It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
Yeah, maybe buy the game to experiment, you don't need to buy to watch the speedrun... I'll see if once I start cranking out levels to produce AVI's here.

After 3 days I finally completed the Brainstorm route. here's the final levels up until Iron Mountains, at which point getting Lums does not matter:

Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava 475 Lums required

2nd cage: 10-12 skip?
13-29 get
3rd/4th cages: 30-39 get

Tomb of the Ancients
Skip one Lum somewhere- skip something besides secret Lum, because it doesn't count to Lum #, causing bonus game if all other Lums collected.
1st cage: 1-4 get
5-10 get
11-13 get
5th cage: 14-23 get
24 get
6th cage: 25-34 get
35-40 get
7th cage: 41-50 get

This has all been brainstorm, there are plenty of '?'s everywhere, and of course I cannot actually physically see any of the Lum locations, I have to make educated guesses based on how far off the path it seems to collect. I'm thinking maybe all cages with 2 Lums or less to simply skip, because the 3-5 Lums that can come in some cages makes up for the time eneded to get them. Tomb of the ancients is actually very generous- it has 2 cages that have 10 Lums EACH inside them.

If anyone wants to advance very far into the game and toy around with Lum locations that'd be great, I've now got all Lums listed here in the thread, some that I know to skip, some I know to get, and maybe unknown Lums. I haven't done any calculations to see how close to the 190 skip mark I am, but tomorrow will be Friday and then by the end of the weekend I should have a complete route all planned out, but I make no promises.

Death comes very easy in this game, however, it is a very fast recovery. It's 3-4 seconds to start from the beginning of a room after dying, and you keep going until you run out of life, so you get on average 7 times to die when at half life, which comes after getting a game over.

I highly suggest that anyone that tries this run do it segmented- as said the levels are hard, and I really don't think that a minimalist or 100% run can be done in one sitting, I'm having a hard enough time planning every Lum as it is.

Meh, If I ever did a run on this game, it would be single segment.

You are insane.

In a good way.

Don't write this off as an easy game to speedrun.

I think someone who has played this game nonstop since it first came out could definetly do it. Someone just starting to speedrun it could do it, but it'd be very hard. I'm not saiyng single segment is impossible, but prepared to play extremely defensively (my term for avoiding death/getting hit) not take big risks all the time, because you're looking at a 4+ hour run and any huge mistake after 1-2 hours is gonna blow the whole run.

And that is not to mention the ridiclous amount of planning, as I have just found out.

You would have to do the minigame with the baby Globox's after EVERY (iirc) stage if you did 100%. The minigame takes forever to do, and would be very wasteful of time.

One thing I just remembered about the minigame is that, on the PC version it causes the game to freeze. There is no way once you beat the minigame to return to the game itself, I remember having to shut down and restart the game. Maybe this is just PC releated, but something to think about.
fuck you i wont do what you tell me

There isnt a rayman game that i've played that is easy to speedrun. Rayman advance is insane. I was thinking of it, but there is no way that anyone could do all of that in one sitting. :|

no rayman games can really be SS'd without being insane or compeltely obsessed.

Hm, in the future I might look at the Rayman Advance, since I could in theory make a run with that...

I'd say that the game itself has less intense action/crazy stuff happening at once than, say, Mario 64 or Zelda 64, but this is such a HUGE game and very difficult at many parts that yes any speedrun, single segment, is very difficult. I'd be suprised if anyone could memorize the locations of every single Lum for 100%, or to simply get through an any% in one sitting.

But as I've iterated, I'm not trying to disuade anyone.

o_O

wow, he's always been hard for me. Tongue

rayman advance is another one of those games that you have to pick up every single item to complete it (in this case every single lum cage has to be smashed).

though if you were doing a no boss run (just to the last level), you could skip a bunch of them (namely the entire music section).

Oof, I've been procrastinating from coming up with the list of 190 Lums to skip... it does seem a little daunting, even though I have a complete list of all 550 Lums.

I'm probably gonna grab dinner, then spend the rest of tonight trying to figure it out. if all else fails, by the end of the weekend I should have a definite list of all skipped Lums.

Good luck with those.
It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
Just calculated every Lum that has either a definite skip or a skip with '?'... 146 Lums. So I have 44 more that I can skip.

Maybe you could skip some in the later, more difficult levels.

EDIT: Wait, what I mean is, the earlier levels you could get more since the Lums aren't too well hidden and aren't out of the way (much) so you could just skip the ones in later levels that have harder to find and more out of the way Lums.

Yes, that holds true in most cases. Well, for example Fairy Glade there's like 20 I want to skip, and some in the later levels actually are easier to get... I'll figure it out, I just need to look carefully at which Lums really sound like they're off the beaten path, maybe skip a few more cages, and we'll see. I'll figure it out.

Don't the lums go towards you if you're close enough? They can't be "off-path", can they?

Only the ones in some cages do, and you have to get pretty close for them to come near you (just did some testing of that in the Bayou.) In fact, the trigger to make them come towards you is so close you might as well just go and grab them, if you are going to. Which I'm not, I'm probably going to disregard all cages with 3 or less Lums in them, unless they are DIRECTLY on the way.

As soon as I finish Fairy Glade I'll see if I can get an AVI
It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
It is unfortunate but I may be giving up this run... interest was not at stake, there were too many desynchs while making the movie and it's not as fast/action packed as I would have hoped. I know it does later on, but it was taking forever just to finish the Fairy Glade (which I didn't even finish) and planning all Lums to skip was taking a lot of time too. The biggest reason however was finding a different game to work on Tongue (Starcraft 64)

I hope my strategies that I've supplied with Lum counts can be used, and I hope to continue to offer input and strategies here. I'll see if I can make an AVI of where I had stopped.

Atleast do it bit by bit.

Yes, I would also like to see what you have managed. My side hasn't been going very far because of what is going on within our house.

I'm find slightly less time play games, nevertheless speed run. Heck I might have to try being nocturnal for awhile so that I can do speed runs without being distracted.
It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
Because I'm making the movie on an emulator, desynchs are occuring alot... a friend had tried doing Majora's Mask and was having similar problems, he got 28 desynchs in a 15 minute section. Seeing how the movie is going to be 4ish hours, I'd rather wait until that can be fixed. Plus, the Lum planning was extremely difficult, I still have yet to find those last 44 Lums to skip, and quite frankly Starcraft 64 has taken my full interest because it'll be nonstop lightning speed action. I will not fully abandon this run however, and I'll work on making an AVI to show what I had done; as well as contribute here frequently, since I made rough plans on how to beat each level quickly plus good overall speedrunning stretegies.
Speed Running Joy-bringer
I wonder if desynching is linked to the computer's processing power. I've tried creating TAS somewhat (Not nearly in the "useful" type), but then right away, desyncs and now the player(s) are jumping at a wall constantly etc.

But it wouldn't make sense either.
It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
It's based on the emulator being extremely slow and lacking debugging features, not CPU speed. And Rayman has a very weird hit detection against corners and walls, in that you have to be very far away from walls and corners or else you will brush against them, and a one frame difference occurs alot, so in laggy parts when meeting corners or walls it desynchs very easily.
CTTR Master and Spyro 2 Master
Just do it normally then.
