I don't even know if I can execute unused code at all. Just saying, these things you see are flickering at seemingly random rates. And if something appears, it's only for 1 frame. Also, moving the mouse cursor to one of those spots is way harder than it seems. The mouse is invisible at all times. If I click at the top of the screen, it minimizes the game. But when my mouse cursor is in front of a spot where this Japanese stuff appears, it does flicker at that spot (but still at a random rate). I don't actually know if clicking at that point even does anything, and in practice it's nearly impossible to find out what you're looking at. I did notice I was able to drag the window (with the imputs) around, so maybe if I could make that visible at all times, I may be on to something. When it comes to the bleeping, I think maybe when that's active, you may be able to insert code, just maybe. As far as this craziness goes in general, the only strange thing that happened was that when I did the Double Death Glitch, when Rayman became frozen, his health bar didn't drop to 0 and the background music was gone (but it may've been coincidence). I should also note that this Japanese side-effect stuff disappears when I go through a loading zone. And that Jano sillyness, I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with that.

Also, regarding my silly race idea. I'd rather do this whenever you tell me that you want to. No matter what, I'm always able to race at Saturdays. So if you feel like it, just give a sign...
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
That's pretty weird. My guess is that the Japanese text doesn't actually mean anything in Japanese; it's just data of some kind that's being interpreted as Japanese characters.

Maybe... The characters next to the numbers do occasionally change. I do think it's very interesting thing to find though, and makes me think there's some way to make use of it... And right here I actually got them to in order vertically instead of horizontal for some reason :

Selecting anything is beyond my abilities as far as I can say Tongue

EDIT: I found out that this text most likely simplified Chinese, because when the game is active, I could make the taskbar come up (while flickering) and it had several Chinese things on it, and the keyboard thing was automatically set to simplified Chinese

On the taskbar I found some options that are only present when I get the flickery Chinese stuff:

From there I'm able to change the keyboard setting thing to other languages (even though if you do that, it'll just switch back if you re-trigger the flickery text within the game). Further the option to the right is the "Option Menu", which I got these windows out of:

I don't know these options are about, but I know for sure that the flickering text in the game was not caused by me holding Shift. But it's also weird that after playing for so long, it only started showing up two weeks ago and shows up at random times alot ever since. The fact that this only shows up during gameplay, makes me think there's some way to write code or something (like with the numbered menus or something). On the other hand, it changes something in the settings of stuff that has nothing to do with the game, so I don't know.

EDIT: I don't think this will affect the game in any way. It's just some Chinese Phrase Tool and the text thing with the imputs was just part of that. Why this even activates during the gameplay is a mystery. So never mind Tongue

Yeah I might want to race tomorrow. There is a new-ish player, ThatGermanGuitarDude who has a 2:22 or something, so I am probably gonna try to catch up with my times since I have not played in a long time. But, you never know, I might be down for a race.

Heh, sorry for me being too active. That's actually not the only thing I found. In Iron Mountains there's this really silly thing where if you're at Uglette's general area, you see a bit of cutoff in the death water. If you jump past that point, you actually land on the same death water, except that it has sliding physics. What's hilarious is that the barriers can actually be hit by your shots. But when you slide against that barrier, you fly ALL THE WAY back, like it has some insane force field and the first time that happened, I flew out of bounds.

And I found out that cutscenes that trigger by walking into a trigger box, give you 1 frame of opportunity to walk forward and hold F1, but it's very tight. If you do this the first time you trigger the Jano cutscene, you can jump into the portal to shink yourself in size after the cutscene. Afterwards the physics feel pretty weird Tongue . I'm hoping this method can also be applied with Mask-cutscenes (where you get the mask) and maybe you can make the game send you to the wrong cutscene (of course that's what I'm hoping Tongue )

I'll be on Skype on Saturday, so I'll be there if you feel ready. I honestly don't think you need to practice though. It's just for fun and as I said, it's not going to become a serious race. Serious races that go all the way to the end, can be saved for later...

Hm, can you make a video for that iron mountains thing? That confused me so much Cheesy
Quote from KirbyComment:

So from this state, after trying a bunch, I actually got past the part where I was at the danger of death-warping and crashing my game. But, I'm now truly convinced that it's literally impossible to even reach Jano's cutscene at all.

