Hey, thought I'd ressurrect this to look at progress reports since I'm really looking forward to them!

My R&C3 run is all planned out, since the tv was broken I hauled the heaviest tv in the world upstairs (been told off for that, next time i'm taking the computer downstairs Wink

) but so far unable to record due to time restraints and insane difficulty.
However, I will perservere and succeed!

If anyone has seriously been trying I'd like to know when abouts they'll be done and I can offer advice as I'm now well into speeding this game.

I'll record as much as possible over the weekend and it shouldn't take more than a few weeks!

Progress report:

Completed the first segment:
-all bolts
-all trophies
-I think all skill points (there was some dodgyness)
-not bought any weapons
-first two arcade games 100%

up until Tyrannosis in 47:xx by the games timer.

So far it's looking brilliant with some incredibly close calls but no deaths. A very action packed run.

I might not be able to record until next weekend, since I can't move my computer across the house if my parents are in Tongue

I have no idea how long it'll be, maybe sub 3:30...

PROGRESS REPORT

ok i didnt actually record anything yet but after much practicing the first segment (first two worlds, i cut it down) comes up to by the game timer 5:xx i might be able to get it into 4. This being said im debating to make the first segment the first 3 worlds instead.

Try and make them as long as possible.

I did the first level, a loong level, went to the ship twice, did another loong level including dropship battles, did some Annihalation Nation stuff, did another loong level and two Quark vidgames.

The only reason I can give is this reduces the number of 'ship flying through space' cutscenes (but I don't think those count towards the game's timer).

Anyway it's cool!! Grin

Besides it should be easier for you, you don't have to consistently use the pesky jetpack of screwupidyness.

I'm just sayin.... look forward to it whatever!

Just done my second segment, kinda eating my words as it's only 26mins. I got to Daxx, got speed boots and unanimously decided with my oh so small pile of weaponry to avoid suicide and save it there.

You'll love the boss fight on Tyrannosis btw Grin

Ok, I'm now joining the R&C1 discussion. I plan on running this game. I'm gonna go start right now and look for some strategies/shortcuts. Smiley

I'll definitely be watching these runs when they come out. Any chance of either one being done before mid-October (when the fourth R&C game, Deadlocked, comes out - October 25th is its exact release date according to Yahoo Games)? That'd be more awesome, but I can kinda understand if it's not possible.

All my following notes are for the third game.

I was always annoyed by those 'ship through space' scenes, because if my memory serves me right those are among the only unskippable cutscenes in the game.

If I remember the Tyrranosis (forgot how it's spelled) boss correctly, I recall getting a weapon upgrade just by finishing off the boss (I was using the Flux Rifle at the time, and it was V1, so.... yeah). Are we going to be seeing any V5 weapons, out of curiosity?

My own couple of notes, although I'm well aware you probably have your strategy plotted out well:

-Some of the weapons I could see getting significant use in a speedrun without specific application are: the Shock Blaster (fast fire rate for when you get it; might only be a short-term weapon though), the Flux Rifle (sheer power), and the Plasma Whip (for when those enemies just swarm; if you're just going between spots, whip once and go).
-A couple of weapon pointers I discovered: You fire faster with the N60 Storm if you repeatedly hit the shoot button rather than hold it down. Also, that Nitro Launcher (if you dare use such a slow weapon) only fires farther if you jump (I don't get it either). And the Spitting Hydra seems to increase exponentially in power if your lock-on targets are lined up. I can't advise much on other weapons because I haven't tried all of them yet, but I dare say stay away from using the Infector.

yay its not just cannibal and me now. Why dont we just talk about tricks on this thread. holy moly do whatever you want but if a run from the start would be possible DO IT. Unless infinate i already doing it. I dont kno but i think the categories are segmented or single segmented of the following

speed run from the start
100% speed run from the start (gettting all gold bolts and skill points)
challenge mode run
challenge mode 100% run (thats what im doing)

i gotta go to school now though so ill update my progress later.

Ok, great...segmented runs are crap...ill do single segmented runs. The run wont be longer than 3 hours in challenge mode.

Since I'm going through this so fast segmented is necessary as I want no deaths - it won't be crap I promise! (I start shaking if I try to keep it as good as I can for too long, maybe a SS pure speed in the future Wink

I debated with myself about the weapons but when it came to recording there was no hope of throwing away money like that. Firstly I had to save up for armour, and I've decided the only weapons I'm going to get are ones that are needed for skill points, and it's going to be tight!

As for the ones I'm using, so far the shock blaster and nitro launcher are used since they're the only ones I have, and since I rarely stop there is no speed lost with this tactic. I needed to buy a flux rifle to take out the helicopter on Daxx (no ammo drops).

