Hmm... well not to make this dead or anything but I can't wait to see this game runned.

I'm playing through it right now, and it's fencing me future ideas (should I ever come up with a method of doing runs in the future).
Found two timesavers on the PC version:

I came close to finding that tomb of the ancients one. I barely made it but gave up on it. Nice finds.

Nice finds, djcj. Someone told me that they knew of a glitch for infinite ammo in the final battle. He said he'll post it here:

EDIT: Here's what he said:

Quote:
Hi Cheeseoman.
Do you know the unlimited ammo thing in the final battle with Razorbard on the PC version?
It also works on the N64 version. When you come to the flying shell part, fly to the top. While you fly up, press B and C repedately. (sorry for my bad english)

It doesn't look like I'll be able to work on my run until the summer. Sad It has been on the back burner recently, if it has been on the grill at all. But it will be top priority once classes are out!

EDIT2: Since OOB is allowed now, the Sanctuary of Water and Ice orb skip may be viable for an SS. I mentioned earlier how it sometimes forces you out of bounds, but you can still get around... One danger, though, is that if you fall in, it is an instant restart, whereas if you mess up something like the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire miniboss skip, you only lose the time from messing it up. It's a toss-up at this point, so I will wait until I start practicing again to test it out.

EDIT3: Here is the trick:

So, it isn't a glitch at all, but a secret tunnel! Amazing. It might be slower than the regular way to beat him, though.

EDIT4: I tested it and here is a video I made:

I also explain how to do it there. This is definitely faster than the normal way, and it is an awesome easter egg.

EDIT5: Lots of edits. <_< Anyway, I don't know who the original discoverer of this was, but I will credit Janosiadam.

EDIT6: Well, now I found this:

I guess I will give credit to raymanfan596 for posting it and janosiadam for telling me about it... I'll have to mention the confusion.

Small timesaver:

I'm out of school now and hope to finish my run soon. I will have to see what kind of times I get, but I expect somewhere near 2:19:00.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Excited to here that. I'm glad, because I was thinking of sending in my 2:26:56 run, but that would just look like crap compared to what you're about to create(in my defense, I didn't know about a lot of these time savers when I made my run last year.

I was 43 seconds ahead of my 2:21:22 when this happened.

Oops >_>

I was just testing some of the tricks you put on youtube, and it seems that the door skip tricks in the sanctuary of water and ice and the echoing caves don't work on the PC version. The Murfy text skip in the hall of doors does work.

Edit: I don't know if you have seen this video, it looks nice but it might be too hard for an SS.

I tried doing this trick but I couldn't do it. Maybe it's easier on the N64 version, it lets you skip the switch to the left (with the spider and the pirate ship). On the PC version there are green lums near the last two swtches, so it's not easy to use the death warps there.

Are you going to use the Foutch skip in you SS?

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Those two you mentioned might work in the PC version. Keep trying them. Those two videos have been posted here, but I don't plan on using either of them. I'm not using the Foutch Skip.

I finished an attempt today. After a couple deaths, I knew I wouldn't submit, so I started playing sloppily and dying all over the place, but I figured I'd finish anyway to get a better estimate of my target time. I expected to finish in 2:24 or something, but my time was 2:20:14! Sub-2:20 is obviously not a good goal any more. I will count up the approximate amount of time lost in the run and post again.

EDIT: Time lost to deaths was roughly three minutes. My new target time is sub-2:17.
Why so serious?
Are there any videos of any of these runs? I'm dying here! Tongue
It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
I'm also anxious to see any kind of full recorded attempt, no matter the number of deaths/mistakes.

Also, maybe your target time dropping when goofing off means you're getting really good at the game?

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I'm not going to post any full runs until I've finished because they would spoil the real run I submit. I think that the lower time even with more time lost due to death means that the parts where I didn't die were a lot faster.

