I was wondering if someone would be interested in doing the old Commander Keen games that existed somewhere aroud 1991 (not sure, though). I'm sure someone would be able to beat then in 20 minutes, especially the first one.

Just a thought. ^^;;

I'll try running them, too, for that matter.

Update: I've tried all of the disks I have (a dozen some) and only Commander Keen 1 and 6 and MAYBE Jill of the Jungle 1-2-3.I'll try running them now.

I thought of that too... I also have them! It's certainly a possibility, but I'm nowhere near as leet on the pogo stick as is needed to do the levels quickly.
Would love to see this, second vote.

(Seeing as id made them... should be SOME popularity =p)
While we're on the subject, someone should do The Oregon Trail haha.
The Unreal Authority.
I remember these games. Very fun stuff.
Don't have them anymore, though

Would be fun to watch.

I remember Commander Keen. anyone know about Monster Bash?
aw crikey!
I'd love to see a Keen games speedrun - I've tried it a couple times myself, but never gotten anything worth recording. Unfortunately, the best way to tear through Keen 1 I could find (since blaster ammo is usually located in hard-to-reach spots) is to go to the dark side, collect 15 ammo in the optional city, and die (takes like 10 seconds, but SDA isn't too fond of those tricks).

A far more difficult game to speedrun in the same vein would be Jazz Jackrabbit, where you can reach insane speeds at will but your path is constantly blocked by enemies.
The Unreal Authority.
I used to have Jazz jackrabbit, I only have jazz jackrabbit 2 now. I forgot about that game. I think I might take a look at it later on tonight and see if its worth running.

I just remembered another really old game of mine that somebody would speed run...

Jill of the Jungle!

A very crappily made game with weird sounds (especially when you die). I remember, when I was 5-some, that I used to play these all the time... I had fun beating one of those just like that!

I might comnider making a speed run of either games, since I still have the floppy disks, but I have no idea how to record them; I only have a webcam, but those aren't allowed beacause of the poor quality.

Heck; the games themselves are horrible, so with a horrible run capture, it'll be nothing but blurs.

Besides, there isn't much skill needed, so it might not be accepted anyways.
Sleeping Terror
Jill of the Jungle was one of the first games I ever played. Probably not the first, but it's the earliest one I remember, and it's the first game I beat. It took me a really long time. I still remember so much about it...

I remember all these games! Back in the days when I didn't even have the internet, and when an Amiga was still in the house. And when 'Apogee' was a household name. Smiley

In that case, I also suggest 'Captain Cosmo'!
Captain Cosmo! I remember that...I'm not even sure the disk still works...

Anyways, for now, I don't want any suggested games (I already have at least 8!), I need a way to record it...

I have no idea what Amiga or Apogee are...

Well, the traditional way is to download FRAPS / Camtasia, and that shouldn't mess up your framerate since these games are so old. Smiley

Amiga: Computer type that's pretty old now. Came out after Ataris did, I think.
Apogee: A video games company of the time; made Crystal Caves, amongst other things.

Err...two more questions:

1. Do we have to pay for either of them? I'm only 14 and I only have 10$ in my wallet.

2. How do we send a file? D: I'm going to 9th grade in Spetember and the closest thing to computer programming I've learned is typing...wich was freakin' useless beacause I kept looking at the keyboard by only lowering my pupils a bit, making it hard for anyone to notice.
MarioKart64.com biotch!
The oldskool 2-d Duke Nukem games were awesome. Did anyone else have Halloween Harry?
Update: Now, it's 12:12 AM i.e. midnight. I need t go to bed...

And for those who are interested in this: I'm trying to copy games for the disks to my C:/ drive. Many of them failed, but I haven't gotten through all of them yet. Only Keen 1 and 6 work...

G'night.

Halloween Harry, god that game was fun. I don't remember Monster Bash though... One Must Fall!!!!!111

Since OMF has system-variable speed, you can either try for points (I currently hold the record for one round story mode, at ~103 million) or a perfect run (which I haven't done yet). Unlike the others, OMF is freeware, so feel free to download it and relive the glory days.
Hell is where the heart is.
I had a good route worked out for Keen4, but I got fed up with some of the pogo stick stunts needed to get a good time. Maybe I'll try again.

Monster Bash... that takes me back.  From what I remember though it was quite long and short on shortcuts.

Before I say anything, Robyrt, you are (probably), the greatest omf2097 player in the entire world, you've truly inspired me to try doing a perfect run in single (on ultimate) unfortunately my TV wont show the image if I play normally, it sits at a black screen, DOSBox works though, but DOSBox is...slow...

as for speedrunning a old game, I would love to try out Commander Keen 4, I've played it so many times I have a whole pattern of keys to press at specific times memorized  Smiley

But ive had a few games i would love to speedrun (and that I can film, fraps is terrible with old games, so I record through my tv recorder, but like a VCR only with DVD quality)

Command And Conquer : Tiberian Dawn (the first one)
Crusader : No Remorse/No Regret (I have cd's of both  :P)
Cannon Fodder 1 & 2

A far more difficult game to speedrun in the same vein would be Jazz Jackrabbit, where you can reach insane speeds at will but your path is constantly blocked by enemies.

Unless you have played the game enough to know where they all are (kinda like visualising the entire level) its almost impossible.

Oh my god, Cannon Fodder! It would have to be a whole game run though... keeping good ol' Jools and Jops in your team all the way is something to be proud of. I would watch CF runs no problem.

...well, I've got a strange urge to play cannon fodder, so I might as well play through it and consider attempting a speedrun.
A minimalist Commander Keen 1 run should be close to 5 minutes in length.  I've done plenty of speedruns through this game, but I never found a reliable way to record them.  Reliable as in more than 3 frames/sec  Tongue  If anyone finds a way to record movies from DOSbox or any other way to record Commander Keen 1, I'll get praticed up and go for sub-5 minutes! (sorry Radix :P)

If you use command-line options in dosbox, you can record the whole run ("file0001 rec save_rec" instead of "omf") in OMF's match recording format, and I'll gladly host it if you need webspace. Getting it to translate to a video is the hard part, and requires a better computer than I own. Tongue

Hmmm... Keen speedrun, eh? Sounds interesting. I'll try it.
