I like that mini-boss strategy; definitely going to incorporate that in my runs. It looks safe and looks like something that can be done consistently. I doubt you would have enough time to charge up a shot while floating cause he will end up hitting you.

Does that method always work for you to get the mega jump while sliding? That's awesome that you have figured out how it works. I'm going to practice that and see if I can get it consistently.

EDIT: Here is my video response to your strategies cheese. The first one I showcase the mega jump going down the whole first half of the second section of Prison ship to the second switch. If you hold diagonal up-right or up-left, it will put Rayman in the position he needs to be in to mega jump.

The second is a riskier strategy for the mini-boss. If you stand at that same corner of the box that I do, the pirate will not fall on top of you. There is a chance of him dropping behind you or on top of the box depending on how you are positioned. If he drops behind you, it is ok because if you hold Z while standing still, Rayman will turn around and face the pirate so you can shoot him. Whats cool is that the pirate's flame doesn't hit you until after a second of shooting. This gives you enough time to turn around and shoot him while holding Z.

Good stuff. Your miniboss strategy seems like it might be pretty consistent with practice. Another possible strategy is to stand on top of the corner of the large box. From there, the miniboss will never land on you and I think you can hit him no matter where he lands (with your strategy, there are a couple places where you can't hit him). The only problem is that the spot where you need to stand on the box is pretty small.

Ah, that's a good idea I'm going to try that. He does land on top of the box sometimes and I am not able to hit him. I'll give your idea a try. I'll get to practice on my n64 since my tv has arrived. Smiley I am now awaiting the ez-cap so I can start recording my attempts.

edit: I have a question about the trick when you receive the elixir and rayman will fall through the floor. Whenever I hold up Rayman glitches out of the cutscene and then I have to watch him float in the air for a while until he can death warp after the cutscene. Do you guys hold up immediately as the cutscene starts or before? I tried immediately and Rayman still glitches out and he was stuck in the air.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
As soon as I say that I don't want the treasure, I hold up until Rayman falls through the floor. This works 100% of the time for me.

What mano said, and don't press A  or anything, i did that once and it messed with it really hard, also if the cut scene starts and you havt started holding forward, don't try to hold forward and save it, you will liking make it go to a green screen, for a while, idk its weird.
Edit: So I just had the green screen thing happen again last night, and I continued to hold up, and the result was either completely normal timed death warp anyway, you just cant see the cut scene, or even faster, because you cant see anything and it could reduce lag or something, idk it would be minuscule, still interesting though.

Usually if I hold forward during the cutscene I am stuck in the air for a while until I death warp, costing me a few seconds. Thanks for letting me know guys. Also, that setup you have for the water and ice orb skip is really consistent for me yoshi. You think you could make a video of it for reference?

Edit: I have a couple other questions. I noticed that the picture is not completely centered on my tv and I have to adjust it every time I start up the game. If I don't adjust the screen, will that effect the video when I start recording? I'm guessing it would. My tv is set on widescreen, maybe that has something to do with it? If I set it to normal there is still a little bit on gray you can see on the bottom of the picture. Even if I adjust it, there would still be a bit of on the top. Basically, I cannot center the picture so it is fully centered. Would a run get rejected because I would not be able to fully center my screen?

Manocheese, how did you get that auto jump at the beginning of the prison escape on your 2:17 run? Did you just walk out of the tunnel? Can you get this consistently?

It sounds like the problem is with your TV. The recording itself will probably turn out okay as long as you don't change the settings in the game. Your run won't be rejected unless a significant portion of the screen is cut off. I suggest making a test recording to make sure everything works.

I think you just have to walk out of the tunnel and land on a certain spot on the ground. I used to get it pretty consistently back then, but I haven't been getting it much lately. Maybe I'll practice it.

Just got a 2:13:10.4 (SDA) timing

I lost a most of my time in the sanct W & I, canopy, precipice, and tomb of the ancients.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Nice time. Keep playing and I'm sure you can get it lower. Sub-2:10 is possible.

