Amazing run! I love the way you play!

By the way, here are the main differences between each version-

N64-This one has lower quality music than the others. Besides that, in general, it's the same.

PSX- This one has less levels, 800 lums(compared to the 1000, and this number never drops to 799), exclusive characters, and certain level changes(like the fact that the cave of bad dreams entrance is next to Clark instead of in TMOA). Another notable difference is the characters speaking english rather than gibberish.

DC-Simalar to N64, except with the same quality music and with minigames. Also, the Hall of Doors is way different and this version also features a few graphical enhancements.

PC- This one has the best graphics, but suffers from frame rate issues and longer load times.

PS2(Rayman 2: Revolution)- The world map is TOTALLY omitted in this version, and uses an entire world. Also, TCOBD entrence is at the END of the marshes of awakening. Like the PSX version, characters talk English here as well(but you can change this via the options. Just change it to Raymanian:)). Also, after beating Clark, you'll get Lums Radar and the 1000th Lum(in the others, the 1000th lum was in a secret area). The last notable change is the ending. The fireworks part is not here, and the credits show Rayman's friends playing musical insturments.

DS(Rayman DS)- Basically the N64 version, but with touch screen analog. Unfortanetly, the control pad scheme most people perfer is laggy.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I'll add to the above post by noting that the DC version has different enemy and powerup locations.
Why so serious?
I downloaded the run, but when does the audio commentary start? I'm not hearing any of it. Am I just not watching long enough?
Switch the audio to track 2.
Just finished watching, and I have to say, you must be pretty insane to do this single segment.
Just watched. Insane run Cheese, almost everything seemed to go very smoothly. It was great to see you breeze through some of the more difficult parts of the game. Cheesy
I've finally found the time to watch your run. Awesome!
Unbelivable how good you are in some levels that I die almost everytime at least a few times.
There was only one unintended death that wasted only about 5 seconds or so, right?
And nice that you mentioned me in your audio commentary for that shortcut in Tombs of the Ancients, even though you didn't use that one.
But I have a question: You can't skip the big intro cutscene and all the Razorbeard cutscenes on the N64 version?
Because on PC you can. And in your commentary you mentioned this "chase" at the end boss fight, that you have on the PSX version and not the N64. But you have this chase on the PC version as well.
No, you can't skip the first long cutscene. I have tried.(I own the PC and PS2 versions, and my friend owns the N64 version)

I got confused with the PSX version, on PC you don't have this chase as well, but you can still skip the intro cutscene and the first razorbeard cutscene by pressing enter.

edit:

Oh my god, on the PSX version you can skip almost every cutscene.

A glitch found by igotsthepower9000:

It looks like it's possible to use this to skip Cave of Bad Dreams and all the associated stuff (both Clark cutscenes, Cave guardian cutscenes, Hall of Doors trekking). The drawback is that some slower Lums will be needed, but the benefit would almost certainly outweigh the cost. Over the weekend, I'll do some testing with this.
Awesome! Grin
I'm looking forward on a report if you really can use this trick to skip the Cave of Bad Dreams.
By the way, are you thinking of doing a segmented any% or 100% run?
It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
That is incredibly strange. I hope it can be used to skip the cave of bad dreams; collecting slower lums is ALWAYS better when skipping an entire slow stage.
Yarr
Clark is in a different part of the level, so I think that whenever you go there you'll get the cutscene. You should try this in other levels to see if it works without a torch present. I'm thinking about the big door in The Sanctuary of Water and Ice, get a powder keg and get hit by the pirate. Then you can also see if your superman powers carry over to the next level part. Imagine just flying over Axel!  Tongue

I did some testing and the third area of the Menhir Hills did not load. This is what I expected when I first saw the video, but then I saw this video, in which the third area does load. Maybe this is a version difference, or maybe it has to do with whether or not you have given the potion to Clark. I'm going to test this some more.

Quote from djcj:
By the way, are you thinking of doing a segmented any% or 100% run?

No, I don't think I'll run this game again. If someone else does a run, though, I'll help as much as possible.

EDIT: I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I am 99% sure that it is possible to skip Cave of Bad Dreams. The bad news? I don't think it's possible on the N64 version. Look at this video, around 6:50 into it:

Notice how there is no fade screen... This indicates to me that in the DC version, the second and third areas of Menhir Hills were combined into a single area. This allows one to fly past the Clark room and load the final area. On the N64, the increased separation of areas prevents this. Now, look at 5:55 here:

Same thing: no fade screen. So I believe that Cave of Bad Dreams can be skipped on the DC and PC versions, but not the N64 version (probably not the DS version either). I have no idea about PS or PS2. If someone has the DC, PC, DS, PS, or PS2 versions, could they test those? Thanks. I'll send a PM to Saestrol about testing on the DC version.
Speed Running Joy-bringer
I just got the PM and I'm going to go and try this glitch out later on in the Menhir Hills. I have flown outside of the level before and found that you can clip through walls while flying like that.

I saw one video using the glitch where as soon as it triggered, the cut-scene began with Clark. I'm thinking the same thing might happen so I'll hopefully find out if I can go past that part.

If you do the sequence break here, you HAVE to fly to the Stairway and enter it. It fades because I cut loading screens out in those videos. I've found that the DC version loads some parts of a level as a whole, whereas N64 and possibly PC versions do have to stop the game and load those parts separately.

(...yes I still lurk around here a lot... lol I'm not dead I swear!)

I would try this myself but I'm to busy to do so. I'm pretty sure that there isn't a loading screen between those parts in the PC version.

