Rayman Legends is a video game in which you punch things and run and jump without any limbs. The game is incredibly technical in the ways that you can move and it's very hard to describe through text, but I'll try.

First off, in order to familiarize yourself with the route I recommend downloading my own PB splits (PB for now) and read the notes:
https://runsplits.org/games/rl/categories/any/routes/29
If you want visuals, there are a couple videos in this thread showing off full runs, so be sure to check them out.

A couple numbers that are relevant when learning the speedrun:
Rayman is 1 meter tall

Spin:
3 meters
0.5 seconds
6 m/s

Running:
3 meters
0.6 seconds
5 m/s

Spin with pause:
3 meters spin
3 meters run
5.5 m/s

Spin with roll:
3 meters spin 54.54%
2.5 meters roll 45.45% (Roll: 0.45 seconds, 5.555~ m/s)
  3.2727~
+2.5252~
=5.7979~ m/s

Walking:
2.5 meters
0.8 seconds
3.125 m/s

So be sure to spin attack a lot, and jump when possible to maintain momentum.

Slopes are the lifeblood of moving fast, so if you see a downward slope, try sliding down it!

The game is pretty much just a basic platformer all about practice and not choking, so good luck in the learning!

Old OP if you're so inclined:

So, Rayman Legends is the newest 2d Rayman game (coming out very soon in the US), very similar to Origins in many ways and is seemingly a very good speedgame. I decided to put this post in the PC section even though it's on every platform simply because it's likely similar to Origins where loading times are blisteringly fast on PC as compared to other consoles.

What we know about the game as of now is that in order to beat the game with the "normal" ending you need 260 teensies, of which there are 450 outside of the lucky tickets, which I'll talk about a bit later. Each level is unlocked by beating the previous, and there is no way to skip levels, meaning routing will come down to just beating every level as fast as possible and figuring out which teensies to grab along the way, easy right? Most levels have 10 teensies to collect, 2 of which being contained within a side room in the level and are likely not fast enough to be included. Each level also can be invaded, adding a time trial mode with 3 available teensies with a time better than 40 seconds (1 teensy per 13 seconds :o), this will likely be the most optimal way to get a large amount of teensies. Obviously there is still something that is somewhat important to mention.

Tickets:
Alright, this is the only part of the game that doesn't feel speedrun friendly. The lucky tickets are a usable item obtained by collecting 3/4 of the gold requirement lum count on each level. Each ticket, as far as we can tell, can give a random outcome until the maximum of the outcome is met, such as teensies. There are as of right now an unkown amount of teensies to be won from the tickets, and it's also random making it very very unreliable for a speedrun purpose. But not only can teensies be won from the tickets, but also the redux'd Rayman Origins levels. These levels each have teensies to save as well, however are mostly auto-scrollers so likely not fast enough. These tickets raise a pretty huge question: do we use tickets or not? If tickets are used in a speedrun the runs could most likely come down to how lucky a person is; however if they aren't included, lums are completely useless and are likely to be avoided.

As I see it, categories for this game would be:
Any% (tickets/no tickets)
400 teensies  <------ to unlock living dead party (kind of like 70 star)
100%  <------ would include all teensies, all levels, all princesses, all tickets, all creatures(?)

Other categories could exist for maybe races, but for record categories these feel like the best.

Any input? Ideas? Anyone else looking to run this game?

Figured someone would make this soon. Came out early in the lovely country down here :3

Castle in Clouds Invaded in 27.84

Mansion of the Deep Invaded in 29.13

That's only the tip of the iceberg. This game is FREAKING. HUGE.

Correct or prove me wrong if I am, but the tickets seem almost pseudo-RNG. You get the Origins levels in order, I know that much. Other than that I've seriously been gaining everything absolutely equally by scratching them. No doubt some research is needed to get concrete facts.

Spike where r u we need ur lum routing prowess (I know it isn't even out for you guys, BAH whatever I'm impatient) Shocked

4-2 The Deadly Lights in 34.54

I'll work out what the deal will be with categories once I finish my sweep of the game. It ALLL depends on what is required to trigger end game, which seems to be a few things...

EDIT: And to add on to what UberGoose said. Yeah, PC. Load times are literally faster than Origins....

Hey Cryptic, I'm glad that you are so interested in this game, and awesome times for time trial, that more or less confirms that they will be integral for a SS run just based on how fast they can be done. As for lums, they are highly irrelevant in terms of beating the game, you could beat the game with 0 lums if you wanted, all they do is give you the rankings at the end of each level as well as lucky tickets (and characters I guess). Opening the final level requires 260 teensies, so pretty much just figuring out the fastest ones to get is what it will come down to.

Once again, nice work with the time trials, sub 30 on any of them is pretty huge for SS.

