why is this game so dead?

anyway...

my fastest time so far... is 3h.36m. with the rocketlauncher though... i dont see me speedrunning this game without it...

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
With the launcher I've got a 2 hour 27 minute and 28 second run (my 3rd run through the game overall).  I plan to work on a "default" speedrun after I've learned the game a bit more.  There a lot of enemies in the game that you have to kill so it's a bit wierd to have a "speedrun" with several times the necessary body count of any other resident evil.  The area with Leon, Ashley and Luis barracaded in the house during chapter two already requires more enemy deaths than any RE game I've ever played (Yes it is a kill count event and not a timed one).

It'll be interesting to see what I can do with this game.

i tried a default game... but i gave up... because u have to shoot the first enemies or you can wait for a clearing...but if u get hit once your in caution... because u have no life...so its pointless really...im just going to try all weapons...

but right now im just trying to get assualt rifle...which i do have but im trying to finish that game... and then i might get the handcanon which u get beating all the stages in merc mini game... and getting 5 stars... then u have to upgrade it till its unlimited and powerful...which i think that will be the fastest weapon to use...

but i hate that merc mini game...
I've played through the game like 5 times now and on my 2:nd attempt as a speedrun i got 2.33.47, using the CT and sniper rifle.

Although, the run is far from perfect and i should be able to get 20 minutes faster. My goal is under 2 hours, on that run i will include the rocket launcher.

do you guys have any checkpoints of your times in your runs? like, what time you had when completing chap 1, 2, etc?

I remember my chapter 1 end time was under 15 minutes (I think under 14:30).  After that I can't remember for sure.  I imagine around 2 hours is possible with the launcher; playing without special weapon can probably be done in under 2:30 though I can't say for sure.

Wow, under 15 is pretty good for chapter 1, I got 16.01, but my Del Lago fight was aweful.

Yeah the boss fight is what'll do it for you.  Mine wasn't all that great either; it's frustrating as sometimes he'll just make the fight unecessarily long by charging at you more than once during the fight (when the boat stays still and you wait for him to start speeding towards you).  Waste of time.

all of the reg. run is uploaded, and my single segment run with specials(ct and rl) is almost done uploading, i did get under 230, but im not saying what i got right now

Good job on the runs Darkside, I watched the "normal" game up to the Right Hand (part 13) and I saw the time you got with "special" items and it's pretty damn good! Nice work!
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
thanks, i did make quite a few mistakes in the normal run, since i was just getting really pissed at the game because things weren't going the right way for me, but in the specials run, i only made 2 mistakes, one of which was the death puzzle(i still cant get that down), and the other i can't quite remember
Do'h! Homer'D!
I finished watching your Specials run and have a couple of comments.

First of all, your biggest mistakes in my opinion were the Salazar statue puzzle (there's a way to do it a bit faster)
Cabin fight could use some improvement, mostly strat-wize. (I don't think that staying in the stairs and rocketing that window is the fastest way to do it). You got lost in the garden maze on your 8+ playthrough? You already mentionned the death paintings puzzle that you royally fucked up Tongue and why do you take time to kill 2 merchants in the game? (I know it's only a couple of seconds but these seconds add up to minutes over a run that long) I only worked on chapter 1 and 2 (mostly 1) but I can say for sure that you kill way more enemies than necessary. But I understand that, doint a SS run, you don't want to take as much risk and it's alright.
The highlight of your run (mostly shown in your "normal" run) is the way you handle the inventory. I mean, you are phenomenal. Here is what Id, kip and I had to say about that last night:

<Id> he's a fucking inventory genius
<Id> I don't get it
<zell99> yeah, he's crazy fast in the menus but he lacks in other parts of the run
<varfia> yeah man
<varfia> whats with that
<varfia> im pretty sure memorizing a puzzle or not getting lost in the garden is easier than 900 inventory moves/sec
<Id> seriously
<Id> he is some kind of inventory master