@Saestrol: could you try out the superman trick in the Fairy Glade? After you've climbed the spider web and met Murfy there is a powder keg dispenser with two pirates present. If it works, you could try if it carries over to the next part (and thereby skipping Ly ;D).

Edit: nvm, I saw this video you made, looks like you can't exit the level while flying. You could probably get the green lum and kill yourself though.

Speed Running Joy-bringer
About the Powdered Keg Glitch:

It appears that the glitch will only activate if you are in an area where lighting it on fire is possible and have done so first. So far, that is limited to Menhir Hills, Echoing Caves and possibly the Tomb of Ancients. I tried Whale Bay but there is no nearby fire. Echoing Caves wouldn't be too much use aside for show because it's only in the last area you can do it. The Tomb would be the MOST useful, but the pirate is too far away to trigger the glitch.

Edit: Watch this video: cointains 4 attempts from a new game. This shows what happens when you try to leave the area. The cutscene triggers anyway, making it almost impossible to move forward. It's stranger still because it triggers almost anywhere you try to leave the level.

I've gone pretty far back in the hills and still triggered the cutscene. I'm going to try again later today and see if I can get all the way back to the entrance. The camera goes screwy the farther you go.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
In case anyone tries a run (and djcj seemed to show interest), here are some tricks I saw on YouTube:

Hit a switch in Tomb of the Ancients quickly (#2)

Jump out of Carmen's cage

Out of bounds in Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava
Sorry, I'm not much interrested in running the full game. But I'm planning to run the WoL on the PSX (PAL) version (level design is different from the N64/PC version). My current record is 1:23.60, but I didn't record it. Do you think that's fast or has anyone a faster time? For me getting 1:25 is quite easy, 1:24 takes a lot of retries and sub 1:24 is hardcore.
I'm doing a 100% run. But I don't know how to skip the Globoxes in the woods of light. Is it even possible in the pc version?
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Here are two ways to do it:

I used the second method in my run because I think it's easier, but try both of them. The second uses trigger hopping, which I explain in my run comments. Basically, when you land in a "trigger zone" that activates a cutscene, there is a short window of time before the cutscene starts playing during which you can jump.

Can you tell us more about your run? Will it be segmeted or single-segment, and what tricks will you be using that weren't in my any% run? It's probably a good idea to make a topic on the PC board to see if anyone knows anything about the PC version that doesn't apply to the other versions.

I expect 20 segments.
I can't use tricks that skip parts of levels because I need 100%.
I tried to skip the globoxes but it's hard. I managed to do it only once in 11 tries and I forgot to record.
It's a lot slower than your run. Especially the sanctuary of stone and fire and the tomb of the ancients will cost much time because of the huge amount of side areas.
I've got some times.
The marshes: 3.18
The bayou: 5.26
The walk of life: 2.42
The two levels before this I need to do faster (skipping the globoxes).
I can skip the intro of some of the levels.

I lost the first part of the first (and one of the longer) segments. The file just dissapeared. Sad

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I've been working on a potential timesaver in Sanctuary of Stone and Fire. I think it may be possible to use a wall jump (like the one used to skip the miniboss) to jump up to the top level of the boss room. If we can get the blue orb before the orange orb, perhaps we won't need the orange orb. Even if we do need the orange orb, though, this trick could still save several minutes because we could skip the sliding section leading to the blue orb.

It's possible to get wall jumps off the corner next to the blue pedestal. I've gotten very close to reaching the ledge this way:

Here's where I jumped from to get that high:

I've looked at the wall jumps I've gotten frame by frame. It seems that you land close to the ground, then get lifted up for a few frames, then fall down. Ideally, you want to jump on the last frame before you fall.

I'm going to continue working on this. Others can feel free to try it as well.

EDIT: Someone on YouTube found a glitch in the PC version that lets you skip hiding in the bush in the Canopy. The glitch also works in the N64 version. I made a video:

Hi everybody, I'm currently working on an any% run on PC, My current time is 2h50min and 45 sec.
I'm pretty happy with this time because I've done it with a lot of mistakes and also without using a lot of simple skip I've discovered today.
I'm working hard on it, my next goal is a sub 2h30.
If you want some news, just tell me ( I twitch all my attempts and training Smiley )

Hi Mamilami, and good luck on your runs, I too have started running Rayman any% but on the N64, This is my progress so far:

learned up through the Sacntuary of Stone & Fire
the glitches/expolits I use

-attempt to murfy skip whenever possible
-globox babies skip ofc (Ive found another way of doing it that is even more reliable but wastes more time, so i dont do it in attempts)
-I use 3 barrels in the Fairy Glade boss
-door skip in Sanct of Water & Ice (my best time for run once this level is completed is 34:10 about a minute and a half from wr? the skip took 20-30 seconds saves much more though)
-I use 2 skulls in cave of bad dreams boss starting platform, and return before they fall, its fairly reliable to!
-I could not get the door bush skip forwhatever reason, i will do more testing, but i do pickup all the lums in this area they are fast.
-In whale bay i tested the swimmless exploit and found to be not worth it, because of the lost lums, it can be found here

-Now for the miniboss skip, ive been trying for quite a while and not succeeded yet, I am hoping Manocheese could give me a few pointers
-I started the echoing caves to see if i could get the glitch at start and i was able to a few times, but this is as far as ive gone with my learning.

If there are any glitches that i didn't mention, that are in Manocheese's run, I probably forget to say them, and i will be doing them.
I will start streaming my attempts soon at http://www.twitch.tv/cloakedyoshi if you are interested, my major issue right now is getting the miniboss skip down.
I will keep you all updated as I progress Cheesy
