of SMW and Banjo-Kazooie.