Overall, excellent runs you did there. Sure there are mistakes but it gives me a good idea of what is possible in the game. I think sub 2 is still possible but maybe not by that big of a margin like I expected since all the loading, cutscenes, disk changing, inventory work and saving animations, all these count towards your total time. So, to get a good time you wouldn't be able to save too often.

ya, i know about the death paintings puzzle, and getting lost that time in the garden in the specials run, i was trying to get it done before i had to give the system back to my friend, otherwise i would have to wait till my brother got home from college(which wouldn't be until may) to get the run done.
i was just trying to get people to try and do the run since people were giving up on the game on doing a speed run, so i was just trying to get people to realize that it is possible to do one, and i would have redone the last run, since i realized at the end after watching the time on the tape that the last CG does add to the time, but since i know that when someone decides to do another speed run to the game that it should be beaten by at least 5 minutes and that is just me thinking that it shuold be beaten by at least thet much, if not more
since i don't have the game anymore, i can't do another run to the game, or try and do another speed run with specials until my brother gets home from college and i will try to perfect my specials speed run to try and get a time under 2 hours

thanks for the complement on the inventory crap, i was trying to be as fast as possible since it adds to time while your'e in the menu area

edit:i would like to talk to some of you guys about what you think i could do better about the run, or if you have any questions, IM me at D4rkside X on AIM and i will try to help you guys out, or learn from you guys on how to do the run better, thanks
Do'h! Homer'D!
You think the final video counts towards total time? I thought the timer started when you say "Load > YES" and ended before the final video. In your run, you clicked YES around 0:00.34 on the video and final cutscene started around 2:14.23 which would make sense since 2:13.51 was your final time.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
i know that it does since i looked at the time at the segment before the final segment, and there was 5 minutes between that segment and the final time, and it only took me around 3:30 to beat salazar and get to the exit, and at the end, there was another 1:30 added to the time, and i can only think that the final cut scene adds to the final time
Do'h! Homer'D!
Yeah you're right, it seems like the final cutscene counts towards the final time. But can you skip it?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
ya, you can, thats why i skipped it in the specials run, but i accidentally saved over the file, so i cant redo the final segment
just curious but when go into your invintory u use the joy-pad right not the stick. cause that makes it go like a billions times faster
cause thats what I do in all my RE games

PS for this wast of a post

This topic is about RE4, and it's quite high on the list, so I'll post something that I found during the day (it's basically just a copy of a post I made at M2k2)

"
I was reading up on GFAQs, and stumbled upon a (stickied) topic about damage made by The n00b Avenger.
Discussion about damage trailed of into discussion of difficulty lowering when you die and choose continue (I think it gradually rises when you beat chapters), and it affects enemy life and aggressiveness.

Then, it came to something interesting.
Apparently, after the jap. version, Capcom decided to heavily tweak the AI by giving it Acc+ gear, oh, sorry, too much FFXI -_-', anyway, the enemies have since the US release gotten a auto-aim lock-on function that makes them incredibly much harder to avoid, forcing more kills than what's needed in the jap. version.
As the difficulty lowers when you choose continue in the NA or PAL versions, it slowly goes down to the level of the japanese version. This means that you need to die a minimum of 5 times before you are on the same level of difficulty as the japanese. Each time you choose continue, there is a 2/3 chance of getting it easier when you continue.
There is also some (not explained) bug about loading a "New Game" file from within the game instead of the main menu which automatically lowers the difficulty for normal games to minimal. Note that this doesn't work on Proffesional at all, as it's supposed to be hard.

This means that getting even close to Torao's 2:08 New Game on a NA or PAL copy is pretty much impossible, unless you find a way of nerfing the AI without dying.
"

So, yeah, was this known?
Im keen to start speed running this game (I have the PAL version) and wanna try a normal, new game run soon. I still havent completed the game completely yet though! I only got it a week or so ago ya see.
