i tried to find a run for one game of this series but i did not have any luck
does anyone know where to get a run for one of these games?
or is someone trying to do a run?
Thread title:
there will not be a speedrun you can be sure
they are too hard to speedrun
do not think about that you stupid idiot
not even marshmallow could do one i am sure
They can't be THAT hard to speedrun...

...right? Damn I wish I had rented those games when I had the chance.
I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks that they're hard-- I've only played the first in the series, but I kinda gave up in frustration on some level with loads of lobster/crab things all over the place, with planes randomly shooting you down.  I just didn't have the patience to keep restarting from the midway point of the level over and over and over. ^^;  Maybe I was just used to Spyro's simplicity though, rather than having to deal with buying ammo all over the place.

Howeeever, I've found just about every game on SDA 'hard' too... and you know, if people can speedrun Megaman games, then people can -certainly- speedrun this.  In fact, compared to Megaman, R+C should be incredibly simple. ^_^

Oh no, they aren't too hard to speedrun.  Not by far.  I've been practising for a run recently.  I'd like to do all three.  I love these games so hard.  As soon as I figure out how to get the VCR hooked up right I'll start recording some.

There are bunches of little tricks you can do to save time all over the freaking place.  Not jsut limited to jet-boosting everywhere, there are corners to be cut, optional stuff you can skip, and places where if you're cautious it can take more than twice as long as if you just charge in like you're a madman.

I'd be going for an Any% first, then try a 100% simply because getting all the special (gold/platinum/titanium) bolts involves doing some cool things, the skill points are just awesome to watch, and due to the requirements of the game, optimizing the route to get the things could be tricky.  But then, I'm not certain if doing a 100% would put me over the limit or not...

Oh well.  R&C can definitely be speed run.  I'm getting really good at it right now.  The hardest bit isn't surviving... it's collecting enough bolts before each point where you NEED bolts.

it would be really cool if you did one  Smiley
I've only played the first one. And I beat it semi- easily. If you knew what you were doing, you could probably easily do a  run for it.

The bloody bolt collecting is really getting to me.  If I had some infinite bolt trick, I could -sail- through all these levels.  They're so easy to me now that they're hardly a challenge at all.  The trick is optimizing bolt collection.  Really, it is.

Basically, I'm not going to be able to get any special weapons for a LONG while in the game, if ever.  Thankfully, R&C1 was designed with Wrench Only gameplay in mind.  R&C2 and especially 3 go out of their way to make this impossible.  Heck, in R&C1, you get 4 HP... that's it.  You can upgrade this late in the game for an absurd number of bolts, but only to 8 maximum (and 6 at first).  You get so little health, because they expect you to actually NOT GET HIT in the first one.  An amazing concept.  Every enemy has an avoidable attack pattern.  Every enemy is very killable with the wrench only.

I'm still optimizing a route through the early stages.  I'm taking notes on what enemies give the most bolts, and also which box stacks are close enough to on the way to be worth it.

are you still working on it?

I am.  I'm just realizing that being very good at playing a game is totally different from being good at running it.  I can sail through the game in less than 12 hours without breaking a sweat.  The trick is... finding the tricks to lower that time.  I mean, beating a game in 12 hours is fine if all you want to do is beat the game.  Maybe it's even a little short... but that's no speed run.

I'm currently optimizing the best route to clear all of Skid's Sandsharks out, without a flamethrower (which I'd have if I wasn't speedrunning this thing).  The flamethrower makes this section a breeze.  Without it, need a bit more planning.

(So far, my early game plan involves:

Clear Veldin
Visit the plumber, get Aridia
Get new ship
Visit Aridia, Save Skid
Visit Metropolis, Copter first, then Swingshot

My problem so far is that in all my practise runs, I don't have enough bolts for the swingshot, so I need to keep going back to optimize bolt collection routes.  And I'm trying to keep things entertaining... in all the speed runs I enjoy watching, all the incidentals are gotten along the way quite easily.  Going out of my way to kill things and collect bolts just seems... wrong to me.  So I keep going back to look for better ways to get massive amounts of bolts.

Right now I'm trying for about 500 on Veldin, 1000 on... uh... whatever the 2nd planet is called, and another thousand on Aridia giving me all the bolts I need for this section.  Of course, then I'll need more bolts for upcomming sections... meaning more killing things I'd rather just skip, but dangit.  I need bolts.

If you guys have any suggestions for good bolt caches and such, I'm all ears.
Rock on, Earthbound. Rock on.
There's a glitch for infinite bolt collection on the first Hoverboard race.  I don't recall HOW you do it, but I know it's on gamefaqs...  basically, you wind up off of your board, and walking around on the track on foot, and then you can go to the floating platform with the huge amount of boxes on it...  Apparently, the programmers were lazy and made it so that the instant the boxes are off the screen, they respawn, instead of forcing you to complete a lap.  So you can sit there, throwing your boomerang wrench off the screen at a load of boxes, and each and every time, you'll break open a mess of boxes.  I don't remember the figures for bolt collection speed, but it allowed me to afford the RYNO in only a few hours.  It's a definite glitch, so you may want to verify it with Radix before you go to town on the run, but that's probably the single best way to accumulate bolts in the game.
give me your eyes!!!
I seriously considered speed-running r&c3, but till I work out how to record i'm stuck.

I welcome any attempts to make one, and i'll try to make my own in the near future.

I'm concerned about pure speed or 100%, clearly it cannot spill over onto a second game but then it won't be perfect.
Some aspects such as Desert crystals, Ice gems or Sewer crystals will be far too boring.
Any ideas?...

are you still working on it Fieari?

I have all the ratchet and clank games and I think they are excellent. I have beat going commando 10 times using different as you could say "personal handicaps" i even have beat it with just using the lancer and its upgrades, the gravity bomb and its upgrades and the wrench and its upgrades. A good playtime through the game usually comes down to being 7-9 hours(double that if you get all platinum bolts and the other crap).

First post!
Anyway, wouldn't a special weapons run be better to do, seeing as you don't have to spend time racking up a bolt collection first? It happens in games like Resident Evil (rocket launcher speed run, RE4 special weapons run, etc) so it'd be allowed here I'd assume. *cough*RYNOII*cough*

Also, I think R&C1 would be boring to do, I bought it and got bored half way through (and I don't usually do that), but maybe it's because I had 2 + 3 before 1. :p