Yup thats my end goal, my segemented is 2:07:35ish Cheesy

Edit: I dont have a segmented run to show, Its just the sum of my best splits from runs, aswell as practice, and its an estimate because I increased the time a bit on some splits that were with different lum routes, that said sub 2:06 would be possible segmented, assuming you do a different lum route (echoing caves skip) aswell as foutch skip, tomb jump, perfect luck for all of the clips, and just general good optimized moment

Are you planning on doing a segmented run? I was thinking of doing one but I'm not quite sure yet. Just the thought of the smallest mistake would make me want to restart a segment. I'm kind of a perfectionist so single segments would be more of my forte. Congrats on your new pb! Sub 2:10 incoming!
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
A segmented run would be a pain in this game. Tricks like the Stone and Fire miniboss skip and Echoing Caves door skip would need to be nearly perfect. You'd also need to do things like the Foutch skip and the Whale Bay lamp jump that are too hard for single-segment. It seems like more trouble than it's worth, but if anyone decides to do it, more power to you.

I feel the same way Tongue Im not going to do it as of now, but in the future we will see, I definatly have plans to do make a Tutorial sometime, not soon though.

That's why I'm leaning more towards a single segment. Not to mention, you would have to get the murphy text skip in the fairy glade and in woods of light you should do the quicker method of the baby globox skip. On top of that the murphy text skip and grabbing the ledge after lum 4 first try. Let's not forget about the auto jump on the prison escape. Sounds like hell!

Yep. It seems like the first segment might be one of the hardest.

EDIT: I did a 2:38:23 today.

EDIT2: By the way, Unreal, I tried your 1000th lum trick on N64 and couldn't get it to work. I also tried your Whale Bay pirate strategy and was surprised by how consistent it is. I think I'll start using that in my runs.

Damn it might be emulator only then… Glad you can get that strategy consistently. The only times I have screwed it up is when I throw the keg in the wrong direction.

My capture card came in yesterday so I can start recording my attempts.  I haven't been playing much this week but plan to start back up again.

Yeah, the auto-aim doesn't seem to work very well when you approach from that direction. The door is a pretty big target, though, so manual aiming isn't too bad.

I haven't had any issues yet im around 9/10. The one time I messed up was because I was try to play extra safe and get closer to the door a bit, and as I threw the barrel, the pirate hooked me.

Ok so mano remember when we had the talk about shooting when you jump to save some frames with momentum, Im fairly certain it does save time if you shoot durign the top of your jump, so that when you land, you dont roll, the rolling is whats slow and you lose a little momentum i think.

Hey guys, so here is my quality test. It seems the screen on the bottom and left part are are black so my game screen is not completely centered. It looks like I will have to adjust this before every attempt. It's not even that bad, it just bothers me. <_<

Yoshi, have you timed shooting while jumping vs. rolling? I can see how the rolling can slow your momentum cause t the start of the roll Rayman seems to slow down.

EDIT: I'm sending back my capture card since I believe I bought a faulty piece. There is a lot of noise in the audio and distortion I have not been able to figure out how to fix. I've tried re routing my cables and checked if the connections were loose but I still had the same problem. I'm going to return it and try out the easy cap dc60 that is compatible with Norichan.

That's too bad. I hope the next one is better. The quality test looks fine, though it's hard to say for sure with a YouTube video. When you get the new card, maybe you can upload a quality test to a site like Yousendit.

I didn't notice any difference when I tested it before, but it's possible that I messed up. If the difference is really small, it would be hard to time it without TAS tools. I'll try it again, though.

EDIT: I got the same result again. If there is a difference, it must be pretty small.

If your using amerectv 2.31 it give alot of distortion when the computer cant handle everything, also, I asked a TAS'er for this game Shredwot to see excatly how many frames the shooting does and he said 11... I assume thats 11/60 tho because of emu, 11/30 would seem like too much time lol.

Awesome, I'm glad someone tested this. I always wondered if the language made a difference.