EDIT: One question I have, having not played the game yet, how do the time trials unlock? I was watching Twyn_o during his first playthrough and it seemed to just happen semi-randomly.
Ganondorf = Donkey Kong LOOK IT UP!!
It seems that the invasions have two triggers to unlock. The first is a teensy count. The second is the level actually being beaten in the first place. As I'm nearing the end I'm noticing a lot more are unlocking right after beating the level. That's what leads me to believe is these things. No concrete data though.

The order seems predetermined, as they HAVE been getting steadily harder as I progress, regardless of the level they are attached to.
Interesting, that could mean that we could maybe do extra teensies earlier to make the invasions available to us more frequently closer to the level we just beat. God I want this game to be out right now so I can test stuff ;_;
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
So trusty old Gamefaqs message boards says that Invasion levels are unlocked by completing two trigger levels. The level the invasion is based on and another level which contains the enemies that then "Invade" those newly unlocked Invasion levels. What that probably means is that they are more viable in later levels in the run, since I would think their invasion levels would be linked to earlier levels.

As someone who has only watched a few hours of "Let's Plays" for this game so far, I think routing this will be pretty simple as we only need to time sections where we have to slightly diverge from the path to free a Teensie. I'm with Goos that I would think "Secret Room" Teensies are going to be too slow, since the "Time Value" of most regular teensies is going to be <5 Seconds. Since we get 8 of those per regular level, and since we can't skip any levels(is that true?) that's going to make up the bulk of the 260 route.

To be clear I'm going to be routing this after I play through the game once completionist once I get it in about 46 hours, and my timing method WAS going to be playing the levels in an "8-Teensie speed run" setting for each, but is it really true that you can't skip any of the levels? I would think you could at least skip all the music levels and Save the Princess levels, which is fine since those only having 3 teensies won't be worth it likely anyways.

I'm pumped as hell to start routing this, and I will post videos as I make them, but I don't think I really want to start early watching more Let's Play's and keep most of this game a surprise, it looks awesome enough to where I should let it be a surprise and enjoy it.

Also, having played the other versions of the game now(WiiU/PS3/360) and watching some PC walkthroughs, the game looks nearly identical in load times across all platforms. Wii U blows though, since to my knowledge, you are forced to play as Murphy during any of his required sections, which reportedly there are many. I'll be playing the game on PS3 as my computer right now is crap, but it appears there won't be a clear PC version advantage, or at least if it is, it looks closer to SM64 VC Vs. N64, rather then Rayman Origins PC vs. shit versions.

Glad to see people are already jumping on this, I think this game could be an absolute monster speed game.
Edit history:
UberGoose: 2013-09-01 12:15:59 pm
You can't skip levels at all, however the music levels and princess levels are not on the main path, making them optional. (my understanding, I could be wrong though)

What you say about invasion levels makes them very interesting, I guess we can't expand too much on the idea of doing them or not until we do some testing.

For platform differences, if it really comes down to it and they are also not consistent on PC (unlike origins) we could always adopt the old PC game timing method of manually removing load times.
Ganondorf = Donkey Kong LOOK IT UP!!
Wait...oh no....you have to gimmick it with Murphy on Wii-U?
Well there goes that version. Yeah, there are shit tons, some requiring some pretty damn tight timing so I'm not sure how they would've done it with a damn touchpad.

Wait and play this game. Genuinely, I found a smile on my face pretty frequently as the game cast it's charms unspoiled on me Smiley
A level or two here and there is cool, but trust me, you'll want to experience this game first-hand Grin

THAT SAID
SPOILERS POST-GAME STUFF
Just completed the main missions, kind of an eh ending, but that's neither here nor there. Completing the end boss unlocks an Invasion in each world, the Invader being Dark Rayman. Think Shadow Mario in SMG. Like seriously, it's that. As of now I have 444/700 teensies. I haven't laid a finger on the Origins levels yet, but of note is I haven't unlocked all of them as of PRETTTTY much cleaning the main game out. No idea what that says about the draw with Lucky Cards and Origin Levels

Quote from spikevegeta:

It will be. Good to be workin with ya again (*´▽`*)
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Alright, so I went through the level list and here is what I've got:

You need 260 to unlock Hell Breaks Loose, which gives you access to A Cloud of Darkness, the level that gets you into the credits.

If we grab every "Non-Secret Room" Teensie in every level, then that would give us 8 Teensies from 25 levels a piece, giving us 200. Then add in 15 more for Lucha Libre Get Away, and the first 4 worlds Bosses and we get 215.