I have completed the game 100% and I can tell you that the plasma whip would be a horrific idea, but thanks for the input! Cheesy

There will definitely be v5 weapons since they are used exclusively and it is in the interest of speed and survival to level them up when possible.

Just had another go at second segment, died both times in very stupid ways (cross-cross-cross fire...) but I have decided to complete Daxx in the same segment after much practice.

2nd segment:
-Tyrranosis (including Kavado (sp?) Island
-Swingshot training twice (speed skill point)
-Daxx for charge boots, then both routes
-obani gemini and the other mini-planet in the gemini system
-possibly AN if I feel lucky enough i.e. no

Edit: meh, I had a look back through my first segment and I was a bit green then, so I'll probably re-do it.
I have just come back from the 4th battle on Tyrannosis feeling dejected and depressed since I twice went through too quickly so the enemies didn't load and I couldn't kill them to complete it. Found some better strategies in places though so it's at least going to be of higher quality for the finished product!

Someone mentioned the 4th game. Yay! I should be done way before then.

It is going to be a high% run. I feel that speeding through requires a lot of skill, but the peak of skill can be shown by someone who also gets the bolts, skill points and trophies.

Therefore I'm getting all the ones that are fairly quick, and ignoring ones such as 'all sewer crystals', 'all weapons', 'all health', 'all AN gauntlets' and anything that requires a second game.

Edit: Whilst I'm here and considering starting over, do any of you think my idea is sensible or would you rather see a pure speed run?

Progress:

Okay so i did a run of the first segment which consists of:
Veldin
Novalis two gold bolts and one skill point
Metropolis three gold bolts and three skill points

I taped it after several tries and timed it at 15:36.
Do the cutscenes count towards time. I skipped them with rapid start pressing but they still take up time.

I had a few mistakes so i thought i could do better. I erased it last night to start over the segment. Now i cant do it! but all in all im glad i erased it cause i found a few more tricks and i know i can do it faster.

I probably will finish the seg today. Keep ya updated Wink

I do that loads of times: record something I'm happy with, play it back, wince a few times, erase it, then I can't even get close for a few hours.

I did some testing and I'm almost certain that all cutscenes and menu searching (even buying weapons) don't affect the in game timer.

Btw, I've decided to lengthen my first segment, effectively molding what may have been my first two segments together. I'll see how that pans out when I go for it over the weekend.

ALRIGHT!

i finihed the first seg. I tried it like 80 times last night and beat it with barely any mistakes. Instead of 15:36 i got 14:35 or so b4 getting in to the ship after metropolis but this time i flew to aridia so that i could start the next segment already at aridia instead of at metropolis. The ending time with cutscenes, and ship flying scenes, 15:22.50

Im so relieved cause i had tried it so many times and said to myself ok this is the last time im trying it tonight. Bam you got the first segment.

As for me...

Wasn't allowed a high% run so I'm doing any% pure-speed, and after playing through in one go (almost) I've decided it's long enough as it is. This game is so much longer than I originally believed.

I have developed numerous strategies, and I reckon I can do it in 2 segments. Sure they'll be mistakes, but I am dead set on having no deaths (hehe a pun).

The 2nd segment will be the final boss, as my low health and small number of weapons means it can take about 30 tries for me to defeat him.

The only level that is proving especially difficult is Koros, the level before the boss, and I can have just under half my health knocked off with a single shot. Since it's so late in the run it'll be a very worrying part, but by then I'm sure I'll be used to near-death Tongue

I'll start recording whenever I have a free 4 hours! Wink

Ok, that whole 2 segment thing, not gonna happen.

Just finished my new first segment all the way to Daxx in 1h 5m, with one death (the most ridiculous moment ever, a guarantee :P).

Looking very nice, should have the rest done this weekend or next week at the latest.

How's R&C1 comin' along?

If your wondering what happened too me the news is I've decided to cancel the speedrun. I was ready to start taping it months ago but I had VCR issues and got my PC fixed (what I was waiting for the whole summer) and lost interest. I'm too busy. I've got school, work, and lots of work at a site I work for. Life is just too busy for me. Anyways good luck to all the people working on this game. Hope you make it a good one Wink

I just recorded a perfect 2nd segment...

...apart from the fact that I died right at the end...

I've gone straight through pissed off and I'm in a weird calm state where I feel happy even though I have no reason to be.
I shall rectify that annomaly post-haste!

The 2nd segement is from Daxx to just after the Courtney Gears boss fight, on Zeldrich Starport in approximatley 35mins.