Reason for that is the loading-zone, except that this loading-zone triggers objects and sprites to load when you get to a close enough spot. And beforehand I actually noticed that if you make the portal behind Jano despawn (because you triggered the cutscene) you can walk past the really dark spot (that's on the way to Jano, right where Zombie Chickens spawn) to make it respawn, meaning that must be a trigger box for things to load. For that reason, when I went into the double-Rayman-glitched state, the game thinks Rayman is at the spot where he's frozen (except for the End-button), so when I finally managed to get past the troubling part, when I got past that trigger box for stuff to load that's up ahead, I think it caused the Rayman I had control over to deload! All my imputs that would make that Rayman move stopped working and the movement-imputs when I'm in first-person-view stopped working as well (unless I pause-buffer a directional so that when I unpause, it keeps going in that direction, even when I let go of that direction).

This is as far as I got. This view, the left side of it is the area of the trigger box and going to the right is where Zombie Chickens would spawn. These did actually spawn when pressing End, so those load, but Rayman unloads. Either that or that area failed to load and Rayman fell into an endless void Tongue

I should also note that the Mask-cutscenes don't do anything different when gaining control in them. Death-warping there doesn't do anything strange. Which means that my era of F1-shenanigans has ended. I do however still have 2 TAS-only theories. One being triggering Jano's cutscene while being in Ssssam's. And the second one is while having control during the first Teensies and/or first mask-cutscene, you death-warp and respawn on the same frame as when a loading screen pops up.

I thought I would bump the topic since I've picked the game back up again and have decided to try more single segment attempts. I have a bit more free time and winter break is coming next month so I'm hoping to improve my pb and work towards a 2:04-2:05. What has everyone been up too? Have you had any luck with your 100% runs Manocheese?

Btw, I always thought you had to go all the way around the circle in tomb of the ancients to hit the bottom switch from above…

Good to hear. I've been in the process of moving lately, so that has kept me busy. I'm done now, though, so I'll be able to dive back into 100% soon. I know I've said that before, but I'm pretty certain this time that I'll have a good amount of time to spend working on the game.

I just completed an attempt ten minutes behind my pb (2:13). It is my first full run through since last playing in august so I'm not surprised with how terrible it went. Also, that dvd recorder you mentioned earlier in the thread is out of stock . :/ I'm hoping more come in soon cause amazon has it listed at $400 new compared to the $228 at wal-mart.
Hey! Nice to see some activity again. I've not been very productive with Rayman 2, really. I've been a bit busy lately and whenever I had the chance of playing Rayman 2, I ended up doing other stuff instead. I did actually realize that I never tried applying the Hold Head Glitch at the cutscene you'd skip anyways (Baby Globox cutscene that is). So apparently it's 100% consistent if I hold F1 as I climb up the ledge and hold diagonal up-left. You can actually interrupt the cutscene (similar to when I tried that cutscene skip in the Canopy) and it's possible to overlap the cutscene with the Teensies cutscene if you've already broken the cage ahead of time (without 5 Lums). It doesn't really accomplish anything aside from me being amused by the fact that Rayman learns the electric slide Tongue .

I also found a slightly faster way of going out of bounds in Menhir Hills 1. You would hold F1 to make the barrel clip you through the wall. This would work for both Any% and 100%. Only problem is, in Any% it's consistent, but only saves 1-2 seconds at best and the 100% method is incredibly inconsistent, but saves 6-7 seconds or so. I wonder if I should post these 2 things I found...

As far as runs go, when I find myself getting bored, I'll probably try to improve my 100% time one more time and then I may try out Any%...

I did a little research on this just now. It seems there's a new model:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Magnavox-MDR557H-F7-1TB-Hard-Drive-DVD-Recorder-with-Digital-Tuner/36246088

Unfortunately, it's $328, and they probably won't be making the old ones any more. However, you could get a refurbished old one from Walmart for $208:

I am getting bored of rayman 2 a little, maybe I should just finish a run so I have that competitive part of it back, considering I haven't finished a run since June. School is keeping me busy and I am constantly tired so I usually don't get time for a run without interruption. I also don't have a chair to sit in, just my bed which is far away so I can't really sit in it for a 2+ hour run. I might want to try multi segment considering only 1 person has done it, and I think 2 or sub 2 is possible that way.

Thanks for the links Manocheese. I'll most likely get the refurbished recorder.