EDIT: Ugh, an attempt today was going very well up to the Iron Mountains. There was a 5-second death in the Precipice and the Clark battle was pretty terrible. Other than that, it was good. Then I died twice at the same spot in the Iron Mountains! The mistakes mentioned were the only significant ones. My final time was 2:18:42. I'll figure out how much time I lost.
Yarr
Have you made any progress?
Edit history:
Manocheese: 2008-07-02 07:30:15 pm
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Nope. I got to Sanctuary of Stone and Fire today before screwing up the miniboss skip and then dying. I forgot to post how much time I lost in the 2:18:42. I figure I lost 1:22, so without the mistakes I counted, I'd be at 2:17:20. If I do a run that doesn't have any major mistakes and has only a small number of minor ones, I'll submit even if it's not sub-2:17.

EDIT: Strange experience today. I was riding on a walking shell in the Iron Mountains and pressed A twice in quick succession. I got some sort of super high jump. I think both jumps registered. I can't think of any uses for this. The only place it might be useful is the big walking shell area in the Iron Mountains for a 100% run.

I have a time saver theory I was wondering if someone could test out for me. I've noticed several clipping glitches of Rayman rolling into a seam on various doors. Maybe we could do this with the door Clark is sitting next to the first time you encounter him, and therefore skip the medicine sidequest.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
You can't have control of Rayman in that area until you give the Life Potion to Clark. When you go there without it, even if you go back immediately after leaving, a cutscene starts and Clark says, "you forgot my potion lol." Even if it were possible, it wouldn't save as much time as you might think, since you would skip 51 Lums and you'd need to replace them with slower Lums.
Pingas
Oh, I didn't even think about those Lums.

Unrelated: I was watching your video, Manocheese, and maybe you know this already, but it's faster to steer left when you're near the top of the ramp and boost to jump over the gap and ride the...thing down the the switch at the end of the path.

I used to do something like that, but it's easy to mess up and doesn't save much time. Plus, there is a Lum behind that door. Nowadays I always crash into the wall right next to the door to avoid the problem in that video.

I decided to also submit runs of the Time Race levels once I finish my run. I got 1:34.31 on The Walk of Life today. I'll work on The Walk of Power tomorrow. Anyone have any times on these levels?

EDIT: 1:31.05 now on Walk of Life.

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I finished a 2:18:00 today. There were two deaths, both of them in places I had never died before. I also had a bad miniboss battle in the Prison Ship. I'll look at the run later to estimate how much time I lost.

My best time for the Walk of Life is now 1:29.81. Once I improve that time a little, I'll move on to the Walk of Power.

EDIT: 1:29.59 now. I'm done with this level unless someone has a better time (the best time I could find on the Internet was 1:35.80).

EDIT2: I estimated the time lost and it added up to 60 seconds. Sub-2:17 seems unlikely with this in mind, but I'll at least go for low 2:17:xx.

OMG OMG OMG

Oh man, I can't even tell you how excited I am to finish after over a year. There was a disc error with one of the discs of the run. You can imagine how shocked I was, especially since I can count the number of times that has happened with the discs I have used over the past two years on one hand. I couldn't even play the disc in my DVD recorder. Luckily, I was able to recover the files with IsoBuster.

for IsoBuster. **** you to the disc that tried to eat my run. Actually, it might also be my DVD recorder's fault. But what matters is that I have the files now and I'll be contacting Mike soon.
It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
Congratulations Manocheese! I have been waiting for you to finish for a long time, and can't wait for the run to be added to the site!
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
What an amazing time. Almost 10 minutes faster than my old segmented time. I'm glad you finally finished this, since I was starting to think "why didn't I just send in that old run of mine 8 months ago?" Well thankfully it's finally done.

I can't believe both this and Chrono Cross have been finished on the same day. Both of my most anticipated runs have been finished.
1-Up!
Fantastic job Manocheese!

Ive been looking forward to this one for a long time.

Congrats man. Can't wait to see it. Grin