This means 45 more Teensies need to be collected from elsewhere. As I'm writing this, it seems we MIGHT be able to use an Origins level or two to grab 8-20 more, like Geyser Blowout and Swingin' in the Caves, plus getting lucky and obtaining Single Teensies from scratch off tickets. To note, it appears you get 5 tickets just from beating a boss level, so that gives us 20 late game we could scratch and see what we get. Adds a lot of luck to the end of the run, so we may or may not end up saying "No-Scratch off Ticket" categories if we want the route more set at that point.

From there, the options are Invasion Levels or Save the Princess Levels, which all give out 3 a piece, or just grabbing secret room teensies throughout the other levels, and this is where timing all of them would come into play.

That's what I've got, so if anyone wants to start timing those go for it. I'm almost certain we should just grab all 8 regular teensies per level, since they would all absolutely be fast enough to make the cut, so forget timing them. It's timing the Invasion/Princess levels that will be most important. Here's crossing my fingers that there are enough fast 3 Teensie levels to yield Origins levels not worth it, but I'm not sure, considering 3 Invasion levels could be slower then 1 Origins level. We'll see though.

I tested some of the tickets and I will need some conformation when you guy's get the game but, it seems that the tickets might not be random at all. I have only tested the first 2 levels I ran through each 4 times and each time the first level gave me 500 Lums and the second gave me a creature. If this is true then we might be able to narrow down to just collecting lums in the levels that have Teensies. But it will take more levels and earning the ticket, and then resetting and doing all the levels over again and checking the tickets, to be absolutely sure of this.
Ganondorf = Donkey Kong LOOK IT UP!!
For real? This is fantastic news if it pulls through.
Myself I have no clue what I'm going to do in regards to save files. As there isn't actually a save select in this game. Never screwed with uplay data before so not sure exactly how I'd go about backing up my 100% file to return to without issue. :/

Would be more than happy to help with all the routing hoo-hah, but I seriously don't know whether I could return to the 100% data :/

I also noted that you don't need to complete every level to unlock the boss of a world, doing 1-1 or 1-2 for example will unlock 1-3 and 1-4, however to unlock 1-6 you need to do 1-5. It's a bit strange but there could be a way to skip long levels potentially.

Just some help with routing mostly, alongside the tickets there is a pretty good route to be had. If anyone wants to help me time some stuff to try to figure out what is fastest that would be great. I'll be timing the King/Queens tomorrow most likely.
Alright i´m probably not the best person to help you getting infos cause i´m terrible but anyway i can provide more information about the WiiU version if anyone is interested.

Also for Murphy sections on the WiiU: Yes, you only play Murphy and the character is controlled by the AI, that AI though is surprisingly helpful. If you don´t fuck up the actions you do with Murphy the AI seems to be intelligent enough not to die at all. So it may not even be much slower, its only an animation once you switch to Murphy. Though i don´t have any idea if the other versions also have it

There is like a small cinematic where Murphy rocks up and Rayman is all "Hellayeh" if that's what you are talking about?

Yeah thats the one im talking about so no difference between WiiU and other consoles with that.

Wait, so how is it exactly that you interact with things on Wii U? Shit I may need to look into this.

But first and foremost, going to bounce some times every now and then off of you guys. Gonna need ya'll to check out your platforms boards and see if anything tops it.

A little note about Origins levels unlock : they unlock in a specific order, so I just unlocked mystical munkeys with the 1-4 ticket. The order seems to be :
+Geyser Blast
+best original score
+hi-ho moskito
+dashing through the snow
+swinging caves
...

The fact that Hi Ho moskito is in 3rd position removes anything but geyser blast and best original score from an any% route. So at most we do twice 450 lums.

I'm timing king/queens right now, some are >20s and are not going to make it Cheesy
Ganondorf = Donkey Kong LOOK IT UP!!
Wow didn't think about how early I got Hi-Ho Moskito. Well observed Cheesy

Second time I need people to check for me, 1-4 Ropes Course Invaded in 29.66 Smiley
Only have the PC version so I cannot check for you.

My king/queen timing for world 1 :

Once upon a time
Queen : 26s
King : 20s

Creepy Castle
Queen : 17s
King : 17s

Enchanted Forest
Queen : 13s
King : 12s

Rope Course (450)
Queen : 12s
King : 13s

Quick Sand
Queen : 17s
King : 30s

How to shoot your dragon
Queen : 18s
King : 31s

About the 450s. we still could unlock a 3rd doable origins level by unlock hi ho moskito then dashing thru the snow. However swinging caves would be locked forever. I dont know how bad we need some origins level. I think time trials should be worth it considering we can access them with the suitcase pretty fast. And we can do levels in almost the order we want, so we could do something like "complete half a world, then go back when time trial is unlocked" that would save some running between levels.

Great work with the timing Twyn, keep it up ^^ We'll see with the Origins levels I guess.