A Segmented run would be really challenging if you were to use the fastest strats possible. For instance the first segment includes the auto jump on the slide escape, the murphy text skip and the ledge jump to the baby globox ledge. I would reset if any of them were missed. I always felt with segmented runs you should use all the fastest strats since you can retry as many times as you want. You would also have to do some lum re-routing if you want to use the whale bay lamp jump and the walk underwater trick after saving Carmen. Those two tricks skip 20 lums (10 each) and the walk underwater trick only saves 10 seconds (even less if you count for the time it takes to gather ten extra lums).
BLARGHHH
True. As I said though, I MIGHT do it, I'm still not sure. It would be cool to see the time I get from it but there would be a lot of extra work going into it.

I have a question regarding gameshark codes and this game. I entered an infinite health code so I could practice the blue orb early trick but I can't put the game in high resolution mode, so practicing the trick with infinite health is useless. Does anyone know a way around this? I have the enable code and infinite health code on.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I think some of the codes make the game think you have a Jumper Pak instead of an Expansion Pak. This prevents you from using high resolution while the codes are active. In this case, my advice is to do the sliding section first. Then if you run out of health, you'll spawn in the same room. It's not quite as convenient as having infinite health, but it's better than starting back at the orange orb room when you get a game over.

Here you go, Unreal!

Some more things to add to this. The clip requires holding your head I'm pretty sure. And on Any% it works pretty consistently, but only saves like 2 seconds and on 100% it saves 5-7 seconds, but is everything but consistent (because of the camera angle, probably).

During cutscene storage you can't shoot. So you can't shoot the cage during this to like get 2 cutscenes at once (which would be interesting if you could). You can do the shooting animation and once you did it once, you can't do it again until you grab the two walls.  And walking the other way of storing the cutscene doesn't seem to work. Also, the text disappears when you exit the world.

The glitch with the flying shell works with the walking shell, but is nearly impossible to trigger for some reason. But I did find an alternative way of making 2 Raymans (sort of). It might be possible on N64 since this method doesn't require holding your head... If you get the glitch with the F1-method, if you death-warp afterwards, the camera focuses on the shell and that's apparently far enough from Rayman's spawning point that he's not loaded. Even if I press End to get the camera to go to him, he won't move at all, nor can I hear him do anything.

I found the part with the shell in the Prison Ship humorous. What happens when you open the cage with the Teensies when you have the baby globox cutscene stored? Did you try holding F1 while breaking the cage? Maybe you could find a way to enter the warp early. Although I doubt that would work but you never know.

As I described below the video, you can't shoot during Cutscene Storage. You can do the shooting animation and once you do it and you can't do that animation again until you grab the 2 walls before the second cage. So you can't stack 2 cutscenes on top of each other. I should also note when I did the glitch I had already finished Woods of Light. I just skipped the cutscene and broke the cage. And I don't think you can skip the Baby Globox cutscene, then trigger the Teensies cutscene (with the F1-glitch active) and then walk far enough away to gain control of the camera so you can trigger the Baby Globox cutscene, but I'm not entirely sure. That would probably the only way to stack 2 cutscenes. There aren't that many cutscenes I can think of where it's actually possible to interrupt the cutscene (just because you're very likely to fall off some ledge or something and you can't see what you're doing).
Bruh-zilian speedboy
Really glad to see a lot of people still working on this game. I loved it as a kid and i'd love to get another cart to try and speedrun it. The glitches seem a bit complicated, but i think i should try and do my first run in a few weeks. Best of luck to everyone currently breaking this game.
I can confirm that you can actually store the Teensies cutscene and from there lap it over with the Baby Globox cutscene. There are alot of different results you get out of this (even without overlapping the cutscenes), but basically if you store one cutscene and trigger it again, as long as the cutscene has skippable text, you can advance the text whenever you want, so if I stored text 30 seconds into a cutscene, I would be able to advance it on the first second of the cutscene once I trigger it again. And doing so, when I did it a certain way the first time, I actually got stuck with a Teensie talking forever, and it actually started showing the text of the opening cutscene. So apparently I ended up in the opening cutscene, while still showing the stored cutscene. I guess because I advanced text too early, there wasn't any more text to use, so it took the text from the opening cutscene. And after the amount of time that it would take to end that cutscene, my game crashed. I don't really understand this glitch in it's entirety, but if we can get different kinds of text and actually load a different part of the game, we may be able to do interesting stuff...
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Interesting... Keep us posted on anything else you find.
