Awesome.  It's been years since I played this game (a rental), and I can't wait to watch it again.
Why so serious?

YES YES YES YES YES!!!! Finally a Rayman run! Get it up NOW!
Congrats on the finish! Looking forward to it! Cheesy
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Thanks, everyone. The run is up for verification now.

While we're waiting, let's talk about how different the N64 version is to PSX.

Basically, for those who don't know, Rayman 2 on PSX is quite different. Whale Bay is considered the Sanctuary of Water and Ice, so it is the level before the first door. And it does not appear later in the game.

There is no Top of the World.
There is no Iron Mountains.
The Grolgoth fight is radically different. Instead of the N64 version, you follow him down a tube while he attacks you, like a Star Fox boss.
There are only 800 lums.

Well, the PC version has some bugfixes. For example, I can't seem to roll through closed doors like Manocheese does in his run. But maybe that's just me, I've tried the Sanctuary of Water & Ice and the Echoing Caves. Also, there are more green lums on the PC version.

Congrats on the run manocheese!!!  Cheesy And I was wondering, you didn't use my foutch boss skip did you? IIRC I remember you saying it was too risky.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
It was too risky. Here are the significant tricks I didn't use (IIRC):

Water and Ice orb skip
Cave of Bad Dreams boss trick
Whale Bay lamp jump
Foutch skip
Tomb of the Ancients switch skip (I didn't use the harder of the two death warps either)
Iron Mountains jump over fence

That seems like a lot, but some are really late in the run and the rest are just difficult. The orb skip in Sanctuary of Water and Ice is one that I really wanted to add, but I couldn't get it consistently enough.
Yarr
Jump over fence? You mean the fence near the robo-ape?
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Yeah, that one. It is actually the easiest trick on that list, but it is dangerous enough that I've died there in run attempts. Besides, it saves a rather small amount of time.

I finally got around to spending some time on The Walk of Power. My best time is now 1:27.56. I'd like to improve it a bit more, but for now my DVD recorder is shot (I discovered that my discs were not the source of the problem I mentioned earlier). It will probably be some time before I have a new one. So, I think I will submit this time and 1:29.59 for The Walk of Life.
Speed Running Joy-bringer
That's a very impressive time. I can't believe how close it was to being lost but it looks like Rayman 2 will finally get it's chance on the site.

I want to see the run real badly now. Great stuff there and congrats

You can skip Foutch? How?
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Well, it looks like Unreal deleted the video for some reason. But you need to go to the web that Foutch is on at the beginning of the battle, bounce up, grab the edge through the rail, pull yourself up, then run and hope Foutch doesn't kill you before you fall down the hole.

It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH

AndrewG and I just did the orb skip today on accident, when I was trying to show him going through doors for the game (funnily enough, I was having a harder time doing the easier door skip in the echoing caves!) The skip is so close to the beginning of the level that I can do a lot of testing to try and find some consistencies for execution if you want, for inclusion of a future run.

Edit: I think I'm beginning to have this trick nailed. In a 10minute span, I went through the floor 5 times, and went through the wall (and back) twice.

All right, the run is up!

Hi! I'm andrewg!
Manocheese, I can't find it!  Wink

heh, congrats on the run. comicalflop has gotten me a bit interested in this title.

But... but... but... it's 3D!

Anyway, I can't believe you only had two unintentional deaths in that entire run - and none of them occured in the last level! I've been seeing a lot of really awesome tricks in speedruns recently, and hopping through the floor in front of the door to skip the whole level was totally unexpected and great.
Your audio commentary is pretty informative, even though you go silent for all the cutscenes. I had no idea you were skipping as many things as you were.
Oh, and your voice is so manly. Grin

Congratulations for your run getting posted!  Grin
You did that run on PSX, right?
But why isn't it listed in an own category, since the PC version sometimes is completely different (and I think the other versions are too)?
Anyway, I have to find the time to watch your run.

edit:

I see, it's done on N64.
Yarr
I PMed Mikwuyma earlier about the differences between the N64 and the PC, but it's still the same category? AFAIK the door skipping glitches don't work in the PC version. Anyway, congratulations on your new run!
My feelings on The Demon Rush
No, I just forgot to list the runs separately since you PMed me a while ago, and some of the other verifiers took a while to respond. I can put up a notice on the page later today. BTW, do the door skipping glitches only work in the N64 version?
Yarr
I could test it on the DS version. I don't know about the Dreamcast or PSX.
It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
My intuition tells me that the glitches all work the same across all platforms, because they use the same engine (or at least are all ports. Some added features, but the mechanics stay the same.)

For instance, the PC is exactly the same as the N64 version, and I think some of the tricks were found by the guy who uses the PC version.

Now, here's some of my findings for the sanctuary of water and ice skip:

-Getting into the floor occurs way more frequently then going through the door does. In a 1 hour period of testing, I got into the floor 20+ times, and through the door twice. This isn't a good thing.
-The problem with this is that I've yet to find a way to go from OoB back into bounds on the other side of the door without dying. If you do the trick, there's good odds it will result in going through the floor and you have a wasted attempt. (Not a problem for segmented, since it's wicked early in the segment.) If you so choose, you can attempt the trick again, since you warp kinda close to the door; but that's not ideal.
-One interesting thing I've found is that sometimes my success increases when at the peak of my jump, pressing B to shoot, so that as I fall I shoot. This seems to change Rayman's hitbox somewhat, and I've gotten into walls at different angles/heights/approaches this way. More experimenting on what shooting does to rayman's hitbox is needed.
-At the far right corner of the door there is a tiny invisible block. You can stand on top of this block. I think this block is the key.
-When you do the trick, you jump and land on the other side of the block, which squeezes you into the seams. I appear to be able to do this most when I'm standing on top of this block. I think this is how the trick works.
-What direction when you're facing when you land determines whether you go through the floor or the door. If you point yourself inwards towards the door, you'll roll through. If you're facing parallel to the door or outwards, through the floor you go and to your impending OoB doom.
-I've gotten most success from getting into the corner, jumping high, and changing my angle of direction that I'm facing. If I jump up, wiggle around a little because of the seams pushing against me, and turn my direction so I'm facing inwards, I seem to do better.

I'll test some more. Any other shortcuts/tricks you want me to experiment with?
That was a great run, and I felt quite nostalgic watching it.

Having played so long ago, I probably missed a lot of your shortcuts and sequence breaks, simply believing them to be normal gameplay.  But I do remember how often I died, especially on vehicles & slides (I really don't like sliding in any game), and it was impressive that you only died twice.

Also, that easter egg in the final fight was awesome.  How on earth was someone supposed to figure that out on his/her own?
Very great run! Can't believe how much work that must have been.  Wink

I don't know, but I've read that trick some years ago on a cheat site, when I was stuck at the boss fight. Don't ask me which page that was though. I was surprised he didn't know that. Wink
